Helps to have the #1 draft pick in a sport so easily influenced by a #1 draft pick but she's probably not #1 without Vic and he's definitely not in the E8 without her. That said it's a phenomenal coaching job by probably a top 3 current WBB coach. Sucks we lost him but we did and we aren't doing ourselves any favors dragging ourselves thru the pits of sorrow daily over it. Congrats Vic and 17 you for dumping us. Damn snake.

I mean if people are going to discredit Vic’s quick success for having a top draft pick this year, then you kinda have to say the same thing about him having Vivians and McCowan at the same time, so it’s a shallow argument for me. Vic is an outstanding coach.

Your AD pushed him out the door for wanting to maintain and build on the program.

I didn't discredit it. I thought I fairly read it. He's done an outstanding job for Texas this year no questions about it. He's done a horrendous job for us this year also no questions about it. We shoulda just copied his "this is what you should do next 30 days" note he probably didn't leave us.

This one surprised me. I should have known better than to doubt Vic. Maryland is a very good offensive team, averaging over 90 a game, and they get 61 vs. The Minister.

Only so many sports a lower budget P5 school can thrive in. Can't be all of them.

Well, she was the #1 or 2 player nationally coming out of HS, so as good as Vic and his staff are, this wasn't quite the project Teaira was.

Like Dan, we offered Vic more money to stay. He didn't want to. Our fans need to face the fact that neither of them wanted to stay, and we can't offer what Florida and Texas can offer. Baseball is the only sport where we aren't a stepping stone. Just best to face facts.

So what exactly did Cohen do to push Vic out? Please don't do the same ole cop-out ********. Have the balls to say what you are implying.

Salary wasn’t the reason Vic left for Texas...

so, what is the real reason Vic left?

Apparently nobody really knows. With as many people that claim to know, it would have leaked by now because it wouldn't be traceable back to a single person now if it leaked.

I'm gonna go with "he wanted to get back to his home state, Texas is more prestigious, and Texas has the ability to make him the highest paid coach in the country if he earns it".

Says the guy who was constantly posting about Blair being the reason for the departure. You don’t know what shame is, gramps. Now go take your morning meds and Metamucil and watch Price Is Right.

Maybe there were other reasons but his ceiling is higher at Texas, it just is. They’re also building a new arena that will no doubt help with recruiting.

Dude went to 2 national championship games in 2 years. Not sure what else you can do from a ceiling standpoint besides win the whole thing.

Quit worrying about women's basketball. We had our chance in 2018, and blew it. It wasn't meant to happen.

I mean you’re not wrong and we would’ve stayed good if he stayed in Starkville. What he built here was sustainable, unfortunately it’s not being sustained. But it took him one year to get to the Elite 8 at Texas, it was Year 5 here.

I think generally it’s just easier to recruit there and easier to win in the Big 12. Like I said, very well may have been other reasons, but you can objectively make a case for Texas being a better job long term.

exactly! Cooter would LOOSE HIS MIND if he knew what really was going on.

Well tell us all why he left then... Everytime this thread pops up there is always a few that want to float stuff like this but never want to come out and say what they believe happened.

Aww man you really were bothered by me implying his single and just graduated from college daughter might be potential reasoning for his departure. That's crazy. Remember when she did an interview with Andy Cannizzarro? Did you lose your mind then too?

Not only his home state, his hometown within that state (or at least the city where he was born).

Can I just add that our fans also need to stop blaming old ghosts for current issues. It’s done, it’s weak, and it’s not like Vic pulled a Calipari and left us with NCAA problems while taking all our recruits.

Accept some accountability and move on

I’d love to see Vic as AD. Couldn’t be any worse than what we have now. He’s just as qualified if not more qualified than Cohen.

Austin > Starkville

unfortunately we're going to have this problem until the end of time. I love Starkville, and you love Starkville, but this is always going to be an issue. There are very few millionaires that truly want to call Starkville home and settle there, especially ones that aren't originally from the area.

We joke about it, but there not having a Target is a big deal. Not having sidewalks everywhere is a big deal. Having Starkville High and Starkville Academy as the only school options is a big deal. Having traffic from Wendy's block highway 12 is a big deal. Its just a small town and that's not what these ego maniac coaches are looking for.
