Never in my life seen a player go from Heisman candiate to getting benched in garbage time.

Any idea what his plans are? I can't imagine him coming back for another year at MSU nor can I see any NFL team giving him a shot with his propensity for turnovers. Honestly I would like to see him transfer to a smaller school and at least go out with a good year. Hate to see his college career end like this.

That's the way the PAC 12 cookie crumbles in the SEC. Hopefully he does transfer to a DII , possibly a G-5, school to build up some confidence again before he tries to go out into the real world. He'll always have the single game SEC passing record.

or at least until Leach gets his offense running right.

I hate it too, truly felt sorry for him the other night. Good life lessons I guess, what happened to him sure ain't fair. I would imagine he's going to try the NFL, I would.

He has a degree from Stanford. I am guessing he will be just fine with whatever happens to him

The one thing you can say about Costello is that he ain’t a quitter. No one in the world would have batted an eye if he opted out at any point after the concussion but dude is still lacing em up and doing what is asked.

You must have a short memory. Jeremy Johnson did this with Auburn just a few years back.

That’s actually a good comparison. Johnson had that one excellent game against Arkansas and then fell off a cliff in a hurry.

I guess the difference is Johnson’s drop came from one season to the next, Costello was a Heisman contender after Week 1 and by Week 3 he looked like the worst QB in the league.

Makes you wonder how the season would've played out had Rogers started from the beginning. Not saying we would've won a lot more, but I think we would've been more competitive and not thrown 200 INTs.

I was thinking about this on Saturday when he promptly threw an interception in mop up duty.
I guess it depends on if he wants to get on with life or not. If he wants to move on from football, he has a Stanford degree and the start of a masters. If he wants one last shot at football, hopefully he can enter the portal and play somewhere that needs him right away.

Costello has had some bad interceptions but that wasn't one of them. Mizzou DB (former Qb) just made an insane play on that one. Just bad luck for KJ which he seems to have acquired plenty of since breaking the single game SEC passing record. I think Vandy could use him. Get a masters at Vandy with an undergrad at Stanford. Tits up

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see him get pulled. I thought the Mizzou former QB had a good 2nd half at DB considering he hadn't played on defense since the 8th grade. Pretty good story on him below.

I think Leach's confidence in Costello is even less that the confidence Costello has in himself right now. Not going to lie, I wanted him pulled too after that pick. If Mizzou had gotten that onside kick (they should have) then we all would have been puckered up with worry about Costello possibly throwing a pick 6.

If he had balls, he wouldn't have slid short of those first downs vs Arkansas and kentucky

Yeah I'm not blaming him for the INT, I just happened to think about where he might be next season when I saw the INT.

That Mizzou player was everywhere in the 2nd half.

Agree. And yeah, Mizzou got screwed on that onside kick call. The guy was clearly in bounds.

Why in the hell was Austin Williams so passive on that onside kick? How easy would it have been for him to simply bat the football way out of bounds?

Should be a lesson to those people who always talk abt a “sure thing”.

He decided to go into coaching.

Onside kicks are just hard to practice for. You may not be in that situation more than 4 or 5 times over a 4 year career, every kick is different, and you don't want to practice them full speed because they can be dangerous. A split second of hesitation and you screw it up.

They didn’t call him for being out of bounds. The penalty was for illegal batting. The guy batted the ball back onto the field of play. The TV guys didn’t seem to know the rule, but Neil and Matt immediately said that should be a penalty on the radio broadcast and wondered why it even took the referees so long to make the call. Nice to have announcers who know the rules of the sport their announcing.

I learned a long time ago to never expect the announcers to be knowledgeable about much of anything. It's ******** if the guy batting the ball back in-bounds is illegal. But if that's the rule, then good call.

I believe the rule is an offensive player (or kicking team player) can’t bat the ball forwards. If the guy had batted the ball backwards back onto the field he would’ve been ok, but he batted it forwards and in fact it almost went to the 20 yard line before it was recovered. Good call by the referees.
