A pipeline that was not even completed was keeping gas prices low? It could have more to do with OPEC cutting production but who knows

Has everything to do with 50% of us refining capacity being offline until the 23rd due to the power outage in texas.

So, it's going to keep going up.
We need to shut down those polluters once and for all. The lot of em. The stimlus will pay for my gas.*

I remember when prices went way up in the 2000’s Dennis Miller had a great line, sorry it is probably inaccurate.
When you look at all things considered, it’s pretty remarkable that we can move a 4000 pound piece of metal 20 miles for 4 bucks.
I also laugh at people that complain about gas costing 3.00 a gallon when I see them buy 20 Oz of water for a dollar. You are paying 6.00 a gallon for something that I get for pennies.

The price was up .20 a gallon in Brandon before the ice storm. Oil hit 60 dollars the other day before the storm. Has nothing to do with winter storm in Texas. Prices are up because of the things Biden has done and the speculations of what's to come from him. I guess losing a 100k job a year is ok for someone else when your family has gotten rich off your political office.

On the other hand I really don't blame him. He is not a active President. He is just some old cognitive impaired guy wearing a 2000.00 dollar suit siting in chair while someone else run the country. The Biden of 25 years ago would not be killing Pennsylvania with this crazy *** crap.

To obtain gasoline the oil companies have million dollar a day ships go 100 miles into the Gulf of Mexico. Once there they drop a drill bit through 1000 ft of ocean so it can drill miles through the earths crust. Then they have to lay a pipe back to land where a billion dollar refinery boils this highly volatile and flammable crude oil to separate out the gasoline and other products for us. They do this all day every day without blowing up the refinery. Then through a distribution network they make this gasoline available at every major crossroads in the USA.

For less than the cost of a gallon of milk.

To obtain a gallon of milk, all you do is yank on a cow.

It’s not unusual for seasonal gas increases to occur at this time of year. It’s likely happened a little earlier than normal because people want to travel some.

It’s been this way for ages.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised at an additional price increase considering what’s happening in Texas.

Shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline construction has nothing to do with short term crude or gas prices. In the long run possibly but what’s happening right now has more to do with other factors.

The price of oil increased overall during W's 8 years. It rose significantly then dropped hard. And a few months before W left office, oil was going for the highest price ever.

The price of oil increased slightly overall under Obama's 8 years. It rose significantly then dropped hard.

The price of oil increased overall during Trump's 4 years. It rose for most of the time, dropped hard early in the pandemic, then shot up.

Whatever happens in the coming 4 to 8 years, one side will blame the president just like the last 3 presidents were blamed by one side.
If the price of oil goes up, Biden will be blamed by some for policies that are seen as anti-energy even though oil net increased under W and Trump this century too.
If the price of oil drops, Biden will be blamed by some for policies hurting one of our largest industries and killing jobs.

That’s funny seeing that the price of gas has slowly increased since the inauguration. 1.89 to 2.39 per gallon around me.

The great detail you go into for gettin gas to consumers could easily be done with milk too. And all the products it gives consumers and businesses- milk, yogurts, cheeses, butters, whey powder, etc etc.

Its funny that you cited a couple of subsidized industries to compare costs. That's just absurd. But since you did it, let's see which industry is subsidized more, which helps keep costs at the pump low.

Gas prices are lowest in the dead of winter, they increase in the warmer months when more people are traveling. It’s been that way for ages.

We’ve seen an increase in the coldest months this year.

When it hits 3.50 a gallon in the summer yall can quit making excuses. When a dementia addled fool cuts off a pipeline in construction, stops drilling permits and makes it sure that we won't be self sufficient, you put yourself in the hands of countries who want our demise. Gas is up 50 cents in 6 weeks during the time when gas is usually bottoming out before the Spring travel season. Half a dollar is way too much for seasonal adjustment. It has everything to to do with electing a ship of fools.

So I'm curious. Do we want gas prices low and have 100,000 high paying oil/gas industry permanent jobs lost like we did in 2020 when WTI hit $35 and gas was $1.75? Or do we want to cut a pipeline FROM CANADA, that brings Canadian oil to the US and supported a few thousand temporary jobs building a pipeline, but dilute the value of US oil. Let oil get back to $100 per barrel and those 100,000 jobs will all come back.

I want Canadian oil like folks in Mississippi want Vietnamese catfish. I need to get them royalties flowing again and you 17ers want some moose17ers to ship cheap oil to Texas refineries. ****, gas prices ain't hurting you Fishwatering, Bitcoining, Ganestoping, Diamond Handing mfers.... Take all that stimmy and put it into your gas budget. We have 10-15 years of gas left, I need $100 oil baby.... Or do I want cheap gas.

