I think he would do well in nfl. Good offense good with qbs, and doesn’t have to recruit. If Kingsbury can he can

I seriously doubt the Jets have them on the board.

His agent is playing Florida the same as he did MSU. Float his name out for jobs after the season when he doesn’t bring home the hardware to get a raise and extension in order to calm the waivering recruits. He probably just got off the phone with Finebaum before calling that columnist.

So they don’t mention saban or Dabo but they do Molen??? They mention Mullin because that’s what Molen tells his agent to do.

Enjoy the ride gators

Never understood why our fans had an issue with Dan being rumored for other jobs. It's a business, and for the most part if your coach is a candidate it a rumored one for another ( let's be honest in some cases a bigger, better,)job it means you have a good coach. I for one I'm thankful we had Mullen for as long as we did, the man did a hell of a job for our University for a time. Some of you will obviously never get over him leaving, but he's gone. That's ok too.

I'd love to have done well enough that our coach was being talked about for better jobs. Yep, this year was breath of fresh air, nobody is after our current coach. It's good to suck again.

Because it hurt our recruiting almost every season. The #1 pitch used by coaches to recruit against us was “did you hear Mullen was going to (fill in the blank)?”

Mullen occupies space in the heads of several on this board. Lots of hurt feelings. They try hard to convince themselves Mullen is not a good coach.

In the real world, when someone starts threatening to leave their job the HR guy shows up at their desk with a cardboard box and watches them gather up their personal belongings. He then escorts them to the front entrance or gate and they are done. This is one of the real reasons that people get so annoyed when Merlinz starts this crap every year.

Not really though. People look for new employment all the time. And if they are one of the best employees there they usually roll out the red carpet to try to convince them to stay. We aren’t talking about bob that files tps reports.

Here is why I hated it

When we were doing well and Mullen started job hunting, he quit on the job he was supposed to be doing for us. He never won an egg bowl if we had 8 wins prior to that game, but he never lost one if we had less than 8 wins. That’s not a coincidence.

Question. Why isn’t Kirby Smart’s agent floating his name? Or Sam Williams?

Truth is, that’s what agents do. But when something might make sense, that’s when it hits the newspaper. You and others like you can’t get over Mullen because he left. After nine years of winning.

He’s a good coach who draws interest from people looking for good coaches. That’s why his name pops up.

And all this time I thought I was a resident in the real world.

In some “real worlds” when a good employee - one you want to keep - gets an attractive offer to go elsewhere, it is HR’s job to package up the counter on the correct form to keep them.

It absolutely is. But because of recruiting, you also want that coach to say he's not leaving. I'd rather Mullen lie to world and tell people he's not leaving, than have him not say anything. I'd take a "pinebox" moment over a mealy mouthed dismissal of accusations. I'm fully aware that a coach denying searches can impact their earnings, but damn, we were married to him for a long time. He could have given us a reach around.

Given the number of wins and the number of players Mullen recruited and developed at MSU that are having significant impact in the NFL, I would argue recruiting was never better than in his time here.

That is probably true. Although I think he did a great job of developing players after they got here. He did get a lot of players with potential to develop. He did not seem to be the kind of guy that liked to play a lot of games to get the 4 star that wanted to have fun during recruiting.

I never said he was a bad recruiter. We inevitably would lose out on someone because of perceived (and legit) coaching instability. Again, I'd rather have a pinebox moment than rumors swirling around about him leaving.

Because it killed recruiting. And the rumors were started by Mullen and his agent. The “rumors” of him leaving started the minute MSU beat Michigan in the Gator. If he was that hot of a commodity... why did it take several years for Florida to pick him up after their #1 declined? Why did larger teams pass year after year?

He was a good coach for MSU but his method of negotiating for better contracts hurt the team every year.

A big part of being a good recruiter is watching a kid playing QB in HS and seeing him as a MLB in the SEC.

In the real world, no other company knows you exist unless you approach them first with a resume. In the real world it is up to HR or your boss to understand there is no reason to invest anything in an employee who wants to leave so much they send out resumes.

Oh, It is fine to send out resumes. I did that for several reasons during my career (Trying to improve salary, saw the company direction was away from what I wanted, A company that was doing illegal things in the area I was responsible for). I always understood if my company learned I had put resumes out, I was done for - It never happened. I did know one or two who told the company they were sending out resumes. They were gone with the quickness. One, the very day/hour they told upper management.

A funny thing. In one fortune 100 company I worked for (a drug and medical device company), after every major break (Christmas, plant shutdown, whatever) we would watch anxiously to see who had gone on an interview and was leaving for a new job somewhere else. If a coworker missed two days (like Thursday and Friday), someone would always accuse them of going on an interview when they got back, because many times, that was true.

I am retired now after 50+ years in the work place so perhaps things have changed. In my world you might have gotten away with threatening to leave once if your were really a key player in the organization but by the time you did it again they would have a fall back plan in place. Don’t lay your cards on the table unless you are ready for someone to pick them up.

You have no idea how wrong you are, do you?

So are you saying that agents don’t float their clients name? Are you saying if there is a potential fit for a job opening, that may be news? Are you saying that there aren’t MSU fans mad at Mullen because he left? Are you saying he didn’t win in the nine years he was at MSU?

Are you saying he isn’t a good coach? Are you saying that good coaches don’t attract interest from people looking for good coaches?

Actually, given that you apparently don’t agree (for what ever reason), I couldn’t be more right.
