I wish we could swap Leach for Malzahn. Talk about a perfect offense for the players we typically recruit. Come on Ty Keyes.

Freeze would, unfortunately, do very well at Auburn.

We could all join forces to get Steve to make him his personal obsession again, I guess?! I mean, after all, 17 Auburn

I still think Sankey has a freeze on Freeze hires. They are going to get Billy Napier before South Carolina gets the chance.

I think AU pulls another pine box move and lays track for the Lane Train. Wonder if the SEC has a no Art Briles rule.

I’ve heard multiple reporters/journalists whatever you want to call them, say that they’ve heard from pretty high sources within the SEC that Sankey will block any attempt by an SEC school to hire Freeze. Who knows how true that is, but I’ve heard it from multiple people.

If Ole Miss were to beat Auburn this weekend, do y’all think Malzahn is around to coach the State game?

He blocked Saban from hiring him a few years ago. Question is if this is a unofficial lifetime ban or if he'd be OK with a school hiring him now. I think Malzahn gets another year though.

Mmm it’s closer than you think. MUlLeN is 3-3 against him. People can’t keep saying mUlLeN is a better coach than so and so and yet he doesn’t have a winning record against them. People think he’s a better coach than Kirby also and yet he’s 0-3 with 2 *** whippings.

If you split with a coach at Auburn while coaching at MSU, there's a pretty strong argument that you are a better coach than them. I'm not sure that's entirely true. Auburn's boosters and approach to recruiting brings some real problems that have to be managed, and maybe that offsets most of the advantages they would otherwise have, or at least makes for a volatile situation with higher highs and lower lows than a coach might otherwise have. But it looks like Malzahn is as good or better of an ingame coach but that Mullen is a better coach overall.

I also think it's a little easier to put the message out to nix an analyst hire versus a head coach hire. Going or not going with an analyst is one thing. Getting somebody to pass on their preferred head coach is a much bigger sell, unless they just don't have that strong a preference between their primary and second head coach target. REgardless of what Sankey tries to do, I feel pretty confident that if Auburn wants to hire him, they'll tell Sankey to pound sand and dare him to do anything about it.

ETA: ON second thought, that's if the SEC has nothing on arranging escorts for recruits. Anything else Freeze did was just what everybody does in the SEC, just bolder and more reckless. If they have anything they can point to regarding arranging escorts for minors, then that would presumably be persuasive even for Auburn.

This is accurate in regards to Auburn. They are crazy and have too many meddlers. Boosters do the recruiting, not the coaches. And for whatever reason, with as much success as the Malzahn offense brought to them back in the early days, they are bound and determined to have a Alabama style running game.

Sankey can’t outright block anyone from hiring anybody. He doesn’t have that power. He can strongly discourage it, but his requests mean exactly dick if the hiring school would win less games with (fill in the blank) than they would with the candidate in question. Nobody is going to hire a worse coach because they got a strongly worded letter from the commissioner, or some other nonsense.

This is no different than the stupid as hell myth that the SEC would block schools from poaching other HC’s from within the conference. We all saw how that turned out with Mullen.
