OT: TV Historical Dramas Suggestions

I'm late to the discussions on all these shows and I'm pretty sure I saw threads on them. I started with Barbarians, then Knightfall, Medici, and I'm now on season 2 of The Borgias. There's clearly a trend developing here.

What are some that I should try next?

Agree, its pretty dang good. The only reason I can watch it though is because of the Danes. If its a series about just English history I can' do it. Those English MFer's are as bad as fans of The University of Northern MS as far as thinking they're above and superior to everybody else.

Alfred's wife is a great character though. Reminds me of Ramsey Bolton or Tywin Lannister. She's the person you love to hate.

That's quite the list. And how many different streaming services would I need to search to find them all? I know we have more than I, myself, typically use.

They made Alfred into a crazy bastard. I enjoyed the entire series..

I can't wait until the next season of Barbarians. I really enjoy Roman History. I prefer Republican or Marian Roman history but late Roman empire is ok. The Romans had become candy asses by then. Really good movie.

I have watched the 1st season Outlander. I was intrigued at the beginning but about half way through the first season I starting getting a strong I'm watching a Harlequin Romance Novel vibe

Book is infinitely better, but the mini-series is good in it's own right, kind of like Game of Thrones

As others have mentioned, 1) The Last Kingdom is fantastic.
2) The Great (Hulu) was one of our favorite shows in the past few years. It is "an occasionally true story" but hilarious too
3) Peaky Blinders
4) The Serpent

Taboo is damn good. Weird as hell but good. There is supposed to be a second season but there was going to be a gap b/c of Tom Hardy’s schedule if I remember correctly. I think it was originally only going to be one season but it was so popular they decided to do more.

I finished it last week and you are right. It is very good. Lots of pirate history I had never heard.

I finished Hemingway a few minutes ago. It was fantastic. I still remember the first time I read “The Old Man and the Sea” over 25 years ago.

John Adams is good if you have HBO Max. Paul Giamatti does an excellent job.

Into the Storm is an hbo movie about churchill reflecting on the ww2 years which is EXCELLENT.

Band of Brothers and John Adams are great.

HBO also did a couple solid docs. One was on HW bush called "41." They also did one on the dropping of the bombs on hiroshima and nagasaki which title escapes me. It's got plenty of first hand accounts from survivors that are straight nightmares.

You do have to put up with a few really bad timeline issues. We are talking years different from it and reality. It is done very well though.

Bolivar on Netflix is the best I’ve seen, even with subtitles.
