Based on what you’ve seen thus far, whose your SEC starters?..

Assuming Smith & Bednar are healthy enough to enter the rotation, I'm fine with any combination of MacLeod, Sims, Smith, Bednar, Hardy

Bednar

Harding/Fristoe

I like having 2 big time firemen for long relief in Smith and Sims

Some combination of MacLeod, Cerantola, Bednar and Brandon Smith. I also think Cerantola is at least several more starts away from being in any real jeopardy of losing his spot.

I don’t think we see Cerantola starting on the weekend again. We don’t have the offense to hope that he figures it out.

Right now, for me, it is Bednar, Macleod, and Harding. If Macleod doesn’t get right, Smith might take his spot. I could see a plan of backing Harding up with Fristoe, going from slow to fast. Backing Macleod up with Sims for the same reason. Or vice versa.

Fri. - Bednar depending on how innings he can throw
Sat - Smith
Sunday - MacLeod

If Bednar can’t start everyone moves up and if MacLeod can’t find it bring in Fristoe

At this point, I think Fristoe has proven that he belongs somewhere in the weekend starting rotation. I think MacLeod will figure things out, but can’t say the same for Cerantola. For me, I would go:

MacLeod
Brandon Smith
Fristoe

Then you still have a nasty pen full of guys that can eat innings (if need be) with the likes of Bednar, Sims, Harding, etc.

Seems like EC has been pitching on the potential of what he could be for over 2 years now. Its time that he moves to midweek or bullpen until he EARNS some trust. We just have too much talent and depth on the staff to try and baby a guy along that can just totally lose the strike zone at any point in time and give away multiple runs to the opposition.

MacLeod hasn’t lost his starting job. Fristoe has solidified his. The only question in my mind is Saturday. Bednar was supposed to start the first Saturday. If he is healthy, I can see:
Friday: MacLeod
Saturday: Bednar
Sunday: Fristoe

I think I might alter my week 1 line up because we are obviously trying to work Bednar back up to speed slowly. He's pitched one inning all season so I don't know if he is going to be ready to go 5 in two weeks. Also, after Sunday I think its going to be hard to keep Fristoe out of the line-up. This is obviously a different kind of season. Even with Macleod's slow start in a normal year you would never think of dropping him out of the rotation but this is not a normal year. You just can't keep a guy out there who is struggling with so many guys behind him that are lights out. Cerantola is a for sure major league prospect and I believe he has a long and fruitful career ahead of him but I don't think we have the time to fix him at this level. It sucks because he has so much potential but I don't believe we will ever see that potential until he is doing this professionally where he can get the level of intense instruction needed to get that arm under control. He is not going to magically turn it around this season. Even if he has a good start against E Mich he will be what he is this season and that is a guy with a million dollar arm with 10 cent control. He will not be an SEC starter but hopefully he can still contribute.
