In the market for a new TV.
65” preferably but could maybe go 70” and down to a 55” although already have a Samsung LED that size that is about 7 years old.
Trying to stay under 1000$
Looked at Samsung, Sony and LG but not tied to brand at all.
Really just want a quality TV, great sound, at a good price and it seems now thru end of November is the best time to buy?
What have SP’ers bought recently ??

I am looking for a 48 inch plus 4K that won't break my bank. Just waiting for the Christmas specials to start next month

I would wait for black Friday deals. I bought a Sony 930e about 3 years ago. Cost about $1100 for a 55". Comparable to Samsung's qled models. Wish I had bought a 65" tho. Has a great picture. Keep your eyes open on a Sony 900h. Just last week Best Buy had it down to $1k for a 65" but now it's back up to $1399. I bet it will be back to $1k on black Friday. Samsung's qled's would be another series I would look at.

I bought a TCL 6 series 55” for less than $500 last year.

I highly suggest rtings.com for research.
ed: all of rtings.com price checks, links to Amazon, but personally, I’m hesitant to have a tv shipped to my house. I’ve read about a lot of messed up TVs due to handling.

You do realize that no flat tv is going to give you good sound, much less great sound. They just don’t.

I bought a Vizio SB3621n sound bar/sub woof with the above mentioned tv and it’s fantastic for the price. Makes all the difference in the world..
it’s not the Vito listed here, but you get the idea.

I just bought a 65 inch LG UHD TV at Walmart for 460. Good picture and decent sound (which isn’t a big deal because I have a sound bar).

Just made a purchase a few months back. Did a lot of research on OLED vs QLED and that led me to the LG.

Was a Samsung guy prior and also have a Sony. Have been very pleased with the LG

I got that exact same one last year at Best Buy, delivered to my house the next day - $499. I'm sure it's not the best but it's been good enough for me, no major complaints.

I bought TCLs for my house as well. I use to spend way too much money on TVs. Now I couldn't care less about the technical specs. I like the TCLs. Especially since they have the Xfinity app built in. Saves me from having to rent additional boxes.

Why go with a TV when you could have a projector for a pretty low price and get a much nicer picture, if you have complete light control. Here is what I would suggest:

JVC DLX NX9
Panamorph Paladin DC Anamorphic lens
Stewart Filmscreen 144" vertical masking variable masking screen
Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus for the front
Bowers & Wilkins CT800 for the center, rear, and sides (concealed - you may have to do some drywall work).
1 Mcintosh audio MC2KW for each channel you have
MBL Noble Line N11 preamplifier
Bryston BIT 20 power conditioner

Get a row of theater seats and you are set. It'll run you a little more than $500 (unless you find a great deal) but it'll also give you a much better and bigger picture than any best buy tv. Also, get a record player and some vinyl records. Thank me later.

I bought a TCL for guest room, because it was a rarely used room and was cheap and had Roku built in. We wound up liking it so much I’ve bought 3 more, and replaced 2 Samsung’s that were still working with TCL’s. I love the Roku being built in, and only have the power cable to hide (we stream our live TV). The picture is great, and they’re insanely cheap. I recently bought a 4K 55” TCL for $248.

My advice to the original poster - go buy a big TCL, and use the $600-800 you’ll save versus a Samsung and buy a good surround sound or take your wife on a weekend trip or something. You won’t regret it.

That's essentially what happened to me. Bought one for the guest room, loved it, then transitioned the other rooms to TCL. Only problem I've had is one of the remotes died and I replaced it with one off Amazon for $7.

Have a 1 year old Samsung series 9, 75 inch. Great TV. Also have an LG 65", close to the quality of the Samsung, but better sound. It was bought year and a half ago.

As long as you don't buy the most current model, you should be able to get a really good one for 700 to 1000.

Just got a Samsung 4K QLED 75 inch with a Samsung sound bar to replace my old Samsung 55 in that I had for forever. Nice upgrade for my birthday this year. Also got the rear speakers to go with the sound bar. Not bad set up for not really having a theater room. I recommend the Samsung qled though. They are decently priced at sams.

Then don't overlook VIZIO

Picked one up at Walmart about 11 mo ago.

50 inch SMART tv, Looked all of the above TV brands side by side and really like the PIC.
The number of HDMI inputs was important to me, 3 in this case.
Chrome Cast, and Aiplay,.

About $330. in store, looked on internet site, was just under $300. Bought it,

Went back to the store, a bit later, picked it. My last TV was about a $1,000.

I have surround sound, so that was not an issue to me.(don't really use it much anyway)

Sam 's Club usually has a good selection also.

Put me down as sold on LG. I think Samsung dominates the market but is overrated.

and you’re not wrong. There was a sticky thread on one of the Reddit forums about Samsung, and how a lot of models were trash and had issues. I’ve always been a Samsung guy, so it was eye opening. I don’t think that applied to all of their sets, but definitely some. Can’t find the thread now...

again, I’d recommend checking out RTINGS.COM

I know this is above your budget, but you get what you pay for....

https://www.cnet.com/reviews/lg-oled65b8pua-review/

LG's OLED tv's quality is unsurpassed with the exception of Sony. Slight lead there for Sony, but not worth the additional investment imho....

OLED gives you a true black, something that no other product can deliver.

I purchased mine from Abe's. Took al little while to get it to Texas, but it was worth the wait and more...

I prefer the Samsungs or LGs. I've had major issues with both Sony and TCL. You can get a quality picture with any of those. It's the dependability with Samsung/LG I prefer. But if you go cheap, go TCL.

Yep, they’re also super light so you can buy a 32” 4K LED for like $128, and stick one or two of them in the closet and pull them out on Saturday’s to have other games on while your primary game is on the big TV. All you need is good internet and a power outlet. It’s really nice to be able to keep up with other games of interest, without flipping back and forth from the State game (or OM in my case).

You could actually go buy a 65” TCL, and add two 32” or 40” TCL’s to go with it, and still have enough leftover to buy a decent sound bar and subwoofer, and come in under budget.

I've read that OLED doesn't do well in bright rooms with light from windows. Better in dark rooms. Led's supposedly better in brightish environments. What has been your experience or any opinion?

Nothing much to add to the above, except don’t fall for the “8K” marketing trap. Absolutely nobody can tell the difference between an 8K and a 4K, nor will they ever be able to because 4K is pretty much the limit of what the human eye can detect from a resolution standpoint. I suspect that 8K will eventually become industry standard just to give manufacturers an excuse to charge a little more, but 4K would be fine for the next 1000 years as an upper limit for TV resolution.
