Wasn’t he LT’s choice to replace Felker, when we hired Sherrill?

I think Dr. Zacharias overruled him.

Templeton was the reason

I think Dr. Zacharias overruled him.
Perkins had a seventeen page typed plan that focused on uinifying boosters and paying to hire a good staff. Ray was meeting with Dr. Z and Templeton when Ray asked a question, "What are the salaries for the OC and DC?". Templeton nor Z knew the answer. During that meeting, Perkins told them that the interview was over and take him to the airport (he flew to Mobile). Perkins had been terminated in Tampa Bay on a Monday and he was meeting with MSU a week later. He would have loved to have taken the job but he needed more support from leadership and didn't see it.

He was their head coach for the 2012 - 2013 seasons-- leading them to a 9-2 record and a #8 ranking in 2013.

Here's a news release from Jones: Link.

I played against Ray when we were in High School. He was a freshman receiver at Petal and I was a senior offensive and a defensive end at Lucedale. Petal won 31 to 13 and Ray caught 2 or 3 TD passes that night. I remember someone said he had "gunslinger eyes." I know that our DBs had a rough night trying to guard him that night.
Adios, Old Friend.

He was an assistant coach at MSU in 1973. Was involved in recruiting in Mobile area. Called me to help in recruiting Daryl McGlasker. Bob Tyler was the head coach.

Did not know the man but seemed like a good man. A few years ago some former players and coaches that knew Coach Tom Goode came to help do some repair work on his home. Coach Perkins was among those that came to help.

I left Ellisville way before that so no wonder I never knew ... I always like Perkins even when he was at Bama. Sim Cooley was the coach at JCJC when I was there ...he was was a pretty good coach himself and had sustained success there
