I am usually a little slow to jump on the fire the AD bandwagon. But, as I hear about hogs with ranked men's and women's basketball teams, dominating track teams, #1 baseball team.... it really kinda irritates me. There is no good reason that State couldn't be in the same boat. We need the right leader to get us there.

They probably have a better history in those other sports, and their baseball has been good for a while. They are the best track program of all time.

We kant have nice things! But also Arkansas Track and Field has had its share of run ins with the NCAA....NCAA Athletics is much like NASCAR, if you’re not cheating you aren’t trying hard enough to win.

There are 3 sports that matter to SEC and you want to hire the AD who literally hired the worst head coach in SEC history and followed that up with Sam Pittman. No thanks. I don’t give a **** how good we are in women’s basketball or track and neither do most others in our fanbase. Our baseball program is as good or better than Arkansas. Our basketball program isn’t very good but that isn’t on the current AD. He inherited Howland and let’s be honest everyone thought Howland was a home run hire anyway.

I am pretty sure you know the situation with public universities in Arkansas and Mississippi are mirror images. The MS legislature pissed away any chance at academic and athletic competitiveness by putting MSU in Starkville, and then adding colleges all over the place that could not be adequately funded. The horse is out of the barn, unfortunately.

However, I still wouldn't want to live in Arkansas, or be counted among their fans.

They’re number 1... today... in week 2 of the season and we have the number 2/3 ranked team.

They also don’t have to share their state (which has roughly the same, but slightly higher, population as Mississippi) with any other Power 5 programs.

ETA: Mike Neighbors is a UPig alum and had already been very involved in that program previously. I’m not even sure whether it was Yuracheck or Jeff Long that hired him, but either way, the better question would be why did it take them so long? Guess he had to mentor Kelsey Plum to the NCAA scoring record before they felt like they could pull the trigger.

So, you going to pony up the difference between the two Sports budgets .. ~ $30 Million? That would help a lot more than this constant bitching about Cohen.

If you live in Mississippi, it’s easy to forget that UPig has “friends” with much deeper pockets. We’ll have to settle for better fans. Too many UPig fans think their **** doesn’t stink.

They have a MUCH better history in all sports than us other than baseball, and baseball is pretty even. 10 CWS appearances for Arky to 11 for us. They're also the only major school in the state and have a LOT more money than us. I've been in the Cohen has to go camp for a long time, but it's not because he's not keeping up with Arkansas.

If the Leach hire works out like we all HOPE it does, then this conversation is pointless. Football pretty much overrides everything else. Auburn figured out this fact long ago, and after a lot of time they have enough money to finally fund the other things easily, while they football program is literally too big to fail.

A big investment in football pays off. Arkansas doesn't have many chips on the table at the moment. Cohen is all-in. I've said this 100 times, because I likely wouldn't have went about it the way Cohen did, but "we will see".

Way too many of our fans can't see past today, like that clown above who commented about Sam Pittman beating us this year. Just wait.

They’re then at $90 million with what they raise on their own off ticket sales, merchandise, licensing, donations, etc. We’re at about $60 million for the same. So the true difference in what the schools command individually from a revenue standpoint is more like 50%. Put in those terms, Arkansas might be the most underachieving SEC athletic department of the past decade plus. Outside of that one run they had to the CWS finals, they really haven’t done anything over that time.

OUCH. Every time I even think about that I feel so damn bad for that player. I mean I'm glad they didn't win the CWS, but to lose that way is just brutal. Granted, I only ever knew one UPig fan and he was a good guy. Lost him to Covid. Maybe the rest of them are ********, and I shouldn't feel bad for them.

The current AD didn't hire Chad Morris. They were both hired within a few days of each other. The interim AD and BOT (Jerry Jones) basically made that hire.

It helps that both current women's basketball (Neighbors) and baseball (Van Horn) coaches are Arkansas alums who just happen to be really good coaches and are committed to staying and building their respective programs. Musselman looks like a great hire but that was after 3-4 bad or mediocre hires for 20 years and this is only his second year.

He didn't get the luxury of playing Vandy, South Carolina or Kentucky like Kiffin did, who got all three.

He got Florida and Georgia added to his schedule from the East, two top 10 teams. I'm not sure how anyone could argue that's not harder than getting to play Vandy, Kentucky or SC. It was literally the hardest SEC schedule possible.

And the whole world saw how the Auburn officiating fiasco ended which also wrongly gave him another loss. Not saying he's going to be winning 10 games or anything but under a normal schedule if the bowl game hadn't been canceled he had a chance to equal about 7-6 in a non-COVID year. A winning record seems like a minor miracle after taking over the remains of the Chad Morris era.

Football was disappointing. Men Basketball was disappointing. Women basketball was disappointing. If baseball falls flat and nothing is done to fix all four then a serious discussing should be taking place about Cohen's future. I think football will be ok but the two basketball programs should be in a better position.
