So it appears that Dave dared to have a Christmas party and not require masks, which should be punishable by death, I guess. Anyhow, it has got some attention for Ramsey, and a bunch of former disgruntled employees have let some stories out. The thing is, if you have ever listened to him, his podcasts, or read his books, you know that he has a zero tolerance for office gossip, and fires people immediately for that. So he has quite a few disgruntled employees in the Nashville area.

One enterprising freelance reporter decided he was going to pull the curtain back and expose the evil Dave Ramsey. This was Ramsey's PR response. I have a feeling he had a hand in this response.

I also have a feeling he helped as well, because it was clearly written by a thin-skinned *******.

That’s fantastic

If you’ve ever seen any of his clips on YouTube, he does get a little pissed when people are dumb or even just disagree with him and can come across like a prick, but he’s also got a sense of humor, see this email for an example. He’d fit in on the pack, except he’s a TN fan, so he must be a clay Travis loving idiot.

Seems a common response to any questioning or criticism is to equate that with accusing him of being a bad, evil person. That doesn't seem like a mental health issue at all. **

Demanding to interview the spouse of potential new employees is aggressively cult-like behavior.

That is weird. James Franklin does a visual interview of potential new hires’ spouses or girlfriends to judge the potential hire’s confidence levels.

I interviewed for a job w/ U.S. Government not long after Hurricane Katrina. Total time from applying till chosen for the job, over 6 months. Multiple drug tests, interview in Jackson, 2 interviews in Memphis, had to submit bank account numbers from then to as far back as I could supply them. Had to submit information about grandparents, siblings, etc. Interviewer who was former DEA helicopter pilot who had been based in Columbia (the country not MS) flying drug interdiction came to my house and sat asking questions in my kitchen for over 2 hours. Asked several times for items I had to go pull from my home office files and every time I came back he was up walking around in a different room looking around. When he left he asked if any of my neighbors might be home? I told him of a few that were retired and could possible be and he went walking and knocking on doors. I don't know if any of it was crossing the line but was definitely the most thorough interview I have EVERY been through. After all that, I turned it down because they were going to send me to Gulfport where there were very few places to live, eat, etc because of Katrina and I wasn't going to take my family to that, plus, there was a 12 month probation period and the money was not good enough during that probation time to even cover living in and traveling to and from Gulfport had I taken a camper and lived in it by myself.

It is really creepy, but I can think of several situations off hand where an unstable spouse (one time just partner) managed to cause employees to not work out. In no way do I want to interview spouses, but I get how the idea would at least occur.

Of course, come to think of it, I think a lot of places do informally interview spouses as part of the recruitment. If the spouse is invited to come along to dinner or they offer to arrange a tour of schools or whatever, I think mainly that's recruiting, but they are probably noting if the spouse is an asset or a liability if the employee is asked to do things like attend fund raisers and social events as a representative of the company.

More of a control freak than cult like.

He has a culture and he wants to keep it. His business, his rules.

Anytime you align with Christianity you WILL be criticized without mercy, every time you screw up. And let it be known, we ALL will absolutely screw up from time to time. I went back and read the original story, and really the only thing I have a problem with is whether they covered up the Chris Hogan stuff. And it does seem a little cultish, but it is what it is.

I do subscribe to his teachings for the most part, outside of some extreme circumstances. They aren't rocket science, so ignore them at your own peril. I do use a credit card for regular, budgeted expenses and pay it off for the rewards. I have bought real estate when I couldn't afford it before, but it was always my primary residence and I had done my research on what I thought the future held for the area. But GENERALLY his plan is pretty foolproof and what everybody should do and provides the quickest route to financial freedom.

Yeah. And not even close to complying with employment laws.

It seems like it, but I'm not exactly sure what law it violates off hand.

Is eschewing crazy spouses discriminating based on familial status? Not sure what Tennessee's law is on that, but even if familial status is protected, I think it's probably a valid argument (although not one I'd want to rely on) that a cray or unlikeable spouse is not familial status and they are not discriminating based on whether somebody is married or not or have kids or not. Might run into some issues with disability law if they are nixing potential employees because of spouses and the spouses have diagnosed mental health issues they can claim caused them to rub the interviewers the wrong way.

I guess in states where it is illegal to use employment to regulate legal activities of employees (California I think has this rule), then having a crazy or unlikeable spouse would qualify as legal behavior that is protected.

A place I used to work in Louisiana paid weekly, every Thursday. I have no idea why.

Every week one or two of one guys baby momma's would show up. They knew if they didn't he would be broke by Sunday and they wouldn't get their money.

Oh damn- premarital sex is against company policy and you can be fired for it?

“We have people calling in, they are wanting to cancel stuff for a live event in May — let me tell you how much of your money I am going to give you back if you don’t come for the coronavirus in May,” he said. “ZERO. I am keeping your money. You are a wuss.”
Plugging a “Live Like No One Else” cruise, scheduled for late March, Ramsey said he would go on the cruise, even if he was there “by my freaking self.” The cruise was later canceled.

In July 2020, Caitlin O’Connor, a former Ramsey Solutions employee, sued the company, claiming she had been fired after requesting maternity leave in the summer of 2020. According to the lawsuit, O’Connor emailed Lopez, the human resources chief, on June 18, 2020, asking for accommodations under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act because she was 12 weeks pregnant.
A week later, after meeting with two members of Ramsey’s operating board, O’Connor was fired for being pregnant and not married, according to the lawsuit. Board members and Lopez told her it was because she had violated the company’s code of conduct.
The lawsuit claims the company’s “righteous living” core value “discriminates against employees who do not strictly adhere to Ramsey’s interpretation of ‘Judeo-Christian’ values for non-work related behavior.”
Ramsey’s lawyers denied any discrimination. “Defendant admits that Plaintiff’s employment was terminated because she engaged in premarital sex,” which the company’s court filings said is a violation of its core values.
The day after news of the lawsuit broke, Ramsey defended the company’s policies during the company’s regular Wednesday “devo” meeting, a mandatory all-company chapel service.
Ramsey told employees that the policies were necessary to maintain a predictable, safe and “godly” culture. Without them, he said, Ramsey would be just like any other company, a “cesspool” of sex and racism and #MeToo complaints. Sex outside of marriage is wrong, he told employees, according to a recording obtained by RNS.

Dave is the AA for people who handle money as well as alcoholics handle booze. Getting rid of payments has done me a world of good. But at the same time I can't take it with me and I want a boat so damn bad. And i don't want to wait till I am 60 to get one. I am really tempted.

You can’t ask any questions about a prospective employees spouse. Federal law. And you’re right, there many cases where a crazy spouse could affect job performance. The Feds don’t care.

How about in a security clearance investigation? I'll bet the spouses are looked into rather closely.

Sen. Tuberville's wife didn't like the fact that Oxford only had one grocery store, or at least that's what I heard at the time.
