I believe South Carolina has spoken to Arnett as well.

You guys better go ahead and get the thread started on who will be the next DC. Yall should've known this was going to happen about 10 seconds after we beat Mizzou. We don't get nice things around here.

Shouldn't have let the plane land. **

Presumably Cohen has enough money to pay whatever it takes to keep him, so maybe he should use it. Unless he has to save it to pay players ....

If I was Arnett I would be insulted they couldn't meet with me somewhere other than the air port.

Haha no kidding. I can’t blame the guy for listening to people when they come to talk but man it gets old when literally every program with a new coach is coming after him.

I was thinking the same. Losing a staff member to ND or Texas is one thing; losing one to South Carolina is shameful.

For those of you Johnny Come Lately's, THIS kind of wit is what this site was built on.

THIS is Sixpack cool.
So you’re the authority on cool now?

Imagine hating a message board and it’s posters and still actively participate on said message board.

According to flight Aware the USCe twin turboprop (cheapskates) was on the ground in Starkville for a little over 3 hours then headed back to Columbia. For what its worth it was in OK, City Saturday but for only an hour.

Should have known 10 seconds after we hired him after he’d been on the job at Syracuse for like 2 weeks that this was going to happen. He probably even had feelers out to leave before he ever coached a single game for us.

MSU will absolutely never hang on to good coordinators longer than 1 or 2 years, because nobody is ever hiring an MSU DC or OC to a big time head coaching job. Yet another reason why we won’t ever win a natty in football....coaching continuity is always going to be nonexistent.

Bama doesn’t hang on to coordinators either.

You are right, but they usually get more time with them than we do, and they always move up to HC jobs as opposed to making lateral moves.
As much as I don’t want to admit it, a coordinator at Texas is not a lateral move from MSU. USCe is a lateral move.

Depends on the paycheck. Success at MSU, when you play 6 games a year against the SEC West and have natural recruiting disadvantages, means a hell of a lot more than success at Texas if your end game is to sell yourself as a head coaching candidate. Arnett has already proven that he can be successful here under perhaps the most dire circumstances imaginable. But perception wise, for some reason, people are more than OK with hiring the DC of Texas as a head coach, but would be dragging their AD through the streets if they ever hired the DC of MSU as a head coach. It’s a bogus double standard, but it is reality.

No it doesn't. Texas is a step up no matter how you look at it. Will Muschamp got a head coaching job at Florida from a DC job at Texas. If we lose him to Texas, I won't like it, but I'll understand. If we lose him to South freaking Carolina, I'll be pissed.

I’m well aware of what Muschamp did. What I’m saying is that success at MSU in the SEC West SHOULD mean way more than success at Texas in the eyes of someone who is looking for a head coach, but it doesn’t for some reason. Muschamp practically proved that. He was a terrible head coach that even had pretty bad defenses as a head coach, but “Texas” on his resume made him well thought of when Florida hired him. He also had the HC in waiting tag, and the Saban pedigree, which might have helped too.

Of course, it usually is largely about the paycheck, and we can’t match TX or even USCe there. South Carolina isn’t paying Beamer $5 million, so they have quite a bit to play with for their DC hire and a much larger budget than we do anyway. So in that sense, practically every Power 5 job except for maybe 10-15 schools are an upgrade over MSU.
