A slow day question regarding Marijuana

As I watched the lead up and then the vote on Medical Marijuana, which I voted in favor of - 61 not 61A, I began to wonder:

Could the marijuana petition folks now force another constitutional amendment (In the same way as they did with medical marijuana) to make personal propagation and use of marijuana legal and deny the state any authority to restrict anyone from growing 2-4 plants on their property and deny the state any right to impose any taxes on those personal use plants? This option would still allow sale and taxation of commercial marijuana which I would also consider reasonable.

Do you have an opinion? Would you sign the petition? Would you vote yes?

Yes I would sign it. But I still wouldn't grow it own my own. I dont have a green thumb and there are already people who do it better than me.

Mississippi just needs to legalize the full cultivation of it and impose a 20% state tax on it. Then rake in billions.

After January 20th everything changes. Possession will be decriminalized and marijuana infractions will be removed from personal records. Why bring some hippie or redneck from the sticks into a jail or prison, for possession, just to teach the passive air head how to become a criminal due to exposure to the criminal elements?

They legalized growing industrial hemp and the ones that grew it lost so much money they said they would never do it again. Market got so flooded it bombed the price.

So I’m guessing politicians are working on a way to make sure their favorite donors/relatives get one of a limited number of cultivation permits to make sure the market isn’t flooded again. Gotta make sure politicians are taken care of and then the moral objections will disappear.

Listened to a podcast about Canada legalizing marijuana. Basically, the government would delay permits/licenses for folks trying to open up dispensaries then the government would open a shop in the same area. Once they got off the ground, they'd finally issue the permits after they already had most of the market.

I had a discussion with an employee of the LA Ag Dept about when they made dispensaries and state appointed production facilities legal and this was the topic. He said it got intense when they started the process of doling out the permits, lots of behind the scenes lobbying by people/companies wanting them. He said there were a good many legislators and state officials that made a ton of money by pulling strings and calling in favors.

I wonder if Tater et al have any tricks up their sleeve to impede the program? Noticed that the S. Dakota state police chief has filed suit to prevent the recreational law being implemented up there.

I saw a documentary of the legal marijuana industry in California. It is so expensive to comply with all the regulations that it's cheaper to grow it illegally and deal with consequences.... all they do is confiscate the plants and maybe a fine.

After they leave, they just plant them again, often in the same field and right next to legal farms right out in the open.

California has created a black market society bigger that than ever based on overregulating it and no criminal penalties. Legal growers can't compete, it's not just the taxes.

That’s not really how it works. Plus Mississippi actually doesn’t have the greatest climate for growing cannabis.

^^^This. After the legislator botched the medical marijuana issue (by not offering a viable option and losing out on tax dollars), the best way forward (to capture tax revenue) is to legalize it for recreational use and tax/permit it.
