I don't get why people care he left. Women's basketball isn't important and it gets talked about to much as is

And apparently our status as a national power, went with him. Shame we didn’t win that 2018 title, it really is. Bigger choke than 1985 baseball.

Oh well.

Eh, I’ve always thought Nikki would probably be a step down from Vic, but she deserves the benefit of the doubt for now. We played as bad as we possibly could have and still only lost by 4 to a good team in overtime. This same group had some stinkers last year too even with Vic. We’re very talented but still not super experienced. Vic’s best teams always had a ton of seniors and we are rolling with a group that’s mostly underclass and the majority of them haven’t even played in an NCAA tournament game for us before.

It’s not hard to tell from social media that she is too good of friends with the players. That won’t work.

On the surface, I might agree with you. I saw what happened with Moorehead. But this woman played for Pat Summit. She can and will be tough with them when she needs to. Sometimes I think Vic was tough on them because he felt he had to, not because he needed to. There's no question that they love playing for her and that will translate into them working hard FOR her. I've coached for over 20 years and I used to be a hard-***. That only got me resentment and kids playing hard because they knew they'd better or someone else would be taking their spot. As I got older, creating a relationship with the kids became more important and low and behold, I still got the results I wanted, but in the end, the kids trusted me and would talk to me once they were done playing for me. There are more ways to skin a cat. Let's see how this plays out and give her the benefit of the doubt.

You can have a good relationship with them as long as you also will hold them accountable and be stern when it’s needed.

Dikkie is a joke. No discipline... No leadership... All they r worried about is how they are gonna look in a damn pic or 17 video... Dikkie is a joke... Just like John Cohen & his husband Nelle... This was her hire... She wanted Vic gone because he was a threat to the worst AD school has ever had... Including the male Cheerleader from Jackson Prep...

Starting to wonder if RD or someone he/she is close with got (or thinks they got) pushed out of a job or marriage because of Stricklin. Unless it's common to repeatedly attempt to disparage someone, even when they have next to nothing to do with the topic/thread at hand.

If she is friends with the players, it almost assuredly won’t work.

Don’t be friends with your kids either. Be their parent.

Does anyone know what actually happened between Vic and Cohen? There are always rumblings, but no one knows exactly what happened.

Didnt we always know that Vic would eventually return to Texas. Only surprise to me was it wasnt A&M
and I guess thats because the Teasips job came open sooner. If you and your wife were from there you probably would like to go back in the right situation.

I agree.

There is no hierarchy in a relationship with friends (all are equal), but there is between coaches and players (coaches have authority over the players).

That's not to say that coaches need not worry about their relationships with players. They should.

Communication between coaches and players is critical. Coaches must get input/feedback from the players to formulate the best strategies, both before the game and in-game. Thus, coaches must listen to their players and show some appropriate level of respect to their players.

However, the final authority is always with the coaches . . . and the players must always know their place.

The same hierarchy applies to parents and children.

I think most did, but him going to Texas would've about been like Cohen leaving Kentucky to come back home and take over the OM program. There's a part of it that makes sense, and there's another part that is eyebrow raising. Especially knowing that Blair simply can't have more than another year or two in him

Having good relationship isn’t remotely the same as being “friends”.

Not saying that’s what you are saying.

Not even close to the same.
Vic Schaefer was born in Austin, Tx.
He played basketball at a community college.

And if ole miss had the resources Texas had, it wouldn’t surprise me if a Mississippi state guy left Kentucky for ole miss.

If somebody can recruit talent to State, they can get that in Austin, TX. He spent plenty of time hunting in south Texas. He is from the area. Why is it so difficult to believe he would leave? I’m sure the money was good enough and you don’t have to deal with Cohen. The more information that is aired about Cohen, the more apparent it is that he is a quirky individual to deal with.

The fact that people are mad, dumbfounded, fill in the blank about Vic leaving at any point should tel you how bad State is athletically.

It was incredible watching those teams compete for a NC two years in a row but it was a lower tier sport that had turned into arguably the most premier team in Starkville with maybe baseball to argue for first and second and football has gone down since 2014. Men’s BB is trash also but that’s a lot to do with rules in general and not just Rick Ray. The sport itself is difficult to watch on even the top level.

Perhaps some people should stop and think that you only get one life to live on this earth so why not be as happy as you can be?

If one can tell from social media that our coach is too close to her players then that is enough for me......SM is always spot on.

Nothing happened. Home called and he answered.

There are two demographic / geographic laws of the universe that will remain constant until the end of time:

1) People born and raised in Texas will do anything and everything to get back there, if they ever leave in the first place.

2) People not born and raised in Mississippi will do anything and everything to eventually get the hell out of there, if they ever wind up there in the first place.

Both of these laws were in play here.

So we should only discuss sports we aren't all that good at like football and men's basketball? The sports we actually have top notch programs in like baseball and women's basketball aren't worth discussing?
