3-2 with the two losses to VT who looks to be pretty good having taking 2 of 3 from #6 Miami this past weekend. Their ace is Albright who pitched pretty well against VT, 1 hit 1 run in 5 innings.

Definitely an upgrade in competition from who we had coming in.

You think those guys know what kind of experience they are going to have this weekend? I am pretty sure playing at Miss State will be the high light of their college baseball career.

They're actually a pretty good program. They've been to 14 Regionals (for contrast, Southern Miss has been to 16 Regionals) and they have a bunch of conference and conference tournament championships. We beat them in the 2001 regional at Ohio State. They finished second.

I am talking more facilities and these particular players.

Worth noting that Kent State does have an Omaha appearance in the last decade, and they actually won a game there too. Eliminated Florida who was the top overall seed.

I’m not saying The Dude isn’t a special atmosphere. But as somebody who played a LOT of baseball growing up... you know what I wanted to do when we rolled up somewhere to a team sporting all this fancy gear, manicured field and cool stadium?

I wanted to beat their ***. Like drive them into the ground.

Not once on the ride home (win or lose) did I think... wow.. that was really cool of them to let us experience their park.

....and I doubt the Kent players will feel any differently.

You made a statement about not breaking my arm when talking about our baseball stadium. Hell it is the best in the country. I helped pay for it with my donations. I don't have to pat myself on the back. The stadium does that for me. I know guys who played baseball at Auburn and a few other schools and they are proud to say they got to play in the old Dude. With my job I come in contact with a lot of formal baseball players. A few of them played in the Major league. When I tell them where I went to school they always bring up our baseball stadium. Our stadium is well known across the country and yes I am very proud of it. My point was all about the stadium. That's it.

Highlight was probably the wrong word, but I think people forget what a niche sport baseball is outside of the Southeast. Kent State may be different since they have a good history, but I suspect most players leave more than a little jealous of the stadium and probably more so of having a good crowd to play in front of before tournament play.

You and GloryDawg are both right. Some opposing players/teams/coaches have proclaimed it's the best park they ever played in. And I don't think our players or coaches are shoving that in their faces when they come to town either. We fans might, but between the white lines it's still just a field of competition. We're (fans, team, admin. alike) also known as great hosts.

None of this applies to SEC competition, of course.

I won’t be shocked if we drop a game given that we are still a work in progress. Just win the series and you won’t get any complaints from me though. With TN Tech I would’ve said we need to sweep because they are terrible, but Kent State is better and likely won’t be the same RPI bomb that TN Tech would’ve been so that gives us a little more leeway.
