Positive for covid Tuesday and my company sent me home ten days minimum and get tested even though I have no symptoms. She has been coughing and just feels a little bad. My results came back negative which is just weird to me. My brother in law’s daughter tested positive a while back but no one else in their house did and she even lost taste and smell. This stuff is just plain weird.

My child's speech therapist did NOT test positive for COVID, but her young daughter has it (fever, and all). The only explanation I can think of is that the mom has had it without symptoms and has the antibodies. Seems like this thing is way too contagious to not share it amongst a household when one person gets it without strict quarantining.

Speaking of strict quarantings (it works). Both my mom and dad had it. But my younger brother, who still lives there, didn't catch it. He did not get close to them for 10 days, only staying in his room essentially, when he was home.

Kids who haven't hit...

puberty are much less likely to spread it. The longer, organized studies are coming out with their results now, and that was one of the confirmations from large-scale studies in Iceland and the UK. Since it would cast a lot of our media and decision makers in a bad light here (plus isn't as dramatic), it hasn't gotten much publicity. NatGeo has an article on the Icelandic one.

I’m quarantined as well. Sat beside some for 3 hours who tested positive the next day. We were maybe 2 foot apart at most. We both had mask on. Mask work.

I would retest on Monday. If negative then and you stay away from your wife I would say you are free and clear.

I've just gotten over it

My wife, who I share a bed with, never got it. She tested negative twice.

None of my kids, who I interacted with plenty of times, never got it either. Had my oldest tested just because he said he wasn't feeling well (he never showed symptoms, just wanted to shut him up) tested negative.

I had about 3 days of a fever and awful body aches. One night I was super nauseous and had the chills. Then a lingering heac ache for a few more days.

I'm good to go now. Still Tired, but normal otherwise.

Good luck to you and your family. Mine was pretty easy overall, but the nausea night I felt like dying.

Tested positive on Friday, 11/27. So did wife. She had two rough days, then bounced back. A little longer term bad feelings for me with some of the main symptoms.

But here is the kicker. I have had 2 procedures scheduled prior to testing positive. The scheduled date was 12/11. But Baptist has a policy that if you test positive , you cannot have any procedures until you have tested negative. So, I had to test again on 12/7, prior to my scheduled event on 12/11. On Wed., 12/9, my test came back still positive. So, they postponed my procedure from 12/11 to 12/18. So, I had to retest on 12/14, and it came back positive on 12/16, postponing my procedure again to 12/30.

So, then I find out that after your initial test positive, your could possibly test positive for up to 3 months. So my doctor is now trying to find another hospital so that I can get my procedure done.

I say all that to say, I have tested positive on 11/27, actually being sick from 11/24 to 12/4, then tested positive on 12/7, still not feeling great, then tested positive on 12/14, and still not feeling my old self. Get ready for it to hold on for a while.

I’m not saying it’s the flu but all of these things could and often are the same with the flu.

Mom has it. Kids and husband don’t. Kid has it but on one else does.

Is the flu not as contagious? Or is it that we don’t run and get tested when we don’t show symptoms?

Maybe everyone in the house has the flu but they didn’t get tested Bc that’s not how it generally works?

Maybe no one has it but one person and the flu is just as contagious as Covid but not quite as serious?

No they don't. If they did, you wouldn't be seeing the huge spike right now. In March, nobody was wearing a mask, but since then at least 75% or more people are wearing mask everywhere I go. Don't give that ******** anymore.

This is really the weirdest part for me - how it spreads so easily between some people, and then others seem completely immune to it.

My wife and I have both been around lots of people at work who've tested positive, and neither of us have gotten sick. I mean - the two people I work closest with, and the three teachers she shares rooms with (she's a sped teacher who spends time in multiple classrooms) have all tested positive since August. She even had a picture taken with one during their spirit week, the day before she tested positive - with masks off of course. My kids have been in school for the entire semester. They've both played park & rec sports, I've coached a baseball and soccer team. Nothing.

