He was an interesting dude. I heard him speak once at Hinds CC. I have a hard time calling him a hero though. Watergate did a LOT of damage to this country. The modern media's big game hunt really took off and hasn't stopped since. We are still paying for it in many, many ways.

An American hero? He helped to illegally break into dr offices and national party headquarters, he boasted about planning an assassination, and he profited off all of it.
Obviously there was more to him than that and I would bet much was good, but I doubt you are calling him a hero for the stuff we dont know about.

I dont understand why people choose to start threads in this manner when someone dies who was clearly controversial and not universally known for being a hero.

I read he suffered from Parkinsons later in life. Thats awful to hear.

Read his autobiography in college. If I remember correctly, he volunteered to be killed in prison to protect Nixon.

Yes, those things are horrifying and unheard of in politics. I mean, breaking into the DNC HQ, assassination of political enemies. America would never stoop that low. Those acts put a stain on true American heroes names such as the Clinton family or the Pelosi family tree

Nah, there really wasn’t. He was a lunatic shitbag doing dirty work for possibly the sleaziest president in US history. He also had a great deal of admiration for Adolph Hitler...so there’s that. The original post was a simple troll job by a poster that trolls almost exclusively...and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

- I dont consider Hillary Clinton to be a hero. Or Bill, to be clear.
- I dont know about Pelosi killing people or breaking into opposition HQ, but if she has she should be prosecuted. Also, I dont consider Pelosi to be a hero.

Your post sucked.

I am questioning why he is called an American hero because what I do know of him(admittedly limited) doesnt align with the term 'hero'.

No you weren't. You make a typical mstateglfr post™

1. Flame a conservative
2. Hedge by saying he probably did some good things
3. Virtue signal by acknowledging Alzheimer's sucks so you don't look like a complete *******.

Congrats.

I questioned why he is a hero, I admitted I dont know everything about the guy and that he probably wasnt as bad as just what is known, and added in the Alzheimers comment because its awful to think about people having it.

'virtue signaling' is so widely applied at this point that I genuinely dont even understand how it is defined by those who use it as an insult. Its a catch-all now. How am I virtue signaling when it comes to commenting on Alzheimers? That shouldnt even be a contentious topic- literally everyone should think it sucks. How is there more than one view on having Alzheimers? I am not demonstrating my good character compared to others since everyone I have every met and heard comment on Alzheimers thinks it sucks.

And there's the other typical mstateglfr talking point that is in virtually every post you make: "I admitted I don't know everything about the guy," and yet you still comment.

The word 'hero' is thrown around a lot. Gordon Liddy wasn't a hero. But the fact that you're triggered by some guy calling him one says a lot about you.

And virtue signaling - you brought up how terrible Alzheimer's is to demonstrate to the board that you are a virtuous, compassionate person, and that even though Liddy was a scumbag in your eyes (despite your admittedly limited knowledge of the guy), you can still graciously show compassion for someone who is among the least of society in your exalted opinion.

Be better. You suck.

Your post title doesn't match the post.

A criminal that broke and stole information from a political ricval to win an election is not a Hero. He is a traitor to the country. He should have been killed by the state in 1973.

To keep this on topic, who guess Matt Gaetz, would be caught with an underage girl? I thought for sure his "son" was his boy lover.... You think you know a guy...

Yeah because people all the time on here talk about the Clintons and Pelosi as "American Heros".

Actually, I think you are the first.

American Heroes are people like Teddy Roosevelt III.

Interesting timing, also, considering just the other day it was reported he was considering "retiring" from Congress so he could be a media/TV personality on Newsweek. Think they've found their man, lol.

I think you miss his point. He wasn't suggesting anyone is calling those people heroes. He was stating that they've done, or been associated with people who've done the same things a couple of you are railing on Liddy about, but wouldn't share the same level of outrage over.

As for your first sentence, I don't see a bunch of people on here all the time calling certain political figures "American Heros" (sic). I see one guy doing it in one post and some people getting unreasonably triggered over it. Like budaw said, it was a troll and you guys fell for it.

This is a great example of why political discourse sucks in this country. If Gaetz had an affair with an underage woman, then he's due every amount of grief he gets. But there's such a thing as due process in this country. Democrats like throwing out accusations and sliming people, and then ridiculing them for having the audacity to defend themselves.

I mean, I could say "SheltonChoked blows goats.....I have proof of this and have seen it with my own eyes," and then have 10 or 15 of my buddies pile on. We could give you a custom title "Blows Goats" and then you'd have to spend the rest of your time here having to defend yourself over it, and we could mock you for being so defensive. But we wouldn't do stuff like that, because it's not fair.

Are you suggesting that people only ever comment on something if they know everything there is on the topic/issue? It appears you are suggesting that, but I dont want to misinterpret or speak for you. If you arent suggesting that, then you should have no problem with me commenting on something I dont know everything about. If you are suggesting that, then I expect you will shut the 17 up on any issue that you dont know everything about(this one included).

I wasnt triggered by the OP calling him a hero. I questioned why the OP sees him as a hero and then you and a couple others did the whole 'typical glfr' shtick. If you dont view him as a hero, then you also disagree with the OP. Also, others have disagreed with the OP- go ***** at them.
I am not triggered and do not feel triggered. Just because someone questions an opinion or even disagrees with an opinion does not mean they are triggered.

Dont tell me why I commented about Alzheimers. I already said why I commented about Alzheimers, and it was not to seem virtuous. It was because I find the disease to be really bothersome even when people that did some bad **** have it.
Oh, and you are virtue signaling right now. <--this is based on one of the many ways the term is used on this site. If you disagree, take issue with so many others who misuse and overuse the term.

I agree with you that we should go thru the process to determine if someone has done what they are accused of, but an entire industry has been built to opine and attack before anything has been determined and it is heavily supported thru viewership and listeners. This industry has shown that outright lies are not only accepted, but championed.

You seem to not realize what you are complaining about the reason so many on here are misinformed.

Conservative talk radio and cable news opinion shows attack before anything has been determined. They influence public opinion and frequently use little to no facts in doing so. Often times they attack and influence opinion by using the tactic of questioning suspicion and accepting misinformation from guests.

It completely ruins political discourse, yet Ive seen you reference it countless times. Thats why it seems that you dont realize what you are complaining about.

Systemic racism is widely applied, yes. How its defined isnt confusing to me, but I agree the definition is confusing to some. Is it used as an insult?...I havent really heard that.
I do agree that the term is overused and is an easy catch-all when data and specifics arent available to further determine what the issue is.
