Ok since I did play here's what I see.

I see 2 good ball handlers already (Molinar and DSmith) who basically have to create something out of nothing because there isn't a system for them to thrive in. When they are looking to get people involved, players aren't moving and you have some guys just standing stiff legged, hanging out in their spot without any intention. We have another rangy guard who can shoot but isn't a good ball handler (Stewart) that can sometimes mask the inefficiency of the offense by hitting pull up mid range jumpers. In turn we end up blaming these guards as not good when the cards are stacked against them from the start.

When the above doesn't happen I see a forced pass to a big down low who's trying to battle for position and if the pass gets to him he's quickly doubled and hardly ever finds the open man because no one is moving to get in an open passing lane. So when the guy down low attempts to kick it out or pass it and it gets batted away or stolen we end up blaming the big for a bad pass.

I see a team that doesn't switch up defenses to confuse teams. I see a poor footwork on help defense coming off top of the key ball screens.

I've seen the same things happen on every team of his, even when he has NBA players.

Sooooo, are you busy for the next few months or so? Would you mind being an interiam coach? Because you see some things our coach doesn't.

It was a really odd game.

OM's defense was aggressive and fast. Ours did that a few times but was otherwise...meh average.

OM outrebounded the 17 outta MSU.

MSU ball handling was less than impressive and OM swiped away at least half a dozen on us.

Tolu logged minutes, but did he play?he had 10pts, but man he was invisible.

It's not the team. It's our philosophy. Our pace sucks. We played right into their hands tonight.

I'd bet if we pushed pace instead of trying to play half court basketball against the best half court defense in the league we would have won this game by 20 points. That's not on the players.

When they did push the ball, it was largely out of control. Just riding on the edge of chaos, really.

On the rebounding advantage, that surprised me. Especially with Romello White missing a lot of time. The biggest thing I noticed was when y’all started doubling Shuler off a screen or off a catch, and then the ball rotated or was shot, the two defenders that doubled him got really lazy in recovery and attacking the glass. So it gave Ole Miss a lot of cheap rebounds on the back side. It was just effort or a lack of attention to detail, one. Maybe some of both.

This is a pretty accurate description of what we have and what we look like. No movement and forced shots. No real offensive threat on the post. Everyone we play should play zone against us.

Truth.

Every team should press after baskets and play zone against us until we break down both schemes and score a few in a row due to breaking them. Then go back to man until the next timeout and come out of the timeout again playing zone.

It confuses the 17 out of the team. Ado is in the high post asking for the ball and is largely ignored since he isnt a legitimate threat from there he doesnt put stress on the zone. Matthews on the wing doesnt make the zone shift over because its Matthews on the wing. The ball just ends up moving back and forth near the top a few times and then a high screen does no good since its a zone and the ball handler just gets doubled at that point.

If a team plays zone and presses for most of the game, we will turn it over 10 times trying to bring the ball up court and almost all our points will come from whatever we can make contested from deep.

We never "pushed" the ball. The only time we picked up pace was when Ole Miss went to their half-court traps and sped us up. They dictated the pace of the game on both ends of the floor. We never put any consistent pressure on their defense. The only time we looked remotely adequate on offense was when they went man.

We are getting blown out on our home court by a rival who was 1-4 in conference play coming in, and we needed this game badly for our postseason chances.

It is the definition of a horrible loss.

☝🏻Is the correct answer. If Ole Miss had made a bunch of contested 3’s and win it by 3-5 points with both teams scoring in the 60’s, okay. But that is not what happened. State lost to the arch rival by 18 on its home floor. State got out hustled on its home floor. Out-rebounded on its home floor. Scored a total of 5 points (1 made free throw and 2 baskets) in the last 10 minutes of the game!!! Not only horrible but probably one of the most embarrassing home losses in program history. State has had worse losses but not more embarrassing ones.

Let the Volleyball team use the Hump and make both Basketball teams play games in the Sanderson Center!****
