PSA: I assume it’s still fairly difficult to find in some places, I haven’t looked at any in the last 6-8mos. But if you are looking for ammo in the NE MS area Berry’s Trading Post in Corinth posted on FB that they had gotten a lot in today. Just thought some of you might be interested as there were several threads on ammo the last year or so.

Supply is starting to catch up with the demand here lately and I'm actually seeing a lot of 9mm rounds in stock at places like Academy in Starkville. Of course this was Thursday I saw that and it prolly is all gone now but they had a good bit that day.

Hunting rounds and reloading supplies are still almost impossible to find. I check about 10 different web sites first thing every morning and have managed to get a few supplies but still almost every site has nothing. I think most effort and materials are being put into hand gun and self defense rounds and almost nothing into hunting rounds. Hopefully that will change over the Summer as hunting season approaches.

can’t imagine a good reason to hoard something like the .416 Rigby. I have been a very casual reloader for a few years but decided awhile back that it was time to get serious about it. Needed to take control of my ability to have ammo. We have various Western hunts booked for the next 3 years and I don’t plan to worry about finding ammo to practice and hunt with ever again. The political drama surrounding the situation is just too risky. I certainly do not consider myself to be an expert reloader at all, but in my brief and limited experience I am already loading ammo that groups significantly better than factory ammo. With that being said, I would not start out loading for an African dangerous game hunt. Way too much risk I think. My original plan was to develop hand loads that duplicate my chosen factory ammo so that I could practice with hand loads and then go on the actual hunt with the factory ammo. I will still probably do that, at least for this year, but I would be very comfortable taking my hand loads on next years elk hunt IF I could not get the normal factory rounds that I use and have great Confidence in.

Lots of stuff in Africa that can eat you! I have not hunted Africa, but I have hunted in the West where Grizzlies visited out tents every single night. Let me assure you, that is quiet an adventure! You don’t want be be wondering if that 300 Winnie is going to go off if you really need it. Bear spray may or may not be enough of a deterrent.

Well you must be kin to ole Bear Bryant. Either that or just being around too many Gumps over there on the wrong side of the State Line. I truly hope that you, or anyone that loves the outdoors, gets a chance to make a trip deep into the NW Wyoming wilderness. As Ole Ted Nugent would say, it will cleanse the soul. The Grizzlies are everywhere and due to many years of being protected, they are no longer afraid of humans. If you shoot an elk, you can get ready. They hear rifle shots as a dinner bell. Things can get real tense, real quick. I love to make those trips and plan to continue to do so in the few years I have left being young enough to handle it. I is a hell of an experience for the avid outdoorsman.

The wilderness areas require all non residents to use a guide. You would not want to attempt it without a guide and horses anyway. The country is extremely rugged. While it continues to be argued at a National level, Grizzlies are still Federally protected so no hunting for them allowed. You can hunt black bears if you draw a license. Wyoming and most western states has a preference points system where you accumulate points toward drawing a license. Sounds complicated but it’s really not. I have spent time in Wyoming on hunts off and on since 1986. If I can be of service reach out to me and I will be glad to help you in any way that I can. It can truly be a life changing experience for those that love the outdoors.

I know a guy from Ripley that has been doing guided trips to Colorado for 20 years probably. I’ve seen some monster elk and mule deer. I’m sure they do the bear as well if drawn. They’ve had hunts on the outdoor channel. Don’t care to give you their info if you wanted to check out more than one option.

I have some 405 Win if you get desperate. It's not 416 Rigby but ole Teddy did pretty well with it.

I have some 45-70 as well. And a great gun for it. The ammo OP can have. But I will need a $20,000 refundable deposit for the gun. It was my dad's pride and joy. So I will have it back.