I can't figure it out. Do I want cheap gas so Paw-Paw can save $300 a year on fuel for his shuffleboard commute or expensive gas so he can get $750 in extra XOM dividends and we can pay hundreds if thousands of people to come back to the oil fields

17 it. I'm buying a Tesla....

You 17ing political idiots can't see that you are making the same argument in a different way as the other idiots you despise. Cheap gas cuts jobs. Expensive gas cuts a lot less jobs.

I say we just 17 the Canadians and do it all ourselves. A shitload more Americans will have good paying jobs if the Canadians keep there oil in the ground or try to ship it around the continent on boats or over rail.

Hallelujah holy ****. Let's talk bourbon or baseball.

There's nothing to blame Biden for; he doesn't have a clue and doesn't even know what day of the week it is. The real culprits are Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, etc.

You do understand that the Keystone pipeline pumps CANADIAN (FOREIGN) oil into the US. Biden shut down a second one called the XL. If he capped the original, thousands of shuttered us wells and rigs would reopen. Including my family's in East Tx that were shut 10 years ago when the original Keystone pipeline opened.

As for the other part, I have sacked up and fought the idiots in the middle east. Fallujah is a real ********, but at least I missed a good chunk of the Croom era.

If you want to ***** about Biden, go after that drilling moratorium... The Keystone pipeline is a ruse lobbyists sold the world that actually benefits Canada and big oil, not everyday americans.

We're always dependent on foreign oil, its just a question of degree. We may be a net exporter of oil products right now, but the US does not produce the heavy crude needed for our refineries so we still import around 9 MM barrels per year

And even if we could retrofit all of our refineries and increase production so that we no longer needed any imports, oil prices would still be controlled by OPEC. Oil is a commodity with market prices, and you cannot expect US producers to ignore market price, any more than you would expect orange growers or cotton farmers to.

But also gas will follow crude prices. Crude has gone up considerably in the last few months for multiple reasons, mostly from OPEC slashing production since the pandemic hit and never really ramping back up and the expectation that things are about to get rolling again around the world with Covid waning. Throw in some stimulus spending cash and people will start spending more on driving and shipment of purchased goods.

Simple supply and demand

Blame Biden or the keystone pipeline all you want but the fact of the matter is none of that has anything to do with current gas prices. Russia and OPEC countries cut production by over 1 million barrels per day in early January.

It’s less supply being pumped out and demand for air travel is slightly picking up.

Exactly. But Facebook is telling all these guys it’s Biden’s fault for cutting a pipeline.

Refineries haven’t been running full heavy for a while with declining Central and South American oil and the abundance of cheap fracking oil. The 80’s refineries that were printing money are now at a disadvantage to the nimble independents. There are still some contract Arabian crudes but most go to China/India.

Gas is rising because crude is rising because Saudi sacrificed an extra 1mm cut at the last opec+ meeting. The next meeting is in March and there may be some relief to avoid reawakening the frackers.

Here’s the issue - the majors are slashing capex by nearly 50% and are spending a lot of effort to lower their 17n carbon footprint to avoid their stock being punished by the idiot fund managers that think you fuel a Model X on butterfly kisses and unicorn farts. So when production continues to decline from the old wells and you have stopped drilling new ones because AOC tweets the supply/demand gets out of balance and the US returns to net importer. Gas go to 4$ and you can’t fly to Vegas for under 600$ plus Amazon now adds a fuel surcharge because permitting on private property slows to a crawl.

Opec+ decides they need a little bit of a cushion in their socialist war chest so they slow play output increases because you know social distancing and **** prevents them from meeting more often.

At $4.50 the economy grinds to a halt as people go into a self imposed lockdown because every damn thing they buy has now increased by 25%. And in the end, there’s a global net emissions Increase because outside of the west the producers DGAF about 2C when they can be stacking sats to fund their regimes. I’m long oil.....and Bitcoin!!

Only about 18% of our oil comes from OPEC.

Who is our oil? You talking about the US?

That really does not matter though. You guys are missing the fundamentals of supply and demand. OPEC controls damn near 80% of the known oil reserves. Meaning if OPEC wants to raise crude oil prices they lower the amount of oil they are putting out. Due to the fact that they control so much oil, they control the price of oil. If they flood the market with oil it drives the price down, even if no one buys it. That happened last spring/summer when the price of oil went negative.

I can’t really speak to what the output is now but in most years OPEC produces 40% of the worlds oil.
