This year has shown 9 or 10 SEC games is a good idea for a normal schedule.

9 games is good. Figure out something to give the teams an extra bye week.

Yes. 9 SEC games. 2 out of conference.

4 team playoff for conference title.

The 5 Power Five conference winners and 1 Group of 5 representative and 2 wild cards get into 8 team national playoff.

Adds one game to the season for 2 teams. Makes playoffs a possibility for almost everyone.

Teams that don't make the conference title playoff lose one **** game. Every game counts and bowls can still be played. TV money and attendance increase because of more compelling football.

I’ll be selling a guaranteed losing records for Mississippi State 4 out of every 5 years. Give me our 7-5, 8-4 overall with 4-4, 3-5 SEC any year over 6 guaranteed SEC losses.

Especially now, I mean we can’t even step up our recruiting with a national ‘name’ coach. We need all the easy wins we can get.

Hadn't really thought about a 4 team playoff for conference title game, that is interesting. I could live with 9 conference games but not 10.

There needs to be some kind of system that allows more competition. These dynasties are getting old and with the NCAA going the way of the dodo in the near future, it will probably get worse.

I like a system where a school like Mississippi State can get on a heater late in the year once a decade and drop a turd in the punch bowl. The current system just lets the blue bloods rule. Texas A&M is probably going to get the shaft this year unless Notre Dame beats Clemson again. Put 20 teams in the mix in early December and let it all shake out. High school and NFL know how well it works. Time for D1 college football to get on board.

Naah!

These are still student athletes, till further notice.

Regular season plus 2 games, plus potentially 2 playoff games. Naah!

I’ve enjoyed it from a fans perspective. I also like the idea of playing SEC games all throughout December.

Conditional Buy, if the other conferences also adopt a 10-game schedule and you don't have to be .500 to make a bowl anymore.

Alternatively, scale back down to around 10-15 non-playoff bowls so that getting one really is an accomplishment, but allow every team to play one late December/early January game against a similarly rated team and get the extra practices in.

Sell for microeconomic reasons. Only winning 2-3 games a year doesn’t inspire excitement in fanbases. Therefore people won’t travel and spend their money in and around the University.

From a pure watching football perspective, yes to 9.

For MSU, I would say no. Adding another SEC opponent makes it that much harder for us to get lucky and get to Atlanta. We go to a lot less bowls with 9 or 10 SEc games too.

Depends on the bowl / extra practice requirements going forward. Buy if they are the same as this year, or at least reduced to something like 4 minimum wins. Sell otherwise.

Sell. I like the rent-a-win games.

But this year has reinforced the idea that SEC scheduling needs to change so that we play every team in the league home and away at least once over a four-year period.

Sell. This would kill the SEC and take money out of the pocket of smaller schools who need it for Athletics.

I'd say the real lesson is push the start of the season back to late September and play in December.

Sell times 1,000. It's a terrible idea, even in this pandemic year. Should have just kept the 8 SEC games we already had scheduled + the P5 OOC game and one G5 game.

Hard sell. We'd only average 3-5 wins each year and donations would fall off a cliff if that happens. There's something psychological about the pursuit of 6 wins that keeps us going.

I'd say the real lesson is push the start of the season back to late September and play in December.

Realistically, while a lot of the players aren't really student athletes anymore, a lot of them are, so I'm not sure we can play past the first week of December because of finals.

But I definitely think we should start playing through the first week of December. And selfishly, I would say start the season the same time but have an extra bye week. It would probably help attendance some to spread the games out. And the SEC could try to make sure everybody has a bye week in the first few weeks to cut out at least one hot as balls game for each team.

It wouldn't really work with non-conference scheduling, but I'd love to play 4 SEC games in the first five weeks with a bye. Then you'd have two home games for each team that are potentially miserably hot, but nobody would have three of their 7 home games in the daytime during August and September.

A maybe more realistic option would be to aim for one conference home game and one conference away game in the first four weeks. Teams could then try to have one of their byes in teh first four weeks, and then if teams tried to schedule their P5 opponent during those first four weeks (which obviously a lot of that is already done for years in the future), they'd presumably only have two home games the first four weeks in one year, and then one home game in the first four weeks the next year. That should produce enough good TV content for ESPN the first four weeks while also improving the experience for season ticket holders.

Lots of people on this board are in favor of playing a weaker schedule in what sounds like hopes of sustained mediocrity. I guess I'm Don Quixote on this one, but I want to fight for the belt every year because I think we might have that Rocky moment one of these days.

I swear one day some of you will make the argument to just go ahead and move on to the Sun Belt so we can win 10 every year and compete for titles.

Sell, and it has actually changed my mind on this subject. I was pro-10 league games to get more interesting games on our schedule because our fans seem to have become bored with the non-conf wins and it made those home games a boring atmosphere. But now I would rather have the boring win atmosphere over the miserable loss atmosphere, which should have been obvious. I was wrong.

Also, we're rarely if ever truly competing with the top teams in our league and their top 10 recruiting classes, so we might as well collect W's however we can get them.

You aren’t alone. Outside of the constant rescheduling and cancellation fiascos which were mostly unavoidable in the current climate, this season has been awesome from a competition standpoint.

I also don’t get why people think we’d be locked into a max of 3 or 4 wins against a 10 game SEC schedule. With no COVID, a competent 2nd or 3rd year coach and a roster that had fully adjusted and bought into the system, we’d be 5-5 or 6-4 at worst this season, even without upgrading the talent.
No way we’d have lost to all of UK, Arkansas, or OM, and we might have had enough to beat UGA too.

The bottom line from a pragmatic point of view is we aren’t ever winning the national title in football, probably aren’t even winning the West again in the next several decades, and the bowl games outside of CFP and NY6 are all redundant and stupid with too many of them existing to make any of them prestigious. And they offer nothing more than just an extra bunch of games to appease fans (although the added practice time is important).

So, about the only real satisfaction MSU fans will get a chance from getting from football (besides winning the Egg Bowl) is the occasional win over a big name team. So the best thing even for MSU is to maximize the chances of that happening. Do that and reform the bowl system to allow a lower win threshold, and almost everybody is happy. People will forget about the bump from “plastic wins” when nobody else has them either.

Sell. I actually get tired of seeing us play the same teams over and over every year. At least with four ooc games we play different teams but I don't care for the ooc high school teams we sometimes play. I just wish somehow we could shuffle the divisions around a little more.Sick of playing bama, lsu, auburn and A&M every single year.
