Taysom Hill named Saints starting QB

Not Winston like many expected. And it doesn't sound like Payton plans to play both of them, it's going to be the Taysom show while Brees is out.

What do the other Saints fans on the board think of this? I have no freaking clue what to expect. He has 18 career pass attempts. Got to think the offense will look a little different than it normally would with Brees. And this certainly feels like an audition for Taysom to be the starting QB permanently after this year, assuming Brees retires after this season.

I like it, let's see how he does. I do wonder how long his lease is before Winston comes in?

I'm pretty shocked. I have zero idea what type of offense will be run out there sunday.

Curious to see how Payton schemes for him. I know it's unheard of, but, supposedly, coaches are allowed to adjust schemes based on personnel.

If the Saints fall behind by double digits I still expect to see Winston get more snaps.

I think that's exactly what it is with a little bit of positioning for a future contract negotiations. Saints have Winston for this year and Taysom for this year and next. If Hill proves he can be a #1, then great. They have a plan for the future and they get to continue negotiating with Winston for a backup QB contract if they think Brees is done after this year or let him go if he's not. If Hill proves he can't be a #1, then when they are negotiating beyond 2021, they will have some leverage in that if he can't be a #1 with Peyton, he probably won't be desirable for anyone other than in the role he's already playing for the Saints. That also lets them know that they do need to be looking for a #1 for after Brees.

Some words of advice to those bettors out there.

When Teddy B took over for Brees last year or the year before (Brees missed like 5 or 6 games), I'm pretty sure the Saints covered every one of those games. Payton will put a great scheme together for him.

Someone made the point yesterday that since the Saints play the Falcons both times during the stretch where Brees is out, we'll probably never see Brees vs the Falcons again. ATL fans must feel the same way that Ole Miss baseball fans felt when Jake Mangum graduated.

And anyone in ESPN leagues who picked Hill up for his TE eligibility have now officially won their league (if he is actually the starter for an extended period).

As luck would have it, the manager who picked up Hill a few weeks ago, in Lettuce Patch 1.... is still in first place ....Now with Justin Herb at Qb and Hill at TE.

Also to note, this is the only multi player managed team in the patch.....interesting development....

We may have a forfeit on our hands !1!

Multiplayer managed? What is that sorcery? Every waiver pickup, drop, or start / sit decision has to go through a panel of decision makers? Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose?

I was all set to take the Saints in my survivor pool, then Brees went down. I was still kinda thinking it, and now this. I have no idea at this point.
I guess Green Bay is the best choice now based on who I have left to choose from.

I am VERY shocked. Tayson Hill has thrown 5 passes in an actual game this year and threw 6 last year. Plus, starting Hill kind of takes the gadget play wrinkle out of the playbook and takes him off the field on ST. Payton must not have much confidence in Winston AT ALL.

The dude couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn against a Peter Sirmon defense in 2016. This is going to be very interesting. Of course, just being able to throw a 2 yard swing pass to Kamara is about 95% of what he needs to do to be effective, so who knows.

Two years ago:

Taysom Hill blocked a punt for the Saints today. So this season he has...

- Completed passes
- Run for a TD
- Caught a pass
- Returned kicks
- Recorded tackles on special teams
- Blocked a punt

Fun fact: Taysom Hill and Pat Mahomes both came into the league the same year... Mahomes is 25, Hill is 30. LOL.

Have you already picked whoever the Jets are playing? Btw just FYI from a Saints fan... we dont always lose but we usually put up at least one stinker against ATL per year.

It tells me Winston doesn’t know the plays. Timeouts had to be called last week when Jameis was confused. Hill is not accurate and doesn’t go through his progression. This has the makings of a disaster.

Its the 2-7 Chargers. I've thought about that matchup since LA is also at home, but man its a game of bad vs bad. Totsl toss up even though the spread is decent for the Chargers.

I've gone to the Jets well a handful of times so far this season- they have treated me well in their inability to do anything right.

How the heck do you not know the plays halfway into the season? No excuse for that.

Changing into the right play at the line depending on what's there is probably the issue.

Winston looked lost last week when he played. Not very effective.

Getting your first real action in a new offense against a top 5 nfl defense isn't exactly a good way to break in. Hell, even Brees struggled last week before the injury
