they got a warrant to search the black box. This doesn't seem like standard procedure in a one vehicle accident that causes no property damage even though the sheriff is saying it is. I could see an insurance agent perhaps pursuing the details of the box but the Los Angeles sheriffs office? Don't they have better things to do than try to find whatever they possibly can to make Tiger's crash more than just an accident? Imagine the LA County getting warrants for every traffic accident in LA county.

We're bombing Syria and the media is focusing on Mr. Potatohead and Dr. Suess. You expect anything less? The ratings golden goose is no longer in office. They got to find something else.

Not going to pretend to know about LA Sheriff standard operating procedures, but Woods could have tens of millions of dollars in insurance dollars on the line with income loss policies. I would think those settlements could be impacted if it is found that he was driving recklessly. That blackbox should give insight into speed, acceleration, turning angle, etc.

You seem to lump right leaning, left leaning, and centrist media outlets all together in criticism of what they focus on. That is surprising, but OK then.

As for reporting on whats important- I agree the news should cover what is immediately important. It can also cover other topics. Global news, national news, state news, local news, sports, etc- all are justifiably covered.

I think if Tiger has another automotive incident of this magnitude a lot of the public goodwill towards his celebrity status will start to fade. He'll be seen as someone who isn't fit to operate a motor vehicle. He's fortunate no one was killed this time.

He already should have his drivers license revoked. Probably permanently.

If I had Tiger money, somebody would be driving me around.

I'm not fooling with LA traffic if I don't have to.

Perhaps it IS more than "just an accident"? Perhaps tox screens showed something, that's not info they can send to you to justify to you why they are doing it, you know HIPAA, privacy and such. Perhaps the last people that were with him came forth and said "hey bud, Tiger was F.U. when he left our place" and they just didn't get around to calling you to tell you that. Judge isn't going to grant a warrant w/out cause. If he FU then he FU and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore. Sit back and wait for results.

Nah I think a lot of people are hoping Tiger 17ed up and some of them are putting pressure on the sheriff to make that so. If this was Joe Blow on the street I 1000% guarantee you the very busy Los Angeles sheriff's department isn't seeking warrants for black boxes on one car vehicle accidents causing zero property damage. Treat standard procedure like standard procedure. This isn't standard it's abnormal and that sounds to me like a potential lawsuit for Tiger.

I think the above theory about loss of income insurance makes much more sense than the LA Sheriff saying "oooooh let's nail Tiger's ***"

The man did change the professional game of golf with the increase in physical fitness and strength that the pros have now. He also inspired millions across the globe to take the game up. Also, good or bad, he is one of the main reasons that Nike was able to increase their footprint across all sports.

Your constant concern for Tiger is rapidly approaching “creepy” status.

My media WTF of the day is how they've just about quit talking about Cuomo's nursing home disaster that possibly killed a bunch of people because some secretary accused him of pinching her *** or something to that effect.

That isn't something the sheriff would/should be doing though, at least in most (all?) states. Warrants are for criminal matters. If the insurance company is gearing up to potentially deny a claim, the normal way to approach that would be for the insurance company to send out a request to preserve any evidence to the car company and also ask for the black box and ask the insured to give any consent necessary to release the black box info. If that doesn't work, the next step would be to subpoena the info.

Unless there is something quirky about their law, him trying to get a warrant would seem to indicate he thinks there is probably cause that Tiger broke some laws. That's assuming it's not good politics there to try to embarrass celebrities and/or be seen as being tough on them. If that's an incorrect assumption, then he certainly could just be acting unethically and trying to fish for dirt.

It is pretty crazy. The charitable interpretation is that he did something grossly incompetent and idiotic that costs thousands of people their lives. The salacious interpretation is that he did campaign donors a favor by making sure they didn't get stuck caring for a bunch of old people long term while receiving medicare payments that didn't cover the cost.

So in the minds of much of the media, either making aggressive sexual advances is worse behavior and more newsworthy than killing a bunch of old people, or they aren't worried about either but are focusing on the sexual advances because that sucks up oxygen to prevent extensive coverage of his deadly incompetence.

I heard he was rushing to catch a flight to DC to make sure that Trump got sworn in today and cell phone call might have been recorded on the black box.***

I don’t see how its possible for there to have been no property damage. Even if it wasn’t private / personal property, seems like he would have had to at least destroy a guard rail or something.

I would think those settlements could be impacted if it is found that he was driving recklessly. That blackbox should give insight into speed, acceleration, turning angle, etc.

The most likely scenario is that multiple motorists were likely eyewitnesses to what they perceived to be reckless driving on Woods’ behalf before the crash, and reported it to the L.A. Sherriff’s department. There’s a degree of reckless driving in pretty much every traffic jurisdiction in the country that is considered a felony. If Woods was within that threshold, and it was reported by eyewitnesses to the Sherriff’s department, they can’t just not investigate it, no matter who it is. It would be no different than if eyewitnesses saw him robbing a bank, or beating the hell out of his wife in public.

Probably standard procedure to see if he was violating a traffic law. And given his popularity, they might want to make sure he's not getting preferential treatment, but they also need to make sure he's not being singled out because of his popularity. As long as the accident didn't involve any injury to other people, he should be OK. I'm sure he's willing to pay for the city sign he ran over.

And whether he was on the phone, texting, asleep (he apparently told the deputies he didn't even remember driving) or some other distracted driving action.

Has he had other accidents of this magnitude? Not that I know of. He was asleep at the wheel, but in a parking lot as I recall, which is technically a violation, but at least he had the wherewithall to pull over and sleep. And the other was right after his wife smashed the window in with a 5-iron, which could be somewhat distracting.

Don't know if it's standard or not, but there wasn't zero property damage. The new vehicle was totally destroyed (north of $50K) and the city entrance sign was run over. Hopefully it's not a case of just jumping on Tiger because he's Tiger though. I wish him no ill will.

Don't all cars have black boxes now?

Anybody here signed up with the insurance company's "offer" to be continuously monitored for a slightly cheaper rate? I'll pass on that one.

They are all guilty of focusing on issues generated by Twitter mobs. The news cycle is the same damn thing every time. Liberal media makes a big deal out of something 50% of the country thinks is silly. Conservative media mocks liberal media making a big deal out of it. Then liberal media reports how racists/xenophobic/homophobic conservative media is because they just don't give a **** about the packaging of butter. Rinse. Repeat. Its unwatchable.
