Ole Miss sucks, but we looked like we wanted to play. MSU didn’t. I don’t have a clue why, but a weird game. These games with no fans are so strange, especially in rivalry games.

It’s the Howland way. I could care less that it’s Ole miss. It’s just not a good basketball team and Howland finds a ways to constantly lose to teams like them.

And nothing will come of it. We're stuck with this type of team for the duration of the Howland era

This is the most inexcusable performance in Howland’s time here. We are getting worked by a sorry, sorry team on our home court in a game we absolutely couldn’t afford to lose.

Howland teams are incapable of sustaining any kind of momentum. At a certain point you start asking why even bother being invested in this?

Yeah. As frustrating and mediocre as he is, he consistently does just enough to not make it worth it to fire him.

It’s not a horrible loss.

We are getting blown out on our home court by a rival who was 1-4 in conference play coming in, and we needed this game badly for our postseason chances.

It is the definition of a horrible loss.

This team, and really all Howland teams just beat you down as a fan. You know that no matter what they do a shitshow is just around the corner. It makes it really hard to care.

I'm not Ole Miss obsessive, but I think it irks more that Howland seems to pull this garbage the most against Ole Miss (and especially Kermit).

It's a bad loss.

I'm not getting too bent out of shape about it though bc I never had tourney expectations this year. We just lost way too much. I wanted an NIT spot, and that's still possible if we don't fall apart after this extremely tough stretch we about to start. I think we have a shot to be really good next season.

The middle of the conference is a bunch evenly matched teams. Don’t fool yourself, we’re not that much better than them.

We don't have a very smart basketball fan base. We just beat a team Saturday that destroyed #7 tonight. This league is unpredictable

It's not the team. It's our philosophy. Our pace sucks. We played right into their hands tonight.

I'd bet if we pushed pace instead of trying to play half court basketball against the best half court defense in the league we would have won this game by 20 points. That's not on the players.

What happened tonight was pretty predictable. Expected, even. At least for the "smart" ones of the fan base.

I don’t wanna heap on any more than already has been but holy 17! We cannot put together two wins in a row to save our life. And no matter how many times we play OM, it’s like it’s the first time we’ve seen that 2-3 zone. C’mon Ben.

We tried playing up tempo in this game, and we were totally out of control

I'm sure everyone predicted us beating Florida Saturday too. I'm sure everyone saw Bama winning at LSU by 32 tonight. I'm sure everyone saw Florida destroying Tennessee down another starter. This league is crazy

Howland's losses to inferior teams has become habitual. We never play more than 2 good games in a row. He 17ing sucks and this is the way it will be until We give a **** enough to make a better hire.

Oh for sure. Its definitely the system. Our guys have no idea how to move on offense, how to position themselves, how to work within a system because they've never been taught or been held accountable in practice. We stay in one base defense (man) and never try to switch up anything because Howland only plays one way.

This is the fourth year in a row where we have totally laid an egg against an Ole Miss team that is not as good as us. We all should’ve seen it coming.

Where did you play? Can you tell me what you see on the court and describe it for us?

I must've dreamt watching Molinar walk the ball up the court most of the game - particularly in the first half. I guess I was watching a different game.

I see a team that lacks a good ball handler at the point. I keep hoping d. Smith takes the step forward we need to get to this lineup...

D. Smith
Molinar
Stewart
T. Smith
Ado

And no, I'm in no way an X and O basketball guy, but I watch enough to know that this league is tough, and games are highly unpredictable.

I see we have a solid, not great coach. We pay bottom of the sec, no fan support, old facilities, and fertile recruiting base. I just don't see how firing howland is a smart decision.

We played it for a stretch, and we turned the ball over like 3 straight times. We had to slow down

We must be in worse shape than I thought. I knew we were crap in the 1/2 court set, but now I guess we are crap in the up-tempo too.
Can anyone find a loophole for getting defensive points? A basketball “Safety” maybe?

Well it may not be a horrible loss but it's certainly a bad one. Bad shots, turnovers, poor defense and still don't know how to beat a zone. If I'm an opposing coach I play zone on us every time, we can't beat it. I know everyone is a fan of Ado but I'm not. He's 6'10 250 with the worst hands in basketball. Passing the ball to him is a big mistake every time. He's not a big rebounder, can't score, can't catch a pass, for some unknown reason after 4 years still brings the ball down low and almost never powers up to dunk. Not blaming him for this loss that's all on Howland but he's no help either.

Ok since I did play here's what I see.

I see 2 good ball handlers already (Molinar and DSmith) who basically have to create something out of nothing because there isn't a system for them to thrive in. When they are looking to get people involved, players aren't moving and you have some guys just standing stiff legged, hanging out in their spot without any intention. We have another rangy guard who can shoot but isn't a good ball handler (Stewart) that can sometimes mask the inefficiency of the offense by hitting pull up mid range jumpers. In turn we end up blaming these guards as not good when the cards are stacked against them from the start.

When the above doesn't happen I see a forced pass to a big down low who's trying to battle for position and if the pass gets to him he's quickly doubled and hardly ever finds the open man because no one is moving to get in an open passing lane. So when the guy down low attempts to kick it out or pass it and it gets batted away or stolen we end up blaming the big for a bad pass.

I see a team that doesn't switch up defenses to confuse teams. I see a poor footwork on help defense coming off top of the key ball screens.

I've seen the same things happen on every team of his, even when he has NBA players.

I didn't see us play uptempo at all...where we put pressure on their defense. I saw Ole Miss speed us up on a couple of consecutive possessions when they half court trapped and turned us over. I saw a couple of times where we tried to drive against their zone and turned it over. I didn't see us pushing the ball up the court with pace and putting pressure on their defense at all. Not one single trip. But again, maybe I watched a different game.

Team rankings has us 58th out of 347 in offensive efficiency and 4th in sec

Kenpom has our offense 64th out of 357 and 5th in sec

This has happened multiple times over the last several years. At some point we need to sit players until they can give an effort that is deserving of wearing a jersey with Ms State on it. I hold our staff and players all accountable for playing when it just feels like it’s time
