First the disclaimers:
1. I am not attempting to make any sort of political statement...at all. These are just the numbers.
2. All numbers are from the MS Dept of Health website and county population data pulled from the internet. They're the best numbers I have to work with.
3. These numbers are not to downplay or overplay the severity of the virus. They're just the numbers.
4. I wear my mask any time I am not at home and take a cocktail of immune boosting supplements to help avoid me catching it so I do take this seriously as I have more than one comorbidity and I am around others that have even more than I do.

That said, here are the latest numbers.

% of MS residents that either have or have had CVOID: 3.72%
% of those 3.72% that have died as a result: 2.88%
% of state residents that have either never had COVID or had it and recovered: 99.89%

Even though numbers are up, Mississippi has one of the better Rt (effective reproduction numbers) in the country. Let’s hope it stays that way. The mask mandate should be statewide (and should have never been lifted) This county by county decision making on masks is silly.

I don't get the timing of the mask thing... All summer when it's hard to transmit cold viruses and if you do, the outcomes are much better... Mask Mandates.

Now that cold and flu season is on the horizon, it's optional. That doesn't make sense. About as smart as the Big 10 waiting until it gets good and cold before starting their football season.

It was always going to get worse in the winter. It's a cold, not a hot.

For what it's worth, this article was interesting reading this morning...

Rural white communities in Mississippi aren’t taking the necessary precautions to avoid spreading the virus.“I think big parts of the white community, especially in areas that maybe weren’t as hard affected [this summer], have not been as compliant.”https://t.co/hA0YQAVjMs— The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) October 20, 2020

That said, here are the latest numbers.

% of MS residents that either have or have had CVOID: 3.72% This is positive tests as a percent of population. Who knows how many people have had it and not get tested. Asymptomatic or otherwise. My wife, son, and daughter had this in February & March before anyone really knew what was going on. Who knows about me and my other children?
% of those 3.72% that have died as a result: 2.88% 3202(deaths in MS) divided by 2,975,000(MS population) = .001
% of state residents that have either never had COVID or had it and recovered: 99.89% Completely erroneous percentage. No way to know the number who have had it or never had it.

All this is getting ridiculous! 31 deaths reported today...only to read that 22 were between 08/06/2020 and 10/18/2020. 72 days! Another 9 between 09/18/2020 and 10/10/2020. So misleading!

My doctor recommends a supplement called Quercetin (available from local stores and Amazon), along with Vitamin C, D3, and zinc.

I haven’t even read that but I can tell you that’s a ridiculous bs article. Go in any nightclub in Jackson MS where the target demo is AA. There are zero mask. Trying to make this a racial deal is 17ed up. Can you imagine the article if you wrote about all these BLM and women’s marches being a cause for any Covid spikes? 17 no because that doesn’t fit there agenda. 17 that stupid article and I will not give those pos’s a click.

Masks should not only help Covid, but the annual flu too.

The mask mandates should continue until the Covid vaccine is available (which, according to what I just saw on the news, could be as soon as early- to mid-November).

The mandate is statewide in Alabama through some time in November, but it's not really enforced. A large majority of people are complying though from what I can tell.

The picture they used in the Tweet doesn't look like "rural Mississippi". Wherever it is, they're right about the white folks not wearing a mask. I think the black chick on the left is.

Their English isn't all that great ("hard affected") either. At least they said "affected" and not "effected".

I'm similar to that.
In May, my endocrinologist adjusted me to:
C - 4000mg (1000mg 4x a day)
Zinc - 50mg ( 1x a day)
D - 5000iu (1x a day)
Magnesium - 300mg (1x a day) He explained this helps the body utilize C and Zinc more efficiently.

I recently asked him about Famitodine and Antihistamine. He said he was fine if a patient incorporated them but he had not seen enough evidence to officially include as part of a standard protocol.

My Brother and Brother in Law both have Covid right now.. Both work at same tire factory but different shifts... The factory has a mandatory mask requirement...even their break room has “cubicles” for each employee to eat at.

