Two of the three are confusing af. Lawson? Whatever. He hasn’t contributed and was a Moorhead guy. Leach signed both Shavers and Stewart. Stewart was talked very highly of by our beat guys and even thought he could contribute soon. But 17ing Shavers was playing. He wasn’t doing much, but ****.

Won't be the last. Won't be the last starter either. Going to lose at least one more starter and several more players.

From a numbers standpoint - how do you replace the players leaving? I thought we can only sign max of 25. Are you able to count people leaving and sign more than 25?

My guess is there is some accountability now in the program. Moorhead was a players coach (see Schrader/Gay fight) and wouldn't suspend anyone. We just might have to grin and bear it this season and possibly next. And if Leach still sucks in year 3, we move on.

We can sign 27 I believe. We have the hard scholarship limit of 83 for next season, so this will allow us to be at that number. I still expect to lose 1 more "malcontent" before next week.

So what is the deal here? Is Leach cleaning house or are the rats leaving the sinking ship? or both?

Enforcing his drug rules. Failed drug tests = gone. Also some malcontents out there. The boundaries have been set. Needed to be done. Moorhead and a couple years of don't give a **** Dan has to be corrected.

Well...If thats the case I can tell you from a personal experience about 4 or 5 more starts that’ll be off the team soon

Yep. I said when we hired Leach we could expect to lose 20 players the first year and that would be a good thing. Lot of folks didn't believe me, but it's looking like I was right about that. I almost never worry about players leaving the program. You're usually better off without them.

The more of this that happens the woollier for the future I get. This is becoming more and more like Saban's first year at Alabama.

We'll have some seniors return won't we? No one's losing a year of eligibility. I don't think we have a huge senior class anyway but we could probably have a dozen or so return.

This. I just hope you Cigar Boys don't run Leach off beforehand. 4 years. 4. Long. Years. But we may have something we can all enjoy on the other side.

I believe Leach has said he has two hard and fast rules. No drugs and don’t hit a woman. Do either of those two things and you’re gone. No second chances. It going to take some getting used to, but we’ll be better for it. You really couldn’t have two more opposite guys on the discipline spectrum than Moorhead and Leach.

Snippet from an article in The Seattle Times when Leach was hired at WSU.

"Eventually, Moos (WSU AD) brought up WSU’s new drug policy, particularly as it involved marijuana.

“We have a strict drug-testing plan: Three strikes and you’re out.”
Leach thought for a moment.
“What do you think about one strike and you’re out?”
Moos was all ears.

“I find that stuff divides the locker room,” Leach explained. “I’ll probably have to cut a couple starters, but the message will get across.”
Also mentioned this same policy in 'SYS' while at TTU. This is just one small step in fixing the massive culture problem Joe left us with. Leach is going to get this program turned around and where we want it to be eventually.

Because I don't remember details of Saban's first year, I'm genuinely asking.

What makes this similar to Saban's first year but not Croom's first year?

Ive asked this question about Ole Miss transfers before, and my understanding is that transfers count towards your yearly total of 25. But, I’ve also heard conflicting things on that. It’s so damn confusing.

What will be interesting will be how the NCAA counts seniors transferring because of their extra year of eligibility. They’ve already ruled they won’t count against the 85 number for their team. But what if they transfer? Do they count then? And if no, do they count towards the 25 number? That ruling could potentially make some marginal players more valuable, because you could add depth and experience at a position without it hurting your numbers.

frankly, everyone remembers Saban's first year because it's *not common* for things to happen like they did at Alabama.

Usually, you see the improvement (even if it's not reflected in the record) immediately.

^^This. And legal or not, Leach made a rule about it so they can either follow the rule or leave. You're either in all the way or not at all, none of this half *** crap that has been allowed to go on for the past few years

Don't know about drugs and other "cultural" things during Saban's first year, but Croom beat him, I think in Tuscaloosa. So he must've had a really bad year.

It's possible. There might only be 20 on the team, but eventually players will get the message. They lose more than just playing football; they also lose a full scholarship, full room and board (and the food's not the cheap stuff mortals pay for in the cafeteria), and soon might even be paid. They'll be losing a lot simply by failing a drug test.
