Sitting here eating at my favorite crawfish place Mudbugs in Brandon having a beer, been thinking about traveling to NOLA and finding a crawfish place along the way. What are the packs thoughts on the best crawfish places?

Around here it’s Mudbugs and T’Beauxs for me. Rumor has it they use the same, or a very similar, recipe. Mudbugs owner’s ex-wife is kin to the T’Beauxs folks I believe.

Totally agree, I will just throw this out there but I hate the Crawdad Hole. Nothing personal to the people that run it, have no idea who they are, but it is bland. I love spicy crawfish.

That is correct. Mudbugs finishes it differently than T’Beauxs which separates it for me.

Go to Kenner LA right outside of New Orleans, go to Kenner Seafood. You can order crawfish by the pound and they dump them on the table on newspaper. They’re cooked the true Cajun way. Spicy and just perfect. You’ll thank me later. Best meal I’ve ever eaten.

How much is it per pound now?

I did not ask to be honest, I am sure too much. I didn’t care I just wanted a cold beer and some bugs. Being from south MS, I can remember 75 cents a pound off the dock in LA. So anything above a dollar is way too much for me.

Prices go down as the bugs size go up.
Usually that’s the case but I don’t usually start eating any until about mid-February anyway. Too small this time of year and even can be in February.
Mudbugs may be the best I’ve had in MS and in NOLA, Clesi’s in Mid-City does pretty good crawfish.

Yeah, I like it once it warms up a little outside. A nice 70 degree March Saturday with some cold beer and crawfish is a good day.

You are correct, sir, we ate at Kenner Seafood a few years ago when we were in town....$2 beer as you wait in the lobby and true cajun seafood, but it will light your *** up it's spicy AF....But, man, it's the best hands down....

What about Gil's in Ocean Springs? We bought some property down there and go down time to time to check on it and thought about trying it out since it's crawfish season...Anyone ate there before?

Too early for crawfish. I usually don’t start until first week of March. Sometimes end of February.

I personally like doing my own because I like them pretty spicy and I clean them really well.
Mudbugs are usually really good and so are tbeauxs. It’s all just high right now. I can remember back in the day getting them cooked from brewskis for 2.75 a lb. not sure what they charge now.
I also agree on Kenner seafood. Harbor Seafood in Kenner also has some of the best gumbo I’ve had. Cajuns in Long Beach used to be good 15 years ago but I haven’t been there in probably 10 years.

The best place in the entire state is Bozos in Pascagoula. I drive from Mobile and Poplarville to get it.

Used to be, but they have gone downhill the more well known they become and I’ve been going to Bozos my whole life. Best crawfish on the coast is Tarantos in Woolmarket..

Killer Crab does have good crawfish. I live in Gautier and it’s only like 10-mins from my house. Cool story because 2 local high school brothers started it and they have done well. I have only had their crawfish 2-3 times because I can’t not get the whole fried flounder when I go there - so good...

I disagree on the Crawfish House in OS. It’s about a block from my office in OS and we won’t go near that place for lunch after several times of giving them “another chance”.

Ride up to Woolmarket and try Taranto’s. It’s in the middle of nowhere and next to a trailer park, but the food is really good and have our favorite crawfish.

It’s the best isn’t it, man? Just truly one of those perfect hole in the walls. I love it. We go down at least once a year, just purely for that.

I know you can get good crawfish in north MS, but if you go down there and eat very often, the ones up here lose some luster..

Kenner would be perfect for a DDD episode.

OS born and raised, Biloxi native last 5 years. I love Taranto’s. Crawfish house has never done me bad but I also enjoy downtown OS so that might be what it is.

The worst batch I’ve ever had was at Killer Crab, I have to assume it was a bad batch, no spice just salt. I eat Crawfish House all the time during crawfish season, they’re usually pretty damn good, never had any problem with theirs except when they don’t cook the potatoes and corn with the crawfish which happens every now and then. Prices are finally down some this week, I got a 3lb platter from Crawfish House today, very good. Had to circle through the parking lot a couple times just to get a parking spot. It was packed all day but it was a really nice day today.

Another vote for Clesi’s in Mid-City (New Orleans). Had some today, actually. It was $9/pound, which is nuts, but not uncommon this early in the season, and I had to get my fix. Outside of some backyard boils where the spice levels are delightfully off the charts and you need Pepto on standby, Clesi makes the best in the city I’ve had. Doesn’t hold back on the spice but it’s not overpowering and the overall flavor is great. If you’re just looking to grab some on the run, market style, Bevi Seafood is very good, too, and does really good po-boys and daiquiris. They probably offer the best value. Clesi’s more of a sit down type place with a great patio. There are other places where you’ll get bugs for cheaper, but the step down in quality just isn’t worth it, to me.
