Ncaa all over this one. Ed O running a program that covered up sexual assaults and stole from sick kids... not a peep so far.

No level 1 violations. How does Hugh not get a show cause and Mullen gets one for two level 2 violations?

NCAA gonna NCAA. Rules are strictly enforced, except when they're blatantly ignored.

Yeah this is a whole lot of nothing.

What it does, it probably hampers him in getting over the hump to be able to get the players needed to compete with the elites. He wasn't going to do that anyway though, looking at his current recruiting and his unwillingness to hire a real OC for playcalling.

I wonder how many people he pissed off at the SEC office when he started talking **** about how many fans were at the A&M game and how he would pack the swamp.... Then the whole team went into Covid lockdown.

I'm not convinced how much power the NCAA has, but I know the SEC office can do as they please. I feel he is getting punished for his big mouth as much as anything else.

The SEC was still threading the public perception needle nationally when Mullen spat off blaming the crowd size (shocker huh) for the A&M loss. I think this show cause is Sankey holding him down while the NCAA has their way.

Exactly

Now he finally has a legitimate excuse NOT to recruit.

“So you’re telling me if I talk to this one recruit in person one time, I will be banned from other recruiting activities for 30 days? Is he a player? I’ll risk it.”

Florida's Team Talent Composite according to 247:
2018-12th
2019-15th
2020-7th

class rankings:
2018-14th
2019-9th
2020-9th
2021-10th (so far)

Mullen took over a 4-7 Florida team at the same time Georgia was coming off a National Championship appearance. Someone in the Florida athletic department asked me what to expect with Mullen. I said he would beat Kirby Smart and be in Atlanta by Year 3. I said if you give him time he will win at the highest level. I also said don't listen to State fans who say he can't recruit and pointed out how he raised our team talent composite 10 spots. I look at what he did at State, and I think he'll do just fine with top-10 talent every year.

Mullen already served the penalties. Listening to Matt Wyatt's show - he couldn't do off campus recruiting this fall. Hilarious considering the situation we are in.

A one-year show cause for Mullen. He was prohibited from all off-campus recruiting during the fall 2020 evaluation period and was given a four-day off-campus recruiting ban during the fall 2021 contact period. Mullen was also banned from off-campus recruiting for the first 10 days of the January 2020 recruiting period, was prohibited from off-campus recruiting for 30 days in fall 2019.

2012 - 3rd
2013 - 3rd
2014 - 9th
2015 - 21st (transition year from Muschamp to McElwain
2016 - 12th
2017 - 11th

Looks like more of the same to me. The 14th ranked class was the transition from McElwain to Mullen, so that makes sense. Don't leave off important data points.

I could also point out that Georgia was influx at QB. With J.T. Daniels, Florida likely does not beat them. And who cares if you get to Atlanta if you can get the doors beat off by the West team? It's obvious that Florida isn't there yet.

I don't think he gets there. This new probation, while minor, will hamper that further.

Care to see the type of recruiting classes that last won Florida national championships? Glad you asked, here they be:

Let me know when Danny Boy and Big Hevy get that done. I'm not expecting your call for a while. Here's some more toilet bowl reading for you, the top prospects in Florida, I count 6 of the top 50 with a Gator sign by their name:

Good luck, Shorts. And Quincy, man, you really need to learn how to read/understand/use data.

I'm not even sure what you are arguing. I'm saying Mullen, the same coach that took Mississippi State to #1 for five weeks, is entering Year 4 where he will probably have top-10 talent on a regular basis. I expect him to win big with that talent profile.

Are you saying Mullen won't win big with top-10 talent? Or are you saying he won't have top-10 talent?

That run to #1, while fun, was very hollow as we found out.

That's exactly what I'm saying, on both counts. By win big I mean an SEC/national title, and by top 10 talent I mean the talent it takes to win those accomplishments. He proved Saturday that he didn't have it, and I don't expect him to get any better.

Perhaps if he'd ever move his ego aside and take the next step as a coach and get serious about recruiting. But you are what you are.

Being #1 and hollow in regards to Mississippi State football should never be used in the same sentence.

Hollow? Are you on drugs? I’ll never forget that run. It was awesome. We peaked early in that season, and couldn’t hold onto it once we had reporters in our players faces all week and the new pressure of being number 1. But that day we beat Auburn, we were the best team in the country.

I agree with this. It’s my place to point out how hollow it is, on an Ole Miss board. Just like it’s yalls place to point out how our Sugar Bowl has an asterisk beside it. There’s absolutely no reason to diminish it as a fan of the program. It’s a big deal, and it’s hard as hell to do. Especially with Nick Saban in the SEC.

Gotcha. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

And to be clear: When I reference him taking us to #1, my point is not that we were the best team that year. My point is the fact that we were even in the discussion of the first ever CFP poll in Year 6 after what Mullen inherited and our structural disadvantages to our immediate competition is enough for me to be convinced of Mullen's ability to recruit, build a program, and win. But it's not just that run in 2014. Averaging 7+ wins per year over a 9 year period at State is impressive. We will be fortunate if that ever happens again.
