State up 9 late in the 1st half. Matharu just went to the locker room with what appeared to be a high ankle sprain.

oh yeah

No doubt. It’s a little ridiculous how bad they’ve missed some of the calls. I mean, it was an airball , but let’s not review that call.

Very unimpressed by the lady dogs. Despite the win, it’s the worst showing of the year. They seem to have regressed. No movement on offense and out of position frequently on defense. Very disappointed in this game.

We’re better than we played. Nobody will remember this game in a week. Only thing to do is get better and move on.

The loss to Kentucky may have caused some malaise. They've scored almost twice tonight's points in games earlier this year (against easier opponents, but still).

I could see this being a difficult game to get players up for. Sandwiched in between two big home games, on the road, against a team we beat by 40 last year. This is not new for this group, they really struggled on the road with Vandy and Auburn last year and took a bad home loss to Bama.

They don’t have the same killer instinct yet that the 2017-2019 teams had, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get there . This is still a fairly inexperienced team, almost zero postseason experience.

At the end of the day we have two overtime losses to ranked teams and are winning road games in spite of not playing well. Don’t think the situation is nearly as dire as some are making it.

This is still a pretty young team, only 2 seniors (Yemiyah Morris & Caterrion Thompson) and they transferred in. Couple that with a new coaching staff and a non-standard offseason and you’re going to have some bumpy nights.

This team’s core is really the sophomores and juniors. This year, there are going to be some letdowns, especially compared to the past few seasons, but this team should make some noise for the next few years. If we’re still unable to close out games in 2023, then we might have some legitimate gripes.

Vic got beat at home by freaking Alabama last year. Everybody take a breath and give this team some time to grow.

This team isn't any worse than last years team.

It's almost like many of our fans are pretending last season never happened and think this is the same group that won 33+ games in three straight seasons.

As talented as our roster may be, their inconsistencies are nothing new. They were very up and down at times under Vic last year.

This team is better than last years team but they aren’t playing like it. Last years team seemed to play closer to their ability, at least most nights. This years team seems unprepared and uninspired. Individually the players look better at times but the team doesn’t look great at all.

I think you can attribute a lot of that to losing Danberry and Bibby though.

Danberry was really the engine that drove the defense last year. She was really the last 'Vic' styled defensive player that harassed point guards into making mistakes or made opportunistic steals. Mingo-Young could get there, but now we're comparing a sophomore to a 5th/6th year senior, so of course there's going to be a drop off.

We also don't have the same spot shooters like we had during those 2016-2019 runs. Blair, Roshunda Johnson, Vivians, Espinoza-Hunter, and Bibby are all gone. We don't have a crop of shooters that set up for a spot and let it go. That trend started downward two years ago and sunk lower last year (130 made 3's in 19-20 vs 185 in 18-19 vs 278 in 17-18).

Since we don't have those shooters, we don't have motions/plays that set up situations to get them open. That leads to a lot more one on one/street ball/drive the lane possessions, which look like standing around. I'm NOT saying that's better. I'm saying that's the reality of the situation right now.

Our best shooters are Jackson, Cooks, and Matharu. 9 out of 10, Jackson is going to drive and put up a contested shot instead of shoot from the outside. Matharu is a really good shooter, but you can see her visibly second guess herself on some open looks. I'm not sure why Cooks isn't scoring more or putting up more shots. She's statistically our best 3PT threat. That could lend itself to what you're saying. Is it that we don't have the plays to setup shooters because we don't have shooters or do we not have shooters because we don't have plays to set them up?

ETA: Last year's team had some pretty major letdowns against some bad opponents. Lost to a not very good WV at home. Had problems with a sub-.500 Auburn team (twice). Lost to a not very good Alabama team at home. They also lost to Kentucky, the same team that made some of you on this board and on Twitter want to burn mattresses and fire NMP last week.

I am sure I will get called an old fart, but I noticed last night that as soon as the game was over the cell phones came out and our girls started mugging for the pictures to put on the intrawebs and high fiving the coach. I personally would rather see a team that seemed at least a little upset about playing like garbage (besides Jessika Carter).

Now you kids get off my lawn.

That’s 100% untrue. I just rewatched the end of the game to verify. Not a single player had a phone out and the only camera was the one by the Mississippi State marketing team, recording the post game huddle, where they mildly celebrated a double digit mid week conference win. You can see the video of this on their Twitter account where NMP says we play “you know who” next.

What are they supposed to do? Hang their heads in shame and feel like **** about winning a mid week conference game by double digits and not high five their coach?

Ok, I’ll get off your lawn now.
