What do we need in transfer portal

Ball Handling and a sharpshooter.

An assistant who can develop better ball skills and better shooting. Also apparently a manual on improving hand strength for the strength coach since we drop the ball 40x a game.

I expect Ado to leave. We lost freshman Montgomery to the portal earlier today. I expect a couple others to leave as well. How many spots do we have available to feel?

C, PF, a really dangerous shooter. I wouldn't mind a couple of PF rebounders that could get 10+ on any given night.

From the topic heading I came here to say less women, but then saw it was a men's topic

- A reliable ball handler to help break the press and initiate the offense without possibly turning the ball over half the time.
- A reliable perimeter shooter who will put up 8 shots per game off the catch from deep. Seriously. Our 3pt% was fine as a team, we just didnt take many.
- If Ado stays, then lets see how much Post develops and call it good with who we have. If Ado leaves, we need a big man with fast feet who can reliably anchor a defense and sees they need to slide for help off down screens(unlike so many CBB big men that are slow to see the screen develop).

There's definitely some talent in the portal right now. 5* 7'1 freshman center for UNC Walker Kessler put his name in it the other day. He had 8 blocks in their ACC tournament game vs Notre Dame. Literally every school in the nation wants him. Looks like Kentucky has already added two of the biggest names in the portal. WVU big and Davidson's leading scorer for the last 4 years. Also it would appear that we might not want to schedule South Alabama any time soon. They've added like 6-7 P5 transfers. Entire Indiana, Penn State and Minnesota teams seems to be in the portal too. I don't think we have room to be adding players though unless others are leaving which I kinda hope not but I'd make room for Kessler obviously. I already kinda hate we lost Montgomery. He had good size/athleticism for a guard at 6'7. Didn't ever seem to be in favor with Howland though. Maybe that was a maturity issue? idk we are left to speculate.

Speaking of UNC, we sure as **** coulda used Garrison Brooks for these last 4 seasons.

Brooks paired with Holman and Ado.
Brooks paired with Perry, Holman, and Ado.
Brooks paired with Perry and Ado.
Brooks paired with Tolu Smith and Ado.

Coach Brooks having his own son decommit is classic MSU.

Some of that I put on the coaches

Driving to the lane and moving the ball to the side your opponent is defending (which happened repeatedly in the NIT Championship) ain't gonna cut it! Somebody has got to coach these guys so they understand fundamentals. I can't believe they are all zoning out when the coach is talking to them.

We need another 3 and 4 that are good ball handlers and can get the basket with lay ups. Ado struggled scoring but we weren't much better at the 3 and 4 positions. Post has the ability to score in close and hit the 3 which my help but he has got to play tough defense like Ado. We were switching off on defense very well at the end of the season and I liked our defensive effort until the 2nd half of that Championship game. But, like baseball, you have to score to win games.

Let's start with looking for intelligence, then evaluate for talent after we check that box.

Post was bad shooting 3's this year. 10 for 40 at a 25% clip. I roasted Aric Holman, Fred Turner and countless others when they sucked from 3. Post is no different. If you can't make at least 35% of them don't shoot em. I do like his stroke but 25% is hurting the team. Time to get in the gym for him. Weight room too. He's gonna have a busy off season.

While he would love Old Waverly, I have a simpler, and more probable possibility

Post was terrible behind the arc this year. But he made up for it with high turnovers, silly fouls, and overall low basketball IQ.

Kid's got a lot of growing to do. He has the physical tools but he was lost this year. I haven't taken the time to look at his +/- but it can't be good.

Let's say we have all of these guys returning
Molinar
Stewart
Matthew's
Tolu smith
D smith
Fountain
Garcia
Post
J Davis

Plus our two new recruits. That leaves maybe 2 scholarships I think. If we can get an effective big man and a wing that can drive and shoot I think we have something. Until we get some better offensive sets we are always gonna be stagnant on offense. Howland needs an offensive analyst that can help this off season
