I think Carolina got the better end of this deal:

Jets have the 2nd pick in the draft. They are going Qb. Darnold won't be better than who they draft so why do you think the Panthers got the better deal here? Darnold is alright but he ain't no game changer at the position. Much rather role the dice on Fields or Wilson than keep rolling out Darnold and without getting those extra picks they just got.

I think you're right. I'm a little shocked the Jets were able to get a second round pick for him (next year but still).

I think Darnold is pretty good. Him having to deal with Gase, the worst OL and one of the work skill position units in the NFL is too much for anyone to overcome, especially for a young QB. Don’t forget, he’s only 23 years old.

I think he’ll do well with Joe Brady, McCaffrey, etc. Maybe very well.

Plus, they can flip Bridgewater now for some draft capital or a defensive player. They need some help on that side of the ball.

I don't think that's the right way to judge the trade. The question is just whether they'd get a better player with one of the three draft picks they got. Possibly (probably?), but I think I'd rather keep Darnold and try to flip the No.2 pick to a team in exchange for multiple picks.

That's fair. I think the Jets hand is forced here though if they pass on a generational Qb to keep Darnold. Always a gamble in the draft.

Darnold gets a mulligan. Because Jets and Gase. And best not step out on limbs about how good the 2nd QB taken in a draft is going to be... Here is the list of the 2nd QB taken since 2010.

2010-Tim Tebow
2011-Jake Locker
2012-RGIII
2013-Geno Smith
2014-Johnny Manziel
2015-Marcus Mariota
2016-Carson Wentz
2017-Patrick Mahomes
2018-Sam Darnold
2019-Daniel Jones
2020-Tua Tagovailoa

Darnold is actually on the higher side of that list at this point even though he's been in that dumpster fire. If you take Mahomes out, those are some terrible picks. Odds are the 2nd QB taken is going to flame out and the 3rd, 4th, or 5th will become a pro bowler.

Darnold would have been better this year than any body they can get in the draft but...They should know him better than any of us and if they don't want him, then they got a good bit for a guy they don't want.

By using the 2nd pick on a QB, they still have four more picks in the first three rounds and can get two lineman, a DB and RB or WR all in the first three rounds with five more picks to go.

That is a lot of impact players that are possible this year plus they have extra picks next year.

If I were a Jets fan, there is room for optimism.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see darnold play much better in Carolina now that he’s not playing for Gase. Similar to Tannehill

I am a Jets fan from birth. I think this was a no brainer and a good trade for the Jets. I agree that Darnold did not get a fair chance with the Jets and he might do good in Carolina, but to get a rookie contract at QB with someone who has as much upside, is the way to go. Darnold in not worth a second contract at this point for the Jets.

Hopefully they pick some O-line for the new guy and actually keep a receiver that is a weapon (Robby Anderson) instead of keeping the slow ones. I guess Sam gets to throw to Robby again.

Similar to every offensive player that’s ever been under Gase, who is maybe the worst head coach in NFL history....especially for offensive players.

I agree here. And I think Darnold will make Carolina better and vice versa.

He needed to get that NY Jets stench off of him.

You a Jets fan and a State fan.. Wow!

Anyhoo... Jets do have several draft picks this year already and now several more next year. I am with you that QB on a rookie contract that has great potential is better than an average one getting his 2nd contract. Jets didn't mess this trade up. It can still blow up in their faces but whoever the coach will have players. They have enough 1-3 round picks the next couple years to revamp that roster a great deal.

Jets have a new coaching staff. This team will be brand new, with lots of new influx of talent to the tune of 21 picks in the next two drafts. Plus, a couple free agents.

This team will go how well Joe Douglas and company evaluate talent and the new staff gets them ready.

The Jets future is not limited based on how it's positioned to acquire players. They should be in as good shape as anyone.

That's about all you can ask at this point after blowing the Trevor Lawrence pick.

Darnold has some issues with footwork and decision making. We are now going to find out if that was a poor job by the Jets or if Darnold just isn't adapting. If he fails I dont think it will be because he wasn't given skill players to work with. Still if Fields falls to 8, Carolina ought to grab him.

Has to be the worst run franchise in the league... at least lately
/ The Houston Texans have enter the chat.

Get back to me when you trade your all pro WR for a over the hill, injured RB.

And let your Team captain DE go for nothing.

Oh and your awesome QB, the one you planned on trading for multiple 1st rounders as he is all you have of value, he has legal issues, about women, now no one wants him.
