We won 17-7. I’m watching the Clemson OSU game now and it aggravates me to see where Clemson is nationally and where we are. I guess the question is how did Clemson elevate there program and we’ve remained the same or even declined.

Taking nothing away from Clemson but what if we traded conferences? They made a hell of a hire, gambled on being patient, and it worked out incredibly well. We hired Croom 4 years later and put ourselves back 10 years. Of course this is after Jackie disassembled everything that Peach Bowl win stood for in his last remaining years.

Yep it’s easier to build a great team playing only two
Games per
Year. See FSU

Larry Templeton is who I blame. Let JWS stay too long and then like you said hired Croom. We also went thru multiple university presidents so we had poor or either no leadership.

Clemson is also in a state with 60% more population, a stronger economy, and until recently only two FBS schools. It also helps that they have a great coach who never seemed to want to jump to another job.

I was at that game and we out physicaled them all night.
Josh Morgan would have been ejected bc of one big time hit on a CU receiver across the middle.
We didn’t capitalize on that win, JS stayed around a little too long and we made a bad hire after Sherrill.

Jackie's wife had cancer. You don't fire a coach at the same time. Agreed the Croom hire was atrocious but the keeping JWS too long thing wasn't.

They didn’t really elevate as a program until much later. Tommy Bowden never won a conference title or even a division title.

This school is who we can be with the right hire. One who is committed to MSU for the long haul... Recruiting ranking the last 10 classes
2010- 27
2011- 10
2012- 20
2013- 15
2014- 16
2015- 9
2016- 11
2017- 16
2018- 7
2019- 10
2020- 3

This is Clemson Last 10 recruiting classes. Why can't we get the same results minus maybe those top 10 classes

Clemson has 3 times the population base to recruit from. I would also argue that the rise of Clemson coincides with the fall of Tennessee. For the last 10 years the pipeline of Atlanta talent has definitely chose a different shade of orange than it did in the 90's when Tennessee was on top.
