Yep. I'm not positive what the correct answer is to replace him, but we've seen this is the wrong one.
B-b-b-b-but if we give him 25 more games he will hit sub .200 and give us 1 hr and 9 rbi
Haha exactly not only can he not hit !! He has a hard time catching a ball that's thrown right into his huge mitt!!
Am assuming they’ll start the lefty Nikhazy tomorrow. And we’ll have a bit less pressure on us having won the first game. Perfect time to insert Cumbest somewhere.
Hancock at 1B, Cumbest at DH seems like a very logical move for tomorrow.
Correct. There are going to be guys in your lineup that aren’t hitting. I know MSU fans want all of the pitchers to toss shutouts, all of the hitters to hit .400 with power, and every ball to be fielded cleanly. Baseball doesn’t work that way.
Yes but a team will never win a natty with a 1B in the 6 hole that can’t hit .200. It just ain’t happening.
I agree that hitters get hot and cold. Baseball is like that in many ways.
Would you continue to play Hatcher? Would you just leave him in there so long as we're winning?
Me? I definitely wouldn't start him today batting against Nikhazy.
Like others have mentioned, I'd put Tanner Allen at first base and Brad Cumbest at right field.
I'd tell Hatcher that he won't be starting the game today, but to be ready to pinch hit if needed. I'd also mention that he has to start producing with the bat if he wants to continue playing.
Depending upon how today's game goes with Allen at first and Cumbest at right - and, who the Bears throw in tomorrow's game - I'd decide whether Hatcher plays first base tomorrow.
Lemon is must know something that we aren’t seeing. Hatcher may be hitting great in practice or something. Player react to being benched different ways, some take it as constructive criticism and some it crushes their soul. I think we should have tried a different combination in a few midweek games and not wait til the Saturday game of SBW.
Do you sit Skinner or Hatcher or Dubrule against the lefty today. Skinner has been cold as ice too. Dubrule at least plays solid D. Someone mentioned Hancock at first. Then you could put Cumbest in left and Leggett at DH? I dunno. Hatcher has to sit.
Is Kyte Mcdonald ready for the big time? It would be nice to have Landon Jordan right about now. I imagine Lemonis is looking around and saying the best option is for Hatcher to find himself and become the +.300 hitter he was in 2019 & 2020.
I'm guessing the reason that hasn't happened yet is because Allen's draft prospects have him in outfield not 1b. Why can't Cumbest move to 1b? He's a big guy with good receiving skills.
I agree. Coach knows a lot more than we do.
To me, it looks like Hatcher has zero confidence at the plate.
Coach would be doing him a favor by taking him out and letting him chill in the dugout for a game or two.
If I were hitting below .200 after 33 games, then I'd go to the coach and tell him to take me out . . . I need a break.
Skinner barreled two balls last night against Hoglund; they just happened to be right at outfielders. So he at least seems to be seeing the ball ok.
Then why bother? We have fans on radio shows every day calling MSU elite and one of the best programs of all time. It is just not that way UNTIL we get a natty.
Yes we have an elite atmosphere, and elite fan support, but the program is missing a title. There are too many programs in the SEC with that title in their trophy case to say that we are above them. So in a way, yes, it is national title or bust
I don’t disagree, but if the coach is putting a player’s feelings above the well being of the team, he’s doing a huge disservice to the team. It’s his job to make the tough decisions, and it’s nothing short of baffling when you realize that Tanner, Allen, and a couple others have been given days off over the last two weeks while Hatcher continues to play every night.
Not to mention that Lemonis has gone as far as to park Cerantola and chew out Macleod for not playing well, but it’s no comment week after week on Hatcher. It’s just mind boggling, and the defensive switch argument from some is pitifully weak too. We don’t know how Allen, Cumbest, etc would perform at 1st, ok. But we know with 117% certainty that Hatch is an auto-out in the lineup, so how in the holy hell can you not attempt something different? How many errors would it take to warrant keeping a .150 SEC batting average who nearly leads the team in strikeouts?
This is baseball equivalent of having the worst kicker in the conference. Maybe talent throughout the rest of the roster is hiding it for now, but at some point, a crucial game is going to come down a kick, and we’ve got a major deficiency there
