Long story short I’m about to take a severance package from a company I’ve been with for 16 years. That said do we have anyone on this board that could help me with getting one? I’m in no rush so a couple months to a year doesn’t bother me. Also is it worth it? Any tips would be appreciated!

Yep. Not trying to discourage you but there are ~2000 agents in the Jackson metro area and only about 600 homes for sale. It is ridiculously tough out there right now if you don't have a pipeline.

My sister got her license in AL and FL about 4-years ago. She is not a “go getter”, but is not lazy either - and she also has my nieces to juggle with her husband and his job. Realtors are a dime a dozen and you need to have an “in” or have an established friend that will kick you scraps to help you get your name out there, if you expect to make a quick income.

My sister didn’t have that person. She is just now beginning to make money. I think she was involved in maybe 15 transactions in her first 3-years in the business and her cut on each wasn’t that much.

Not sure if the builders are big enough in your area, but in cities like Dallas and Houston, the builders have their own sales force. Non licensed, but salary and commission usually.

Selling new construction for the next few years would be about as easy as it could ever get. Leads and inventory come to you.

Yep. If you're going to work real estate, be prepared to work your *** off. I have some friends who are very successful. And then there's my ex-wife. She closed maybe 4-5 deals in 2 years before we divorced.

There are many realtors in Flowood/Madison who are doing, very, very well. Although there many realtors who do put much effort in (soccer moms mostly), if you hustle, you can do very well. Heck, I know one who doesn't hustle, has a bad personality and still does well.