At this point, I'm really not sure how we would catch it. Most of the people we spend time with have had it. Either we have really good masks or have some kind of natural immunity. I've donated blood twice since June and came back negative for anti-bodies so I would think that should rule out having it and not knowing.

You certainly wouldn’t be seeing 50,000 cases (positive test) in California if they were as effective as some claim. I have been our there a lot the last couple of months and they have to be the mask wearing champions.

FWIW, I am just getting out of quarantine after being extremely close to somebody with it for 2 days in a row. (Like within 3 feet apart close). He had a cough on day 1 and 2 and then spiked a fever late in day 2. 95% of the time due to the nature of the job, no masks. I never got it. He is about 9 days in now and near 100 percent. He is a also a cancer survivor..

Sounds like from this UF study that asymptotic transmission is less than 1% and symptomatic is around 18% inside the home.

I’ll be the first to admit I was surprised they went back into lockdown. They are still at less than half of where they were in the spring.

At least at the moment, deaths seemed to have peaked.

View attachment 18968

They have also gone from the top 5 in deaths per million down to 24th. In the mean time, places like Argentina, Peru. Etc who have been locked down like crazy for months have rocketed past Sweden and Brazil. Japan and South Korea are not immune either if you want to go look at their recent charts.

Doesn’t look like other than a few Island nations that can close their borders, it seems like it is a matter of time for most countries.

Hey Ron. Just as an FYI. I know you like accuracy. Sweden is reporting deaths differently... They take the deaths from today's reports and add it back to the actual date of death so it's up to 2 weeks behind. Most other countries take all deaths coming in and add them to that days number, no matter the actual date of death. A little difficult to explain so I will post a link.

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-sweden-death-reporting

I was curious about this the other day and took a screenshot. The death total was 7514 on the 14th and is now at 7893. That's 379 "reported Covid19 deaths" in 3 days or 126 a day, but they are recording them back up to a few weeks.

View attachment 18969

View attachment 18970

If we revist this topic in 2 weeks we will see today's death total is much higher than now and probably higher than the current high in early December. Unfortunately I think even with better care and treatment options, it has gotten worse for Sweden than it was in the Spring and that's likely why the lockdowns are happening.

There is a test for flu, and a test for Covid. They're not the same disease, and Covid is much more contagious than flu.

On a positive note, apparently masks work for flu too - it's a very light flu season (according to local experts deal with data, not solely my opinion). Even after Covid is gone, we may be masking against the flu for the coming years. Asians have been doing it for a long time.

That may be true, but not if you're a well-known football coach in an adjacent state. **

No one said there isn’t a test for flu. No one said they were the same.

The point is there are a lot of similarities.

Often times 1 in a house hold catches the flu and no one else does. Same with Covid.

Sometimes everyone in house gets it. Same with Covid.

I’m not sure you can definitely say Covid is more contagious at this point. Maybe you can say Covid is more contagious Bc of the flu vaccine.

I’m not gonna be part of the “new normal” of wearing a mask. Asians also don’t know how to stand in line. Please let’s not adopt that idea!

Wife is a 1st grade teacher. That would help explain why so few of the elementary teachers are getting sick. Her (and by extension, me) included.

2 differences with the flu.
1. sometimes the whole family gets vaccinated, sometimes only a few do. That could affect how it spreads in a single house.
2. When someone gets the flu, tamiflu is sometimes given to everyone in the house early on.

This is so true, but I don’t believe in total lockdowns but some type of mandates have to be imposed. In MS alone positive cases are averaging almost 2k per day and IMO Tate has not taken enough steps and to slow to react. But again just my opinion.

Covid definitely spreads faster than the flu right now, but that's because we have a flu vaccine that slows the flu down. Also, a lot of people have had the flu and have antibodies to some strains.

Will Covid end up being more contagious than the flu in the end? Who knows?

I have a friend that tested positive end of October/beginning of November. He's still testing positive. His work (Chevron) won't let him back until he gets a negative test from the Chevron clinic. They'll only test him every 10 or 14 days, can't remember which. He hasn't worked in 40+ days and can't go back until at least Christmas Eve (if he test negative then). At least they're paying him.
