Entertaining first half. Gotta love Cam Matthews getting a steal at the end. First seconds he's seen in two weeks and he immediately gets a steal.

I will not miss Ados slow *** feet and lack of offensive ability.

You'll miss his defense but I think it'll be another year before the missing or not missing starts. Idk what he needs to do but strengthening his hands has to be top priority.

Based on what?
Molnar, Stewart, Tulu, are only sophomores. Obviously all those players are great. We got Deivon Smith who’s playing really well right now. He’s only a freshman. We also got fountain a freshman who has a ton of upside. Cam Matthews is a freshman, and he could be a decent post presence. Just a lot of potential for this very young team. I could see a nice little run in this SEC tournament. Anyone not on board for next year can screw right off.

I love our style of play too. Hard nose basketball, tough defense, and they give the other teams all they want in the paint.

The only thing that we did wrong today was on free throws. That can be adjusted in the off-season. we limited turnovers well today.

Most of our losses this year are in very close games. Part of the struggle of being a young team.

First of all, none of those players you mentioned are “great”. I get it, you are biased. Somehow having MSU on their jersey makes them better than they really are through those maroon colored glasses of yours. But be careful with the G word. It can make you sound silly.

Second of all, assuming all of those players you listed will be back is naive given the current climate in college basketball. Stewart could decide he wants to go to the G-League, make $75K a year and get the coaching and training to develop his game in a way he can’t get at MSU, setting him up for a nice career overseas.

Molinar (and his advisors) may decide that he needs to play somewhere where they aren’t determined to constantly feed the post. And who would blame him in today’s college basketball.

The third assumption you make is that they all are going to get better. All players have ceilings and never crash them no matter how much they play (see Ado).

And finally, if MSU has to depend heavily on D Smith and Matthews, I hope you enjoy 50 point games.

I have to hand it to you, you are an optimistic one. No matter what the realities are.

It’s very clear. Howlands got another year. This is one of his youngest teams. The only other team younger was his 2016-17 team. Everyone should come back next year. Lots to look forward to. If we fall on our face next year and miss the tournament, well then Howland has to go.

it’s gonna be the same until he starts recruiting some shooters. Noone he’s signed for next year is a pure shooter. Auburn made more 3’s than we attempted. You can’t play 2 bigs with limited range in today’s game.

Other teams don’t care about the paint. That’s not where the game is anymore. It’s about scoring, shooting and perimeter. Unfortunately we haven’t figured that out yet and that’s why we won’t win next year.

I imagine you’re about the only one who enjoys slow, plodding, bleed the shot clock to under 5 seconds style of basketball.

Grind it out basketball may have worked 15-20 years ago in the golden days of Stansbury, but it doesn't really anymore except in very rare circumstances. Not saying defense isn't important, but you've got to be able to score consistently.

I saw someone post on another board that Howland is not going to not play his best defender and his best rebounder. And that is the problem. While other coaches are putting as many scorers on the floor as they can, Howland is stuck in the 80’s.

Who is his best defender and best rebounder?

Yep, it was awful to watch in the 80’s and even harder to watch now.... you win in today’s basketball with guards who can run the floor, create their own shot and hit open 3’s...

The last champion was Virginia. They finished dead last (#355) in scoring that year (2018-9). Here's the other 3 final four teams and their ppg ranking:
Auburn #187
Michigan state #231
Texas tech #268

Ppg allowed:
Virginia #1
Texas tech #26
Michigan st #45
Auburn #194

Virginia was #7 in 3-pt shooting, but they are the ultimate grind it out type team. They got the least possessions per game in the whole country that year.

That seems like a lifetime ago. The game is changing. I think more and more people are not going to load up the family truckster to go watch paint dry.

If we shot 75% from the free throw line we would be in the Big Dance. Just that one thing. Is that Ben’s fault? Can a Coach really coach free throw shooting or is that an individual thing? Hell, you might argue that I’d Tolu shot 75% we would be in the Big Dance

If a coach can't coach free throw shooting and it is an individual thing, a coach could damn sure recruit some players who can shoot free throws. Bottom line, these are HIS players with HIS coaching. It's all on him either way.

Tulo who seems to be main culprit in these close losses with FT shooting is really good. What teams would he not play for in the sec? Avg over 12 ppg and leads the sec in rebounding.

Yesterday, he almost had an air ball on one of his free throws, barely hitting the bottom front of the rim. Looked like he fell forward when he released the ball. To his credit, he made the second shot.

If nothing else, he can make them practice free throws. The girls, even this year's team, shoot FTs a lot better (or maybe it just seems that way).

Dare to be different. If Howland gets an elite team with this style he can win at an elite level with them. Virginia won a natty, VCU went to the FF, Butler went to back to back natty's even Frank Martin went to a FF with a defensive team. I think Howland can do it here. We have that type of athleticism and size that puts us in the top tier of CBB. They just have to clean up the little things now. Make free throws, stop turning the ball over, stop fumbling passes, stop giving up so many 3's. We just do those things better this year we win 5-6 more games easy.

The style is fine imo, but only if we cut down on TOs and shoot FTs better. Hopefully we return 4 starters and almost all our depth next year. Just a year of experience should trim down on the above categories.
