No thanks. As a USM fan, there are several regionals we could possibly win. Starkville is not one of them. Would love to get sent to East Carolina, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, and maybe a couple others. Is Notre Dame really any good or are they that one northern team that comes around every year that the media pretends is elite?

Yeah, but you know they're going to put you in a "local" regional somewhere. I personally don't want any part of USM in our regional.

I don’t know if ND is a legit contender but they are deserving of a Top 8 seed. Haven’t lost a series all year against a league only schedule in the 3rd ranked RPI conference.

We all know that the NCAA likes to "weed" out Mississippi teams from their field as quickly as possible. They want California, Ohio, Florida, Texas teams with the best demographic!

“The Week of May 10th”. But I wouldn’t expect them on May 10th. They announced they would reveal the softball hosts on “the week of April 26th” and they haven’t been announced yet.

Seems as though I heard May 10. 16 host sites announced that day, seedings and 64 team field to be announced after conference tournaments. Sure wish there was more media confirmations about this. It has been about as clear as mud up to now.

No way we end up being a 2 seed. We will be a one seed in our home regional, and very likely to be a national top 8 seed, which guarantees a super regional host assuming we win the regional.

Notre Dame has mostly played an ACC schedule, so while they might be northern, they've whipped a lot of southern teams.

I would love for Vandy to end up with that pod - FSU, Fairfield, and Lehigh. They’d probably still come out of it, but that’d be a tough regional for the overall number 2 seed

I don't see any way OM gets a 1 seed, at this point. They played themselves out of that the last three weeks. They'll be s solid 2 somewhere.

Notre Dame has mostly played an ACC schedule, so while they might be northern, they've whipped a lot of southern teams.

They have "mostly played and ACC schedule" because they are literally in the ACC. And they are leading that conference. They have an elite club this year.

Kendall Rogers tweeted last night that the NCAA will now announce 20 host sites on May 10, to be weeded down to 16 on selection day. Supposedly gives more teams more time to play their way in (or out).

How often does USM get screwed on regional selections because they are slated into a "local" regional, where they have to face a stout SEC host? Or conversely, get to host, but get strong SEC 2 seed in their bracket?

Not sure how long the NCAA has emphasize locality, but seems like teams in the Southeast would get consistently screwed by that, especially non-sec teams.

Seems like USM is going to get slated into an LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, bracket generally, and conversely that if USM gets to host, unless all three of those are hostng, one of them is going to get slated into their bracket. Obviously depends on the year, but seems like typically your SEC teams outside the top few are going to be seeded worse than they probably deserve just to try to show balance between conferences.

That has literally only happened once, in 2017 when we were the 2 seed. And calling us "strong" that year would be a stretch. The only other time they've hosted, they were the No. 2 seed and Baylor was the No. 1 seed.

As far as where USM get's sent when they're a 2 or 3 seed, that's just par for the course. The committee isn't going to fly a 2 or 3 seed across the country just to try to make things more fair/even. Those non-No. 1 seeds are nearly always sent somewhere geographically nearby to cut down on costs.
