Heard an old WWII story along those lines one time from a B-24 pilot. His squadron was stationed in Jacksonville for training. Every morning they would fly along the pan handle coast to Mobile Bay and practice bomb runs. Navy ships in Mobile Bay didn't like being the target of simulated runs so they would train their guns and track the bombers. The pilot told me that pissed them off so one day he and his crew loaded 500lbs of flour into their bomb bay and painted one of the destroyers white on their next run. By the time he landed, word had reached the navy in Jacksonville and he was called into his CO's office where a rep from the navy was waiting. He said his CO crawled his *** like he'd never had it crawled before or after. When the navy guy was satisfied it had been handled, he left. After the navy guy left, the pilot said his CO came over to him, shook his hand and said "Good job!" That act got him an invite to fly bootleg whiskey to some officer's club. He didn't accept that because he was told if he did that and got caught then he would be hung out to dry unlike what happened when he flour bombed the destroyer.
