Howland teams always have turnover issues

Why is that? I never feel confident in his teams taking care of the rock well. I’m always hoping it won’t be a 20+ turnover game. I don’t remember any less then 10 turnover games under Howland.

They ALWAYS come at the worst possible time in horrible fashion. A bunch of them come right after the other team turns it over. We seems to never capitalize on other teams mistakes. While other teams seem to always capitalize on our mistakes. It’s so frustrating, because we make some routine plays look hard. Would love for Howland to atleast get a decent assistant coach that really knows how to teach fundamentals.

The only sec team to avg less than 10 TOs/game in the last decade is Florida '17-'18. We're actually tied for 4th in the sec with Bama and vandy for least TOs/game this season.

This game is obviously too stressful for you to watch. A game without turnovers is a game played at a snails pace with numerous shot clock violations. You might be surprised if you actually checked the league statistics on turnovers.

Don’t let facts get in the way here

Some of it is Howland's desire to play inside out. We will make some bad entry passes to the post from weird angles or force it. Then post players tend to turn it over at a higher rate. Look at a team like Villanova that will play a lot of 4 out, 1 in. I've seen them play an entire half without a turnover.

This team needs a transfer 2 guard so Stewart can play the 3 guard position.

Numerous shot clock violations = turnovers, so then there would be turnovers in a game without turnovers.

Sure, if there is a turnover with 15 seconds left when you are down 3, then thats bad timing. But all turnovers are bad timing. One with 15min left in that game is bad timing too. If 3pts are scored off that early turnover and the team is down 3 at the end of the game, then there ya go. It just doesn't seem like as bad a turnover at the time to some fans.

This team isn't terrible with turnovers. 169th in the country in turnovers and average just 2 more turnovers than teams in the topic nationally.

It isnt a great stat, but its hardly some epic disaster stat.

Yeah. Our bigs clog the lane which disrupts our ability to penetrate. Stewart and Molinar are best off the dribble. Additionally our offense has always been just a ton of dribbling regardless of who we have.

id love to see us go with Tolu, smith, stewart, Molinar and johnson ar stretches. Did Johnson get hurt yesterday?

There are people in Upward basketball that can teach fundamentals.

Missing the front end of a 1 and 1 should count towards the turnover stat.

Missing two free throws, in a row, like we continue to do, should result in a suspension...... Player and coach.

it feels like a freaking epic disaster. This team doesn’t value to rock. Lazy passes al over the place. Couldn’t careless about the actual stats. I know what I’m seeing on the court here

I think the turnover story is worse than just one statistic. We turn the ball over on 19.6% of our possessions, which is 213th in the country. That’s not good, but then if you look at tempo, we are 312th out of 357 meaning we are one of the slowest playing teams in the country. When you have fewer possessions to work with, the turnovers are magnified.

For context, Villanova plays even slower than we do, but they only turn it over 11.8% of the time, best in the country. Virginia is the slowest team in the country, but only turns it over 13.2%.

The right people should be encouraging Howland to retire every day.

True, when the pace is slower, each possession and therefore each turnover is magnified. Its difficult to come from behind with a slow tempo/less possession team too.
Good point.

We must be awful offensively, but yet, kenpom has us 68th offensively out of 357 teams. Is this bad?

We arnt a bad shooting team. Mostly high% shots.
But that stat is subjective and doesn’t paint a full picture in depicting ben’s artwork or the players and the continued stinkers and questionmarks. How much longer are we going to spray paint the lips of this Poke chop?

Seriously, how long are we bound to him

Like a few have said, if we are going to play the Howland brand..and win..we will need to have at least 3 NBA players on the floor at once.....two ain’t cutting it.
