......and as he lay on the ground, exhausted, a cat came by and tried to bury him.

Arceto Clark, I believe. Sat on the sidelines for the first seven weeks. Mullen redshirted him the next year 2009.

You know you're REALLY True Maroon if you kept your season tickets throughout the Croom Error.

ETA: That's probably a good idea for a thread of its own: You know you're REALLY True Maroon if....

My dad had season tickets in 2005. After winning 3 games that year, the ticket office decided to add a $300/seat fee for ‘06. My dad called to ask if they were serious and said people should be paid to sit through that garbage.

Student tickets baby! I paid a lot of money to watch that mess.

Because I'm a True Believer, I will begrudgingly admit that I allowed myself to get excited for just a bit after Croom's introductory news conference. It was pretty good. Unfortunately the wool was sheared quickly and never came back. Not even when our band spelled out "Croom" at the 07 Liberty Bowl.

We all knew after Maine. We allowed ourselves to believe after Florida, but then 2 years passed before we beat Bama. We all still knew but we were all so starved and we knew Templetoes would not do anything anyway so we were just resigned to sheer hope, which was why 2007 was so great. Then along came Doc, then Byrne, and after that I knew it was in our best interest to lose, especially after that turd of a season opener in 2008.

I think the Biblical word is "deceived". We were deceived in 2007, thus the hope for losing (what many of us said we'd never do) was NECESSARY.

I went to Croom’s introductory press conference and left there excited about the future of MSU football. Struggled through until we “whipped” UCF in Memphis. Thought maybe we had turned the corner. Made the mistake of going to Ruston. That is a loooooong ride back to Starkville.

Beating Alabama twice didn't really register for me too much. I mean, I was ecstatic that we beat them - we haven't done that much in our history. But the reality is that Alabama sucked those years. We were really good defensively, too.

We did, long few years but the low demand at the time allowed us to get good seats and keep them for the Mullen era which was significantly more fun.

Whatever happened to Anthony Johnson? It’s hard to think of a single bigger better play than that pick 6. Whatever happened to him? If I remember correctly he was a freshman or sophomore that season, and looked to be a star in the making and don’t remember much of him after that season. Did he finish at State?

I didn't think it was the play calling was that bad but rather the poor execution.

We could not complete a pass against air and we were attempting to run the West Coast offense. Even when we completed a pass to a RB back, he had to stop to catch it and at times reach backward too. This allowed the defense to recover whatever advantage the offensive scheme created.

That was all well and good... for a little while, but it never ever got better. In fact, worse. That staff did not know how to teach College players how to play. They may could have called plays for a seasoned NFL team but they had no clue how to teach it to college players.

I sat through the 3-2 game. I was so excited when be got that late turnover and all we needed was ten yards to get a field goal try. Dude next to me whom I had sat beside for three years at games just said, "I don't why you are excited, it won't matter." We went backwards and ended up back on the wrong side of the 50 punting. I was done.

He was part of the Gun 6 or whatever. Think he went to Jackson State for a time.

I started buying season tickets when Felker was head coach and kept my tickets current through the Croom error. I figure of I can survive that I can handle just about anything, MSU sports wise that is.

2007 in hindsight doesn’t look nearly as good, but at the time it was such a breath of fresh air. And to be fair, yes we did it the ugly way but we did beat some legitimately good teams that year. The Auburn and Kentucky teams we beat on the road that year were stout. And to date that’s the only time we’ve ever beaten Nick Saban. Not to mention the Egg Bowl had one of the more famous endings in the history of the game.

The other four years were awful but I’ll always appreciate how nice 2007 felt in the middle of an abysmal decade for our program.
