I'll go over. OM has given up some runs in a few Sunday games this year. I could see that game pushing us over 17.5.

Over. As it happens every year, our bats start cold then catch fire about three weeks into conference play. OM’s top four or so arms are a lot better than Auburn’s, but they don’t have much behind that.

This is accurate. If y’all can work counts and get into our bullpen, we are in trouble. We are also below average defensively because we’ve had to shuffle people around so much. And with Bench out now, we’ll probably have to start McCants at 3rd where he’s played one career game, and that was Tuesday night against Austin Peay where the only ball hit to him he made an error. We are limping into Starkville pretty badly right now. If Hoglund or Nikhazy either one has a shaky start, we are in trouble.

You seem to be setting up the Woe Is Us mantra to perfection. Now, if The Bearsharks come out of Starkville with a series win, you can say “we beat y’all with less than our best”, and if the Johnnie Come Marching Homers happen to lose the series, well it was expected, because they were decimated by injury, beaten down again at the Battle of Shiloh.

I’ve already joked about this in another thread saying that’s exactly what I’m doing.

It’s not what I’m actually doing. At least not intentionally. I’m just legitimately concerned about the injuries piling up on us. Especially given our recent track record against you guys, I don’t like having additional disadvantages. Injuries and missing players are a part of it, as y’all all acknowledged very much leading up to the Egg Bowl. But you’ve got to play with who you have. And I’m concerned with who we won’t have. Y’all are already one of the 3-4 best teams in the country, so of course I’m concerned about it.

But, I’m not setting up anything. If we lose, I’ll tip my hat, and I won’t claim it’s because of injuries. At least not here, lol. And if we win, I’ll be proud of the team the same I would if we were healthy. I guess subconsciously I just need y’all to know about the injuries because my ego is fragile, so you aren’t wrong. But also, it’s a sports board and a huge series, and I follow Ole Miss much closer than most of you, so I figure most of you don’t realize the injury issues. Knowing that might influence your predictions in this incredibly important thread.

Why isn't McCants higher in the order? I would have him leading off if Bench can't go. I would have McCants ahead of Chatagnier and Gonzalez either way.

Good question, I'm not sure? My guess is that Bianco is leaving him down there in order to try and keep him in his comfort zone, since he's swinging it so well lately and is a true freshman. He's hitting .346 with an OPS of .938, and although I haven't verified this, I bet those numbers are even better in SEC play. So, he's certainly made a case to be hitting higher in the order. It looks like Bench is going to try and give it a go, but I bet if he had not been able to you'd have seen McCants higher in the order. I don't know that I'd have him ahead of Chatagnier or Gonzalez. I can definitely understand the rationale, but both of those dudes are pretty good in their own right.

Bianco also loves to try and stagger left and right handed bats, to try and prevent matchup advantages out of the pen. Sometimes I think he does it to a fault. And with 4 of our 5 or 6 best bats (with Elko out) being left handed in Graham, Gonzalez, Dunhurst and McCants, he's just about going to have to hit one of them in the 7, 8 or 9 hole, and since McCants was the last one to crack the every day lineup I guess it's been him by default.