The author of that article has continued to

put as much negativity and fear-mongering in her articles as possible. She wrote about how coroners were scared of the dead a few months back. How school reopenings were a shitshow (yes actually used that word in the article) back in August, even though I believe reopenings went very well considering. I don’t know how someone can desire to bring that much negativity into everyone’s lives on a regular basis.

Of course he hasn't. Every cold and virus anyone caught in December or January was Covid-19 if you ask them. But it wasn't even in Mississippi at that time, although it probably had a limited presence in a few larger cities that have significant International travel.

That's a lot of C. My doc said 1000/day. I'm the same on zinc, but I think only 1000 D3. No magnesium.

Can you take too much C?

I swear the mask thing has become a religion for some. Now we have to wear them for the seasonal flu as well?

Like religion, there is a lot of “I believe” rhetoric. The difference in trying to prove religion and the efficacy of masks, is we have 6 months real world data to use.I know there is a human element involved with regards to compliance, but I severely doubt in the south as an a example, that you are seeing that huge of a difference between southern states that have mandates.

If you were looking for evidence to back up your case that masks do what the Covidians suggest, then you would expect where they are mandated, would be doing better than the evil states like Georgia and Florida that have no mandate. The thing is, they aren’t doing better.

Click on the link below from the CDC. You can then select population adjusted to make things equal. Start comparing Alabama, Wisconsin, Illinois, South Carolina or any other state that has a similar level or opening and the numbers do not in any way support the argument.
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#compare-trends_newcases

You can look at Italy, Spain, the UK and see the same thing. Adjusting for population, those places have as many or more cases than we do at the moment.

I don’t think it is the case, but considering some of these places still have tighter restrictions than Georgia and especially Florida, there would be more supporting evidence that they are having an opposite effect.

Masks help reduce the caseload and spread. I’m not going to write 10 paragraphs about it and I don’t understand why people are so adamantly against a mask when it’s 17ing simple to put on and wear and actually does some good.

Sorry I pissed on your parade but those are the numbers and I told you my sources. And that 99.89% is correct. If you haven't died from Covid then you either recovered or never had it. Dividing the deaths by state pop gives a death rate of 0.11% or 99.89% have either recovered or never had it.

Captain Ron, you just don’t get it.
The mask makes me feel safer so I can continue to not actually do anything to improve my health, such as diet and exercise, but still allows me to do the fun things I want too, such as eating at restaurants and attending high school football games. I’m not really concerned about the virus, or else I’d stay home and only leave for essential activities. If I get sick while wearing a mask in public, except while seated at the restaurant, I can continue to not take responsibility for my own health and blame you non-mask wearers. Don’t ask me if I wore a mask during past flu seasons or if i will continue to wear one until there are no covid cases left in the world. Those are not fair questions.**

I think part of the Spike is the availability of the Quick Test... my little hottie nurse practitioner just started offering the Quickie test a couple of weeks ago... you can drive up, call the number on the door, get your Quickie Test and get results back in 15 minutes.

This. I have a hard time understanding how some people can be so mentally fragile that they pitch a full-blown hissy fit about wearing a mask for a short period of time.

Maybe society should start segregating non-mask wearers from mask wearers. Like have mask wearer only restaurants, churches, etc. **

Yep. I really think you should wear a “tin foil hat” to protect against cosmic rays. Remember, it is only a piece of tin foil, what is the big deal? I can’t find examples of states that have less cosmic ray brain damage where the hat is worn, but it sure makes sense that they would deflect them right?******

I joke of course and I DO wear the mask where required, I am just not seeing the data to back it up the religious aspect of the argument.

Haven’t been in any night clubs lately, but anecdotally, it appears that the African American community is taking the mask requirements more seriously.

Not saying the article isn’t crap, or that’s a good or bad thing, just my limited observations. Makes sense they would take it more seriously as there was a decent amount of emphasis early on about it being more severe for African Americans, although I don’t think I ever saw anybody make a case they were actually more susceptible versus having higher rates of comorbidities.

My sister took part in a vaccine trial about 4-months ago. She had to get tested like every other day to make sure she didn’t test positive while she was in the trial so she’s never had it.

She gave blood last week and tested positive for the antibodies...

Ain't this the truth. Screw masks, those things suck. They also need to quit going to get tested every time they sneeze.
