WBB Staring Down a 6 Game Losing Streak

I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but it’s looking like a very real possibility this WBB team could be staring down 6 losses in a row. Not sure the last time that happened. We are 3 down so far after Alabama, A&M, and SC. Up next.....TN, AR, and OM. The way TN and AR played (and beat) UCONN, I’d say it’s a long shot for MSU to hang with either of them. And that last game with OM could have actually gone OM’s way depending on a bounce here or there. Pretty sure tonight’s loss to SC will move MSU out of the top 25 rankings. Seems like we have all the pieces to be a really good team, but they don’t fit together at the moment.

During the middle of a lockdown Pandemic situation of all things. We are MState. Guess we just aren't allowed to have nice things, at least not for long.

Is this the fastest freefall in college WBB history?

(Designed to be rhetorical, but women's hoops historians are welcome to weigh in.)

This was a preseason Top 10 team and I’m not sure we even finish .500 in conference play. There’s no real justification for this team being so bad. Just a massive failure by all involved.

I’d like to know the chain of events but Vic ain’t talking unless Cohen was to start publicly dissing him and I still don’t think you’d ever get a word out of Vic. But there was no “letting” him walk. The man loved the dawgs but he LOVES Texas. He was going back come hell or high water. We just figured it’d be to aTm, guessing he got an indication from Gary Blair that retirement was further on down the road. I’m guessing the Texas job came open and and he decided he’d rather deal with Baylor than South Carolina on a yearly basis from the comfort of a state he loved.

We’ll never know but I just have a feeling it wasn’t a big confrontation. I doubt he was actively looking to move on. I’m guessing he got the the offer, talked it over with the family, prayed on it and went to bed. Then woke up and felt like it was the right thing at the right time. He got Cohen and Keenum together, told them he appreciated the opportunity, was proud of what we accomplished together, but I’m going to Texas. Good luck gentlemen, wiped a tear away with his tie and he walked out the door.

I really don’t think there was a dollar figure they could have thrown out there that would have made a difference. If there was anything ill willed about the whole situation is I imagine he was extremely disappointed that Johnnie wasn’t given the opportunity to build on what they had done together. Looking more and more like that was our loss and Texas’s gain.

I just think he made the decision with Blair in mind not himself. What's better for her future? Answer that honestly and it no longer becomes some big mystery or conspiracy as to why Vic took the Texas job instead of staying at the MSU job.

I’ve saw several mentions about Blair being part of the decision the last several months. Unless it’s something extremely personal what exactly is that referring to. How does the father choosing one school over another affect his 23-25yo old daughter? Wasn’t she interested in some type entertainment reporter? I know she did an internship with Entertainment Tonight while still playing and that was from Starkville, MS, so I don’t see his location being much of a hinderance in what an ambitious, hardworking, very attractive young lady young college graduate is going to do with the rest of her life.

Anyone here that can explain that?

Hate to spoil it for ya but Vic didn't want to leave.

A&M was never going to be in the discussion. Gary Blair & A&M screwed him a while ago...

Dig deeper into The Idiot Cohen & his woke wife... The Cohen fami5 has set the Athletic Department back 10-15 years and WBB will never be back ..

Nice job Cohen. When are YOU gonna be held responsible for all your 17 screw ups?

Looking at you Keenum... U r WEAK AS WATER...

Not sure where the blame falls on the team’s struggles, but I think it’s fair to expect that the team was gonna take a step back with a new coach, new assistants, and a new system. I know Danberry was.a huge part of MSU’s success last year as well, so her absence and Bibby’s and the UConn transfer certainly aren’t helping us. But it’s clear other teams coaches can see we aren’t the team we used to be. Both Blair at A&M and Staley made remarks in their post game to the effect that “this” wasn’t Mississippi State basketball and NMP would get us back to playing competitively. I just hope they can get it figured out soon.

Blair is on his staff at Texas. She's going down the coaching path it appears not the Entertainment Tonight path and Austin metro has over 2,200,000 people compared to Oktibbeha county's 49,500. Some might say "so what" but it ain't so what if you're a single recent grad with a locally very famous dad whose also your boss. Her potential dating pool in Starkville is lower than Cam Matthews FT%.

Maybe, but Notre Dame has taken an equally big free fall. To think the two of us were in the NC game 3 years ago. . . .

A lot of better coaching opportunities in Texas than in Mississippi. I think he actually made mention of this one home. Also, Logan is in Texas. I'm sure he wanted to be near him.

Yea, they were going on a cruise for Christmas until Blair decided to come home for Christmas.

The problem isn’t that they took a step back, it’s that they took several MASSIVE steps back. And a roster that is filled with talented players looks like it’s about to be blown up and we are going to be in rebuilding mode. There was nothing about the program Vic left behind that suggested a major rebuild was necessary.

And while Danberry was good, let’s not make her out to be some irreplaceable force. We lost Victoria Vivians and won the SEC and were a 1 seed again the following year. We lost Teaira McCowan and Anriel Howard and still had a Top 10-15 team last year. You mean to tell me that the players we lost from last year are the difference in this being a good roster and a bad roster? No way. I’m not convinced those players wouldn’t have regressed under Nikki also.

You just got b**** slapped by 23 at home and this is what you say about it. "I feel like we're moving in the right direction" WHAAAAAT!!! Then this, " For us this is a new season. Yes, we didn't get the win but we have to be us." What in the HELL does that even mean! I maybe could understand this somewhat if we were at least semi-competitive. We have now embarrassed ourselves now in three consecutive games, four if you count the UM squeaker, and we are 'moving in the right direction', OK whatever Nikki.

You sure do have some weird obsession with Blair. I’m beginning to think that you’re the reason Vic left. So he could get Blair away from her stalker.

Hmm, didn’t know she had followed in her dad’s footsteps. She has his intensity, she needs to find her guy then come back here and coach

This is no “step”. It’s the distance of an international flight. And there’s something going on that NMP needs to get control of but I have no faith in her to get it done. You don’t have the star power of players that are on our team and no one makes a basket, no one rebounds, no one has energy, passion, tenacity, grit, and fight in them. This is a culture problem she’s created. She’s got to go, but she won’t be fired due to obvious optics. I’d rather start from scratch with zero talent than suffer through another year of this shitshow.

Here's the deal. This is the second time Cohen has taken a program that was humming, and totally screwed up the engine. The easiest and most correct hire in the world to make was Johnnie Harris, especially with COVID happening. We needed continuity. He out-thought himself again, just like the football hire in 2017. He went and hired a system coach which apparently didn't jive with the current players, which costs you 1, maybe 2 years most of the time, sometimes even 3. Just incredibly stupid. In this day and age, there is no sense in doing that unless the program is rock bottom.

I don't judge him for Mullen/Vic leaving, but I absolutely judge him on the idiotic hires made to replace them. We fixed football but wasted a few years doing it, so we need some make up years just to get to zero again.

Best thing for Blair would be to get out from under her father and start making a name for herself.

In nature, the chicks have to ultimately spread their wings and fly the nest. Otherwise, they get pushed out; they either fly or crash and burn. So why in Vic's case, does his career and future revolve on a mid-20's daughter who by the way has a college degree?

Can't really teach how to develop a P5 program into a top 10 one annually if it already is one.
