I can't bring myself to comment on the state of our athletics at Transfer U. Too depressing.

Hated to miss out on the G. Gordon thread before it got locked down.

Can't say I really knew Liddy, but met him several times. Interesting guy alright. An A-list classless jerk. Definitely not a hero.

Saw Liddy speak in Lee Hall auditorium in the early 80s. Fascinating person. Admired his patriotism and loyalty but not so much his covert ops for Nixon. I will say this, it is absolutely mind boggling to me how this guy can be so vilified while the stunt the Obama administration pulled on the GOP campaign is panned a nothing burger. At least the watergate crap was carried out by private individuals and didn't use government intelligence agencies complete with fraudulent FISA warrants.

Thats kinda the point I was trying to make. Small potatoes compared to what has been done in the last 12 years. Not everyone agrees with his ideas but he was loyal to the end and extremely patriotic. And the comments about his supposed admiration of Hitler isn't unwarranted. Hitler was obviously an insane madman as were his associates. But the accomplishments that country made are incredible. Smaller than Texas yet almost conquered the world. Plus all the scientific advancements also, which no matter what you say about the methodology this country sure did not mind gathering up all of the scientists and the research.

Yeah outside of hitler, Germany never was a tech marvel. I mean before their engineers and scientists were basically like third Graders in central america, and since the Third Reich, there is nothing worth buying made in Germany. ***

Also, If you call Liddy a patriot for commiting crimes to help his team win, and you think Obama did committed worse crimes, then isn't Obama a bigger patriot?

If you take Operation Paperclip into account, you can extend that to at least 1959. **

You should read more about Watergate if you think it was "private individuals" and not the FBI, CIA, and IRS helping Nixon. https://www.senate.gov/about/powers-procedures/investigations/watergate.htm

Where did Liddy and Hunt work? They worked for the Nixon Election Campaign after working in the white house for a few years.

Post WW1 Germany was a hell hole, like him or not (which I don’t), Hitler completely rebuilt and revamped the country and their economy... I’m unfamiliar with Liddy’s comments regarding Hitler but his success at bringing Germany back from the brink and into a powerhouse is unquestionable... if pointing out that fact makes me a Nazis then so be it

Yep. The US helped bail out Germany in the mid-20s when Stresemann led the governing moderate coalition. Germany's economy went into the tank largely because of the US stock market crash in 1929.

Now look at Pre WWI and post wwii Germany, As a comparison "creating a German powerhouse. You act like Germany didn't fight the whole world from 1914-1918.

And I seem to remember some type of major global economic issue in 1929-1938. I think there is a name for it somewhere... Hitler was not able to take power until that event killed the world economy. As Germany was doing well by 1925. Google :Glückliche Zwanziger Jahre

That's not to say that the horribly punitive Treaty of Versailles, didn't give him a good base to place blame, but to say that Hitler made a german miracle is at best ignorant of Germany's history of innovation, and at worst, nazi praise.

This is one of the dumbest statements this board has ever seen. Dude led the German chickens to the slaughter house and on the way killed a whole bunch of Russian, Italian, French, English, Japanese, American, Canadian, Polish, Austrian, Chinese and about twenty other countries chickens too. Oh yeah and he tried to exterminate all the Jewish chickens too which then resulted in the relocation of the remaining Jewish chickens to Israel where they get along very well with the Pakistani chickens. Not.

Dumb 17 of the year right here. Don't guess it ever crossed your mind that a group of people can be both ruthless barbaric ******** and at the same time roll out cutting edge technological advances and almost conquer the world? Ask WWII vets who fought in Africa who they most feared but also respected for his tactics and they will tell you Rommel. Were our soldiers nazi sympathizers?

We probably disagree on the definition of admiration

Pro-tip: if you don't like being called a nazi, it's super easy to not express admiration for nazis.

But on a serious note, if someone is a terrible person, does that mean everything they ever did was terrible? Take Bill Cosby for example, was it terrible when he advocated for minorities to be treated equally in the medical field or when he paid for scholarships for many minorities? Were those terrible actions?

So you think it's ok to like someone that started a world war, and killed 6 million private citizens because he blamed them for "making a secret cabal with leftists" to make germany surrender in WWI?

Any competent leader in Germany in 1933 could have made the same improvement the Nazi party did. A country can improve without a xenophobic, narcissistic dictator, leader Talking about how the old ways were better, that that modern, liberal beliefs had sacrificed National honor and allowed the state to depreciate in the name of freedom.

We’ve finally reached the “you know Hitler had some pretty good ideas” being said out loud by actual people on this message board.

And as usual, you make claims about someone’s post that they never said, and then argue against them. You love to do that. I never mentioned Hitler. I simply asked if everything Bill Cosby ever did was terrible because he is a terrible person.

I'm afraid you missed the point.
Ralph Cramden and Dawgfan7272 said HITLER was the reason behind that German success. Not Rommel, Not the engineers that made the tanks. Hitler.

Our argument back is Germans were good at making things (and had good generals, dating back to the ones that fought Caesar) before and after Hitler.

The argument isn't about how the beetle is a great car, so you must be a nazi. It's Hitler did what no one else could, make germany an industrial powerhouse. Which is False in both pre and post Nazi germany. So he's either ignorant, or a Nazi.

The political correctness king has reacted. So, if you hate someone then eliminate them from history? Is that what y'all are advocating? If so, group me with those you oppose. I despised Hitler for everything he did to the world. However, we must remember everything about him and his regime so we can see new regimes in their infancies and stop them before they come to power. The brown shirts were a good example. Today we have Antifa - same thing. Couple that with Political Correctness and burning books. We are seeing it and y'all may be on the wrong side of this discussion.

Um...what?

All I did is post a gif of Britney clapping and say I was entertained because...I was entertained. I laughed a few times in the thread so I quoted what I laughed at and told those posters I was entertained.

How the 17 do you interpret me saying 'I was entertained' as me taking the position that someone I hate should be eliminated from history? That isnt what I was saying or advocating. I wasnt advocating anything.

As for your totally odd insertion of book burning into this discussion, are liberals known for that? When I do read/hear about such an incident, I am pretty sure its almost always been Christian Fundies doing the burning. Maybe I miss hearing about all the liberal book burning events...
