Come home to St Louis, PH, DH in interleague, get a start at first every 10 days or so and call it a career. That’s the only way it should end.
That’s what I’d like to see. Someone on FB mentioned that. There was a reply saying he can’t because he signed a lifetime personal services contract with the Angels. I didn’t research it so it may or may not be true. Sucks if it is.
I get the sentimental attachment, but he isn't a good hitter anymore. He also has no flexibility defensively. I think this would be dumb.
Maybe he can sign a one day contract and retire as Cardinal. No clue if that would affect the personal services clause with the angels PBRME mentioned, but that sounds like something a Robert Kraft owned team would offer.

But I agree the guys making the decisions probably won’t be emotional about it and will definitely realize it’s not a good move.
When he was released the first time at the age of 29 he went back to high school under a new name and started an incredible journey that has led to this day 24 years later.

St. Louis is not going to happen. A guy his age is probably looking really hard at Tampa and Arizona to maintain a mature, but active lifestyle amongst others his age.
He has that contract but it’s not one that begins immediately. After retirement he will be expected to do Angels spring trainings, make appearances with the team for 10 years. It’s a thing but it has no effect on the rest of his playing career.
I think the more likely thing to happen is he signs with KC, Tampa, CWS and plays the rest of this year and part of next year. That’ll let him approach 700 which he wants, and if the team isn’t in contention trading him to the cards for a box of balls and a Musial autograph at the deadline in 2022 and he plays September when rosters would have expanded and then hang em up. He grew up in KC and they could use the attention so I think that’s the best marriage. And his wife is from StL so MO makes sense.

His contract was one I’ve never seen before. He basically signed a 20 year contract with the Angels. 10 to play, then retire when he wants, then he will have 10 years of being at the Angels service. Work spring training, help with minor league camps, cut ribbons at fields for inner cities kids, visit hospitals with Trout, speak at events, etc. There are lots of former players that do that sort of thing, but never heard of one doing it by contract at least 10 years before his career ends. St Louis is lucky they didn’t sign him for 10 years, that contract was an albatross around the neck. I just want him to end in StL for sentimental reasons, even if it’s only a month. He was never my favorite player but I watched probably 95% of the 450+ homers he hit as a Cardinal. I caught and played CF so I have always been an Edmonds and Yadi guy.

He made more than twice as much in his career as an Angel than he did as a Cardinal. I suspect he would be just fine going into Cooperstown in an Angels uniform.
He won 3 MVP’s in StL and woulda won 5-6 of not for Bonds roid rage. Won 2 World Series, went to another. He was worshipped in St Louis and the Angel fans won’t even know he’s gone. Who gives a piss who paid what money. The HOF is about posterity, do you think future visitors to Cooperstown will want to know about the decade in St Louis where he was the modern day Lou Gehrig, or his decade in Anaheim when he was probably the most overpaid player in baseball, based on production anyway?

Yes and no. He made a **** ton of money in Anaheim but that’s about it. He got paid a ton of money to play on Mike Trouts team.

I honestly don’t think Albert Pujols gives a **** abt who paid him.

Pujols had almost 2000 more ABs, had almost 1000 more hits, and double the home runs and RBIs as a Cardinal. He will wear a Cardinal hat when he goes in. When most baseball fans picture Pujols in their minds, they picture him in a Cardinals uniform.
Right. Just what the Cardinals need. Another 0.200 hitter that can't field or run. Ain't gonna happen. If it does, this just cements how inept a player personnel guy Moronazeliak. He is by far the worst GM/VP in baseball.
