To all you young bucks out there, cherish your youth. You will soon be faced with life altering decisions that will keep you up at night, as adulthood and its rigors spares no one.

My wife and I got accidentally pregnant last summer. We welcomed healthy twins to our home of four in early April. Last December and this January, we traded in both of our cars to get some nice 3 row SUVs since we are now a family of 6.

Let me tell you... getting two kids in and out of the backseat of a 3 row SUV sucks donkey balls. And you barely even have room to put a stroller in the car when all 6 of us are in there.

We have, regrettably, opted to trade one of our lovely, cool, chic SUVs in for a minivan, as we don’t see how we can continue to do this when all 6 of us need to go somewhere.

But the minivan isnt even the tough decision here. About 8-10 years ago the great state of Texas introduced the Mississippi State license plate. And being the savvy computer user I am, I logged I that first morning and secured the HAILST license plate. HAILST nudged out 17BURY by a nose in license plate selection.

Here’s where this gets tough - I can’t put the HAILST on the minivan, right? That’s a bridge too far, isn’t it? I’m going to have figure out how to get HAILST on the SUV we are keeping, which it currently is not.

Anywho, have your self spayed or neutered before accidents happened. Otherwise, you end up with minivans and license plate decisions that are too tough to make.

The panic in her voice when she said “I think we have a problem” and then a month later the panic in her voice when she said “there’s 17ing two of them in there” were not very fun days at our house in the year of COVID.

Also, minivans are awesome. Basically the most practical vehicles for families. And, my kids go to school with some kids who have the Tesla SUV with doors that open up, and those kids think our Odyssey is cool because our doors slide back. Also, Dodge is putting a hellcat motor in one. Pretty much all the hip parents are rocking a minivan these days. Can you dig it?

Totally. Someone (her) had to come off of some important medicines for a month and mistimed that famous window of opportunity. Someone else (me) always performs to their fullest extent #NoDaysOff

The intersection of those two events directly resulted in a soon to be minivan.

That’s not bad at all, I know several people who have a kid when their others are in high school.
You better go back for the check to make sure the dr did in fact know what he was doing. That also gets people in trouble.

Specimen is due midJune for a test. Told the wife it’s her job to collect it.

The first 6 months of twins are the most difficult. I barely remember any of that time. But it does get easier, especially after potty training. In fact, a bit easier.

As a father of an only child, and now empty nester, I would advise you to relish each and everyday with the young ones. We were always going to have more, and just never did, how I wish I still had a pickup game of anything in my yard. I consider you a blessed man.

Not sure what planet your twins dropped from, but mine are mid-20's. I'll let you know when it gets easy...

I don't see how a minivan is going to solve your problem. A minivan is certainly fine and extremely practical. But it's not going to be any easier for you to get them in and out of the third seat than it would be in say an Expedition. I would go with an expedition with a bench seat. You can get two well chosen carseats installed in the "double" portion of the bench, and then the single portion folds down easily enough for the older kids to climb in the back. If you can trust the older kid to check your 4 year old's seat belt, you can send them into the back and then start buckling in the babies. For road trips, if you need extra luggage space, you can put the six year old in the back and fold down part of the back seat, although that's not the safest if you have a wreck because all the stuff will be flying everywhere.

Another option instead of the minivan if you don't want the minivan is the Honda Pilot. It's just a minivan with doors that don't slide. If you get the right model, it sits seven, and as far as we can tell provides the most trunk cargo space with the back seats up. Certainly enough for a single stroller, but you'd need to check you particular double stroller to see if it will fit.

I've got twins, almost 17 years ago. One will be Valedictorian and the other Salutatorian. Try dealing with that. Not that I'm complaining, but there have been some battles.

This thread got me to thinking. I just had a 25th Anniversary of getting snipped, my how time flies.

I never did get tested but after 25 years of driving w/ the top on the convertible open, it hasn't rained yet so I guess I'm safe

Kia just redid the carnival and basically bolted an “suv” front on it. Would probably be the route I’d take if forced into a minivan

There just ain’t enough room in a 3 row SUV for us. Climbing over that middle row and not having pace to put a lid of groceries anywhere without taking out a car seat or two has been miserable. It might work in something as big as an expedition or Tahoe, but we are just going to take the easy route and get the sliding doors and the space that a minivan has to offer. We won’t have assigned cars like we used to (hers and mine). We will ha w a car that hauls the twins (minivan) and a car that hails the other two (SUV). And when we need to haul 6 we’ve got the minivan.

The Kia Carnival is basically just the new model of the old Sedona minivan but has a more SUV look to it than the traditional minivans. They call it an "MPV" multi purpose vehicle, but for all intents and purposes it is still a minivan. It still has the sliding doors. If you go for the top end model, the 2nd row seats are full recliners.

It's easier to get stuff into a minivan than an Expedition.

Then there is the cost difference.

The top of the line loaded with everything Minivan is $51,765
The base cloth seats expedition with no options is $49,995 for the short one and $54,810 for the long one.
