I really think this team is gonna be special next year. Fire away
I really think this team is gonna be special next year
Is this a bumped post from 2018? 2019?
Next year they should be better than they are this year. But special? Nah. Losing Ado is going to hurt us more than people realize.
The core of this team is in the freshmen and sophomore classes, so I am looking more at 2022-2023 as a potential special year IF we can keep this group together a couple more years. That’s obviously a huge if, as is the head coaching position. I am not sure Howland is still here in two years if we miss the tourney next year, which I think is very possible.
I want to believe next year could be special.....unless someone gets into the ears of Molinar and Stewart and convinces them they are NBA draft picks then we are back to square one for the umpteenth 17ing time.

I like Howland but I’m ready to make a change. Our offense drives me crazy. It’s all about one on 5 basketball.

Not sure if he will, but ado can come back
I'm with you on the change but it's scary to think who Cohen would hire. He would talk about a coach with final four experience then he would hire the second bench coach at Va TechI like Howland but I’m ready to make a change. Our offense drives me crazy. It’s all about one on one basketball.
I think we will be marginally better next year but I don't see Howland and staff ever having a 'special' team at MSU. At least nothing like we saw in 1996 or 2004. I think our 2019 team will be the peak of what we will ever get under Howland and that team didn't even get an NCAA tournament win as a 5 seed. I do think next year's team will have a shot at an NCAA bid though.

If we fired Howland after this season (which we aren't), then why does anybody think a HC, or an up and coming assistant coach who we may think is a better HC, or could be a better HC than Howland is, would want to come here under those circumstances?
I honestly think we have the makings of a really good team but it needs some adjustments. Better passing, ball handling, free throw shooting, and just game intelligence would be key to taking us to the next step.
Most of those would be solved with a good PG. Right now Stewart and Molinar have to create a shot with the ball in their hand or try to find Tulu. We have a PG that is going to be pretty good but Devon still makes A LOT of freshmens mistakes, so either we take our lumps playing him or get a transfer. Devon shows some real potential so I'm leaning towards him playing a lot and just living with the mistakes since we aren't going to get a seed above 5 in the NCAA even if we run the table. I would run him at the 1 with Stewart, Molinar, Tulu, and Ado and take the mistakes Devon would make.
I see lots of posts complaining about Howland's subbing practices but he has too much POTENTIAL talent on the bench not to play them several minutes each game. I know he is sucking *** right now but I really believe Matthews will be a critical part of our team next year.
Free throws, passing, and game sense are all about confidence and game experience.
My two cents.
Hopefully, we would put feelers out gauging the interest in our HC position before we fired Howland.
