I'll keep it short, just wanted to share information and let you all draw your own conclusions. For reference, I'm an administrator of a continuing care retirement community (Independent, Assisted, and Healthcare) in southwest VA.
- We had a physical therapist test positive, which triggered us to test 100% of our residents and team.
- 11 residents' results came back positive, 3 additional team members positive (1 Activity person, 2 Beauty Shop employees)
- The therapist, who wears a surgical mask appropriately, sees quite a few residents for therapy and they also wear masks in therapy sessions.. none of those residents tested positive.
- All 11 of the residents who were positive had been in the beauty shop the week prior. Both beauty shop employees (work 2 days per week) were disciplined for not wearing their surgical masks appropriately on the last day they worked before being tested.
- The activity person who was positive is who coordinates with the beauty shop employees, which is why she was exposed.
Yes, there are other factors at play, but the results seem to point towards the benefits of wearing a mask.
Not trying to start the 500th COVID thread, just felt like it was worth passing along.
