Been on a bit of a hot sauce kick where I've been trying different sauces. Wondering what are some of the best hot sauces y'all have come across? Mine is this Pepper Plant sauce. Goes great with everything and especially bloody mary's

I don't understand why people want to put hot sauces in one big category. I find I like different hot sauces for different foods. If I eat Chicken Cheese soup or Chicken and Dumplings I go Tobasco. On wings I almost always add Frank's. Many Mexican dishes goes Tapatio. Sriracha goes on burgers and other foods I use ketchup or mayo. Then there are some Korean hot sauces like gochujang for Asian food. I just dont see them as there could be one that I use every where.

Totally agree. If I *could* only have one for everything, it would probably be Crystal.

Here are my two favorites that can span a wide range of dishes. Add in a little sriracha for the asian dishes and it's all I need. I'm not a big vinegar fan, but Louisiana and Tabasco always work. If you can get to TJ's, the habanero hot sauce is amazing... high heat and high flavor. Amazing.

I'm pretty much a hot sauce slut. Love a lot of it and love variety. That said, the one exception for me is regular tobasco. Not that it's hot, but it's all heat with very little flavor.

If I had to pick two, I'm simple. Sriracha and Louisiana hot sauce. Sriracha for asian foods, smoked tuna dip, hamburgers, or just with a slice of cheese. Louisiana for chili, gumbo, and oysters. I use both (not at the same time) for spaghetti and bloody marys.

My everyday plain sauce is Crystal, or Louisiana if Crystal's not available.

That Chili Pepper Sauce from Trader Joes that JoeLee put up picture of is really good on tomato based spicy dishes.

Cholula Plain, Cholula Green and Cholula Chipotle are great for flavor on everything but are light on the Heat if that is what you are looking for.

I'm not a Tabasco fan at all, too vinegary, I go w/out rather than use it. Same for all wing sauces. Only time I use wing sauce is to mix it 50/50 w/ regular BBQ sauce to take the heat up a notch

I don't get people's desire for the heat itself. I get the high flavor part. I eat a lot of hot/spicy foods because of the flavor that only come with heat. However, if I could get that same flavor without the heat, I would be fine with that too. The heat is just a necessary byproduct.

Note: I grew coolapenos this past year to try along with some other peppers. Great flavor - no heat.

but i love all hot sauces except that. Texas Pete as my everyday though

The best hot sauce in all of Jackson is the brown sauce from Little Saigon. We buy it by the jar.

I love having the heat mixed in with some real flavor. That's why I find ones like the Dave's Insanity varieties that pour pure capsaicin in with the hot pepper mash to be okay and edible, but not one that I enjoy having just to say how hot a something I can ingest. I will say that I enjoy the Tabasco habanero sauce a lot, and I recently "upgraded" to their Scorpion Sauce which doesn't skimp when it comes to a really good flavor to go with some really intense heat; the best combination of both, actually.

Try zatarains if you can find it. Very good, well rounded sauce that’s my current kick.

Several years ago my older brother cross bred Tobasco peppers with Habanero peppers. Made a damn fine hot sauce, good flavor and heat. He called them T-Habs.

Agreed.

I have a door shelf dedicated to hot sauces in my fridge.
Tabasco - Soups/Stews
Crystal- Any Cajun jambalaya/gumbo dish, deer steaks, or grilled fish
Louisiana- Hot Tamales
Tapatio- Mexican
Sriracha- Stir Fry or Shish Kabob

If I had to grade on taste alone, Crystal would win although I wish it had just a little more kick.
Tabasco is what I would pick if I could only have one.

Valentina is another great one for Mexican food. I like that it has a thicker viscosity than most hot sauces. It's also dirt cheap. Used to be kind of hard to find, but I've seen it at Walmart in the past.

I quit using siracha since it would always dry up in the nozzle and so it was hard to control. Instead I use the chili garlic paste in a jar. Pretty much the same thing just not blended smooth into a sauce.

I’ve found this brand called “Pain is good” makes some phenomenal hot sauces. The jalapeño is a medium-mild green sauce that is awesome on an egg sandwich in the morning.
https://www.spicinfoods.com/pain-is-good-jalapeno-pepper-sauce.html

The habanero is delicious and will put some hair on your boys if overused. I make an avocado hummus with a touch of this, and it is fantastic for tailgating (or lately... housegating)
https://www.spicinfoods.com/most-wanted-pig-habanero-pepper-sauce.html

Both are ~$4-5 (depending on sales) in multiple groceries near Nashville.

If you're ever in the Lake Providence area with a little time

Stop by and visit these folks. Damn good hot sauce and a really nice gift shop right there of the premise.

https://panolapepper.com/

Also : If you're ever looking for a different kind of gift for someone they have gift baskets and boxes of their products. I used to buy a bunch of stuff from them to give to customers at Christmas...everybody loved them.

I don't think that many people want heat by itself. But at the same time, I'm not sure if the heat is distinguishable from the flavor in some circumstances. If I go to say a wingstop, the regular wings are better than the mild. Out of all the places I've been, I think their regular and mild taste the most similar, but at the same time, the regular is better. Not sure how to describe it other than to say the regular is a more intense version of the mild. But that's basically the mild with more heat.

SnL gave me this at Thanksgiving. So far I’ve used it to kick up the bbq sauces I make. It adds a really nice heat and flavor. A little goes a long way.

asian - chili garlic

lately ive been adding chopped serranos to damn near everything instead. sometimes its nice to taste an actual hot pepper instead of a sauce.

I'm a huge hot sauce person. Certain hot sauces go better with certain types of cuisines. My favorites: Cholula, Crystal, Frank's Buffalo Wing Sauce can be put on everything. I like to put it on omelets as well as my self proclaimed sixpack famous airfryer buffalo wings. Siracha is solid as well. Texas Pete has lots of flavor but not much spice. I like to put Texas Pete on tuna.

I'm going to try what you said is your favorite. I've never heard of The Pepper Plant before.

Can't go wrong with a $10 10 pack of hot sauce from Big Lots either***

I like the heat with the flavor. Sounds like you tolerate spicy food, but don't like it.

I usually go with Crystals on anything because I love the flavor. I only really like these for the flavor not heat, not a fan of super hot stuff. It must skip a generation because my mom and her brothers loved the hot stuff. I remember my uncles trying to out-hot each other but no one out do my Uncle Guy.

I can remember working in the garden in the scorching sun and watching him reach over and grab the super hot pepper right of the plant and chewing it up like candy without any water.
