Montgomery, Al is putting together a package to try and get it moved here when the current deal with Hoover is up.

River Walk is an awesome venue and the Sun Belt is doing their tournament there this year. There is a parking garage right next to the stadium as well as additional parking not too far past right field.

I'd also mention Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. It's not as big as Hoover but there isn't a bad seat in the house. Plus there is more to do in Mobile than in Birmingham.

Moving it to Memphis would benefit Ole Miss and Arkansas fans only. Maybe Tennessee fans if that program can get stronger. Hoover is better for most of State's fan base.

Bottom line is, as outdated as the Hoover park is, it averaged over 9,500 attendance at the last SEC tournament. The Memphis stadium capacity is only 10,000. It's going to be real hard to move the tournament anywhere else right now.

If the SEC is going to keep 12 teams and this format that you need a rocket surgery degree to understand.. Here's what should happen.

Work out a deal and move it to Truist.

We play football in Mercedes... Basketball in Bridgestone.. but we've left the baseball tournament out in the woods of south Birmingham to languish in a stadium we keep sprucing up by printing new vinyl wraps to slap on the outfield fence. The polish has worn off that turd.

Tell whoever is listening that this is the most important college baseball tournament in the world and we're going to play it in the best facility possible for the players and fans. If you're a prospect considering an ACC or Big12 school.. serve notice that this is where you want to play.

Sell 10K tickets in premium areas and practically give away another 10K if you want to. Close off the upper deck... But if you can get 17K to an opening weekend tournament in Arlington, TX.. I think we'd be shocked to see the turnout for an SECT.

Being tournament champions is either important or it's not. If it is.. then it's time to play somewhere important.

They can put more than 10,000 in there and have many times. There's lots of berm seating and SRO space.

the SEC basketball tournament was very popular when it was in Memphis back in the 90s....and downtown Memphis has come a long way since then.

In that case, it may make sense to move it to Memphis, at least occasionally. It's just an uphill battle to get it moved since Hoover has proved it will always draw great crowds and the last time they moved it away from there it was an attendance disaster.

They could even keep it in Birmingham and just go to Regions Park instead. That would provide a lot more modern game experience and also provide many more adjacent entertainment opportunities than what exist at the Met.
