It may be a long shot but the first call you make is Matthew Mitchell. If his health situation has improved to where he thinks he can get back into coaching... bring him home.

I brought this up a week or two ago. I think you have to make that phone call this off-season and the sooner the better.

That would be an outstanding choice. Never understood why he stepped down so suddenly. I know health issues were reported as the reason but seemed odd at the time. That’s about as solid s choice as I’ve heard mentioned. Joni at GA would be great too but I see zero chance she would leave. She’s got them rolling now. She’s a beaut and can definitely coach a team.

He took a bad fall last offseason and had to have brain surgery. Apparently he was still having some fairly significant issues with it and the season was getting close so he stepped down.

He is only 50 though, so if he can get those health issues behind him he has a lot of years ahead of him if he wanted to coach again.

The damage is done, and the party is over. We had lightning in a bottle, and we aren’t getting it back. Is it worth it to sink millions into a non-profitable program trying to get the magic back?

^^^^This^^^^ the program is back to Cohen’s advisor LT standards.... Just like Track & Field, Softball, Volleyball, Golf, Soccer and Tennis.... Jury is out on Leach and Baseball looks to be average to MSU standards....
The “I” in IB stands for Incompetent.

I mean I get your point but do you honestly trust this administration to shift that support to other programs in a way that would actually benefit us? I sure don’t. Most likely we’d stay on about the same level in other sports and be one of the greatest collapse stories in recent D1 sports in WBB. So nothing really changes except a once proud program becomes a total abomination.

NMP has 2.25M left on her contract. No clue what the buyout is, but say it's 50%, so $1.125M. Do you really want to sink that much extra money into a money losing program that people largely don't care about just for Cohen to make another hire? If he hits it out of the park and hires a coach that consistently gets us to the elite 8 or Sweet 16 each year, that would mean basically nobody outside of MSU would know our team was any good. The only way we recoup that money is if we hire a coach that gets us a championship or at least gets us to multiple final 4's.

I would agree with that. However, what has been shown is that the fans will support a winning women's basketball program. Either get Mitchell or a young upcoming assisstant who you won't have to pay as much, but who will work hard to get the program back to where it was.

If he doesn’t make the firing soon, there won’t be anyone but the staff left! The program’s only hope is that we cut bait, hire a good coach, and can persuade those looking to leave to stay.

If Cohen decides to let her stay another year and subject the program to further embarrassment, is like waiting until an appendage starts to stink before deciding to cut it off. We all know what needs to be done. He needs to do it.

Why don’t you think we can get a proven coach? Maybe that’s true before all of the departures, but now it’s evident that NMP is the problem, not some bad apples. It’s not the program, it’s the coach. It’s not lack of support. It’s the coach. Any proven leader would see this and salivate for a chance. At least those at a lower-tier program would jump at the chance to return our program to its former glory.

With the amount of talent that is graduating and entering the transfer portal, this program is worse off than it was before Vic stepped foot on campus. Let that sink in for a minute.

This is why as a University we HAVE to take advantage of our opportunities to win championships. They only come around once in a lifetime. Even though I still don't really give a **** about women's basketball, the moment that girl from Notre Dame sunk the last second shot really really stung. I still think about it to this day, and it was only one of the few women's basketball games I've ever sat down and watched start to finish.

Possibly, but that would probably throwing a ton of money at them when the program will literally have to start from scratch with a lot of growing pains.

If she’s offered a buyout, she’d be smart to take it. She’s further ruining her brand if she stays and further tanks. She’ll be able to go be an assistant somewhere to redeem herself like football coaches do at Bama.

WBB is one of our major sports programs. It doesn't matter if it makes money. How many of our programs actually make a profit beside football ? Baseball ? I'm sure thats all. The SEC just got a new contract that starts in 25 I think that is yuuuge. There is plenty of money to support it. Nikki was obviously another huge coaching hire mistake but I would be surprised if the school makes a move this year. I wish they would but I think they will give her time to "build the program" back in her image, whatever the hell that means. Im not a big fan of women's basketball but its as close to greatness as the school has been in a real sport. And consistently also. Stick a fork in it tho....its done

She's going to no where. On Matt Wyatt's noon radio show, he has moved to blaming the players. That's a clear signal to me that she will be back.

No doubt players are most of the blame but not sitting players for not giving 100% falls on the Coach. If Jackson, Taylor and Carter come back and play 100% with effort it's a good start!

I'm iffy about Penson.
