I’m sure this is a retread but I haven’t seen it mentioned lately. Does it go to 8 teams with automatic bids or anything like that? Perhaps just going back to BCS formulas and doing away with the committee?

You cannot apply ONLY math statistics to college football. Just not enough cross pollination across uneven schedules and competition. The committee is absolutely necessary so the math nerds don't do something idiotic because it sounds good on paper. It needs to be modified soon.
Eight Teams using the BCS algorithm. The committee was made for the talking heads to just talk and get viewers.
Or, just set the algorithm to whatever standards/weights everyone agrees on that is what P5 & G5 teams uses.
I like 4 teams. I don’t really want to hear the debate between why 9-3 Auburn or 10-2 Washington is more deserving for the 8th spot. Much less 9-3 Kansas State or 8-4 Texas AM.

Because it gives the opportunity for upsets. That’s why everyone loves March madness so much. College football is going to suffer in popularity if Alabama and Clemson continue to play each other in the title game 90% of the time.
You really think an 8 seed is upsetting a 1 seed? History would not be on your side. Only twice has a 4 seed upset a 1 seed in the semifinals since the inception of the CFP and both involved Alabama in 2015 and 2018. Only 3 of the 12 semifinals played have ended with the losing team losing by 7 points or less. Half of the time the semifinals have ended with the winning team winning by 20 points or more.
The idea that adding more teams in an effort for more competition is misguided based on history. The current setup has not had many competitive games.
If the NCAA is going to add 2 or 4 additional teams then they should simultaneously cut the number of scholarships to make the playing field level.

The Playoff TV contract with ESPN expires in 2025. ESPN pays about $475 million a year. With ESPN bleeding money the CFP has no desire to expand the playoffs and renegotiate the ESPN tv deal.
I’d like to see a 8 team playoff and it won’t probably happen but what if we reduced the scholarship limit from 85 to 70 but you could sign up to 20 per year if needed?
Really no reason to have 4 plus depth chart members on both O and D
Because most teams have only played a handful of games in 2020. Last year’s final rankings had:
4 loss Wisconsin
3 loss Baylor
4 Loss Auburn
3 loss Iowa
3 loss Utah
4 loss Michigan
all ranked between #10 and #20.
