The disparity between the P5 and G5 is bigger than most CFB fans and media types want to admit. We're a bad SEC team that was fairly lucky to finish 3-7. And we were incredibly sloppy again today on offense. But we still beat a ranked G5 team despite playing with a bunch of freshmen and having zero depth with all the "opt outs." Anyone arguing that the G5 deserves a playoff spot, even in an expanded 8 team format, is crazy. Bama/Clemson would murder whoever the 8 seed G5 team is.

Well said. In short, a pretty ****** effort from a pretty ****** SEC team was still enough to beat one of the best teams that the G5 has to offer

I said the same thing after the 2013 Liberty Bowl. That was a 10 win conference champion Rice team and we were incredibly fortunate to be 6-6 that year, and we rolled into Memphis and beat them like they were a SWAC school.

Today is even more of an indictment on the state of things. If Georgia blows out Cincinnati tomorrow after Coastal already lost and Tulsa lost to a below average SEC team, won’t be a good look for the G5 at all.

Correct. Mullen’s team would’ve had some sort of Shrader/Hill-like combo that would’ve absolutely mauled Tulsa on the ground until their will was broken. All this in spite of the fact that he’d have been job hunting rather than preparing for the bowl

Pretty much watch the bowl game against Miami-OH but imagine Miami-OH wearing Tulsa uniforms.

You’re not wrong, but unless I’m mistaken that was the last State team to beat both Auburn and Alabama. Not sure what that says but it does speak.

People seem to argue expanding to either a 6 team CFP with all Power 5 champs vs. 1 at-large, with top 2 seeds getting a bye....OR....8-team CFP with the same as the above plus one more at large and one guaranteed G5 participant. The reality is there is no difference between those options. Bama / Clemson vs. a G5 or the 2nd or 3rd best team from the B1G, Pac-12, or Big 12 is no different than a bye week.

I say either keep it at 4 or go to 16. 16 is the minimum number of teams for MSU to ever be able to get in even intermittently. We won’t ever make the field even at 6 teams, and won’t even make it in a 8 or 12-team except maybe once every 50 years or so.

Haha. Talent won out in the end I guess. Incredibly dumb call on the third down by Fickell. Gave Georgia an extra 40 seconds to get in field goal range.

If you mean 2013 State, you are mistaken. I know we didn't beat Alabama, and pretty sure we didn't beat Auburn either.

I was thinking Liberty Bowl with Sly Croom that beat Auburn and beat Bama on the 100 yard pick 6 by Anthony Johnson.

I dont think 1 game should be used to definitively declare much of anything. That goes for declaring the gap is wide, and it goes for declaring the gap is narrow.

And this is especially true for bowl games where multiple impact players sit.
